It’s so moving to watch and hear a group of young musicians who have the maturity and intuition to understand what Mahler was saying. Too often, much more seasoned musicians seem miss the point.
When I hear this brilliant performance by an orchestra of such fine young accomplished musicians, I really believe there is hope for this terrible old world.
This is actually the best performance of Mahler 9 that I've ever heard; and I've heard many in my time. And this from a youth orchestra! Wonderful! I have never heard the dynamics so well brought out - vital in any interpretation of a Mahler symphony, but especially this one. Great direction. This is the way Mahler should be played. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart!
Holy Cow! I've heard a lot of Mahler in my 60 years, but I've never heard the 9th like this. These young people play with an authority, confidence and sure virtuosity that is unbelievable! And it's not just a slap dash interpretaiton , it is truly amazing! I am new to this orchestra - can someone enlighten me? I am VERY impressed.
Dear Paul, thank you for your message. The Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester is an European youth orchestra founded by Claudio Abbado 30 years ago.. you can find more infos on www.gmjo.at/ Every year the orchestra meets twice in the easter and summer to make tours in all Europe with international soloists or conductors from around the world. I hope it's a bit more clear for you :)
That one minute at the end was so incredibly powerful. He stood there, giving his heart in the performance. And at the end, he finally gave his heart over to Mahler. Brava
Wow! This crew has done one of my favorite pieces of music some SERIOUS justice!! Tempo and dynamics (among other things) are absolutely outstanding! Much BRAVO!
When you're as ancient as me, you marvel at how you go through your understanding and appreciation over the years. I started with Mahler 1 and 4 over 50 years ago and more recently got into 2 & 3. For the past few months I've been playing the 9th again and again but find dear old Claudio a bit too 'dramatised' if you know what I mean. To see and hear kids like this, just inspires me beyond any more words. Thanks.
It is awesome to see such a young group of performers playing their hearts out on a truly difficult symphony. The conductor is remarkable in his interpretation and guidance of the orchestra. I've never heard the second movement played with such dynamics. I've always felt the movement should be a farce and calamity of a dance scherzo. Some orchestras get the extreme sarcasm in it.They managed it greatly. The Adagio final...I wept. nuff said.
L'énergie de la jeunesse et une direction scrupuleuse font merveille dans ce chef-d'oeuvre, et l'oriente vers l'amour de la vie, souligné par Berg dans son fameux commentaire.
why some ppl come this far and click dislike button, disliking a video means this video insults you somehow...is it really?... whether you dont like the performance or quality of the sound, picture; click LIKE button and write a COMMENT...you IDIOTS!...erm..i couldn't help myself..sorry..i really dont get those ppl and i dont think i will be able to do in the near future.
Extending upon some of the rather insightful observations raised Mr. de Silva, I thought the Dm7 suspension leading into the second movement, counterpointed by the brass section's C modulative recapitulation of the motif produced a profound and moving post-renaissance timbre. Bravo, Gustav
sorry of course they played very well but it is spoiled when video directors, or whoever it is that started this trend, get orchestra members to do cute smiles on cue at each other during the performance. it really insults the music

This is right at the top of human accomplishments.

BRAVO !!! I've heard a LOT of 9's in my time, and I'll tell you straight, this is up there. Excellent young musicians. Excellent musicians period.
Excellent job by Phillipe Jordan and the Mahler Youth Orchestra. He also directs them brilliantly in a rendering of Shostakovich's 5th.
Many bells up to Mahler!!! Beautiful horn section on the Adagio!
That one minute at the end was so incredibly powerful. He stood there, giving his heart in the performance. And at the end, he finally gave his heart over to Mahler. Brava
This is the music that sustains my life, Thank you for posting, Wonderful performance by beautiful young people.
Perhaps the best performance I've ever heard. Outstanding!!!
I know more than 12 versions of this symphony, specially the first mov, but I did not see any like this, no words to descrive.
Just wonderful! I'm really amazed of this performance!
Cela libère l esprit

Oh is this really a youth orchestra?
We still have hope mate
Brilliant!
Großartig!
Jordan is a god!!
Beginning (03:33)
A proper entrance by concertmaster leading great start.
I think i saw that girl to the right of the oboist playing with the Berlin Phil. 04:35
conductor and concert master are great! Ok, who´s not great in that orchestra...
It is a great performance, but I'm sorry that the timing of applause is too early. They should have waited for the conductor's action...

Bless these kids, they're the true aristocracy, lost in an ocean of mediocrity. A last hope for the world.
Fantastic performance, but... that horrible comercial banner "Young Euro Classic"!
sorry
of course they played very well
