Thank you Canadians for your support during this series! I never expected these vids would be so well-received. I had a great time in Toronto and really felt at home there, I'll definitely be back!
You missed Toronto's best food this time around, it's all about the ethnic food here, our Chinese, Korean, Thai, Vietnamese, Indian, Middle Eastern foods are all top notch. Make sure to remedy that next time.
Just take any criticism as constructive. I really enjoyed your videos. I may even check out the CN Tower restaurant and I've lived in the Golden Horseshoe for 45 years.
Your reaction to the guy using his bare hands was pretty strange. Chefs use their bare hands all the time and if they wash their hands and there’s nothing wrong with that. Gloves really aren’t that sanitary anyway unless they’re changed constantly. It’s only fairly recently with the younger generations that people started having this expectation that people handling food wear gloves. It’s pretty irrational as there’s nothing inherently unsafe about the practice. Most sushi chefs don’t wear gloves and the food they serve you is uncooked.
in most videos and korean they always do they dont want the food on their hands handling meat it wouldnt make a good video they wash their hands and take a crap you must use gloves in public preparation they are making hundreds of meals
Bro if you are worried about people touching your food with the bare hands dont eat out ever again xD It happens all the time. Also workers who frequently wash their hands often is much more sanitary than someone who wears gloves and uses them improperly. (Most people). Not eating the poutine for that reason was just insane lol.
EXACTLY. As long as the worker washed their hands before preparing food, it's totally fine. NO chef in a kitchen wears gloves while prepping/cooking food.
A tip for the public. Employees where gloves because they don't want to get their hands dirty, not to protect your food. Those gloves probably have been on for TIME and are dirty.
@@Traplordsosa wearing glove is probably a a bigger cause for cross contamination than anything else. The never wash their gloved hands so the gloves can act like a cutting board that is constantly switching food types without washing.
Don’t tell me you missed the whole bottom floor ? 🤦♂️ It’s just as big as the top floor with so many more food places and other cool spots to check out
I guarantee they weren't wearing gloves in the steakhouses either. Recent studies show that frequently washed bare hands are less germy than gloves. The bright side: most Canadians, especially cooks, wash their hands frequently.
You are right that bare hands are totally fine if they are being washed. After all this is how we all cook at home. If this is common in Canada and they have frequent hand-washing procedures then perhaps I overreacted
@ trying to backpedal on truth, is unbecoming of you. Let’s be a little transparent here shall we? You can thoroughly scrub your hands with the most popular cleanser and fail to prevent passing on harmful bacteria! Try the ole UV light test.
You missed an entire floor of the market with many more food options -- one floor down from the main floor there are 38 vendors. Among the options downstairs: * The better sandwich place at the market, Uno Mustachio, which makes a killer breaded veal sandwich. * Eateries that sell Greek, Chinese, Ukranian, Latin American, Japanese and French meals. * Bakeries, a creperie, places that specializes in cavier or sushi, and several bakeries and desert places, as well as a coffee bar and juice bar. There's also a north building that is open this time a year on Sundays with about 20-25 vendors. Kettleman's is an Ottawa institution that branch out from its original location with more locations across that capital city plus in a few other cities like Toronto. As a native New Yorker myself who goes often to Montreal and now lives in Canada, there is no need to toast Montreal bagels so long as you select those that are still hot/warm out of the fire-burning -- which you should always do because they are their best when still hot warm with the best flavor, smells and texture. Always ask what just out of the oven and still warm.
You’d better do some homework if you want to be taken seriously as a food blogger. You missed half the St. Lawrence Market while commenting about how small it is. And of course as many have commented most restaurants prepare food without gloves. And peameal bacon is pork loin while the traditional bacon were all used to is pork belly
Not sure I'd want UA to be a "serious food blogger". Half of why his content is fun is because of the unpolished honest natural reactions he gives. When people start doing their homework they tend to get taken in by all the hype and go into the review with rose tinted glasses.
Mann... You really didn't come through here. I love your videos and watch them all, but I've spent a bunch of time in Toronto an have to say this was disappointing. The lower level of the St. Lawrence is HUGE and you presented it like the top floor was all that existed. Also, the glove commentary was just weird, as there is zero hygiene issues with properly washed hands.
There are no English muffins in England. There is no Canadian bacon in Canada! Peameal bacon is cured pork loin developed to preserve pork mainly in Ontario in world war 1. It was originally rolled in ground peameal, hence the name! I make my own here in Florida and it’s as good as any I’ve ever enjoyed!!
I guess I was just surprised to see it at a poutine takeout spot. Like imagine ordering a salad at Sweetgreen and seeing the person grabbing everything with their bare hands. It's probably fine but it's weird right?
Thanks UA for another fun Video. Out of all of the food items that you tried today, the pizza bagel with the caramelized cheese looked the most tasty, hands down! And it was probably the cheapest! Thanks again, Cheers!
There's a downstairs to the St. Lawrence Market. Good Italian sandwich place down there. The North Market (Farmer's Market) across from the St. Lawrence will open soon on weekends and possibly weekdays as well. You need to go to Church St. for all the Halloween festivities and costume parade in Toronto.
I think you are probably right, but if you see it happening right in front of you in a setting where you wouldn't expect it, wouldn't it give you pause? Like if you go to McDonald's and see someone just grabbing fries with their bare hands and stuffing them in the boxes, would you eat those fries?
At paddingtons, you can get additional toppings like onions and marmalade which i think really enhance the sandwich so i prefer their peameal sandwich more.
Former dishie here! I was often pressured to sort frozen fries into portions in moments when the pit was slow. No gloves or washing hands needed... Maybe the fryer kills germs/removes product residue? A busy diner will always prioritize haste over safety. This was the most famed diner in the Capital of Canada.
As other comment…the basement has the Italian sandwich place and a Greek place with crazy good roast pork sandwich. Food handling, if the hands are clean then all good. Never seen a sushi chef with gloves. Glad you came to check out the food scene. Missed Markham for Chinese though.
Oh bro seems you missed the entire lower level and the awesome veal sandwich or equally awesome eggplant sandwich if you dont like veal. Or the loaded veal sandwich at california sandich on claremount street. Id check the steak at STOCk too Great videos thanks for visiting!
Glad you are enjoying yourself in Canada. We Canadians are proud of our Montreal Style bagels, back bacon on a bun, and poutine, and Canadian whiskey. And Pemmican, which is not as well known. And of course our ice hockey. Have a safe trip home and come back to Canada anytime.
Interesting to see a more "regular" day on the ground. Another good video! How are you deciding on the destination videos? Have any other places planned? I'm voting for Austin! Get some of that brisket and migas tacos!
UA thanks for coming to Toronto you are the man! A lot of the best foods are located in the outskirts of the city. You can check out North America's largest Chinese Mall in Markham called Pacific Mall with a really cool food court. Markham has hands down the best Chinese food in Ontario. Scarborough is another incredible area for food better prices too and has very unique foods you might have never seen before.
You should come back to Toronto! There’s so much more to see and eat. Toronto is an interesting place because, honestly, a lot of the food here is mid-tier and underwhelming. The city doesn’t have many OG original foods either (peameal bacon sandwiches are one, but even then, they’re not as widespread here as something like pork rolls or pizza slices in the U.S.; it should be in every store here as a quick food option). There are lots of adopted foods here; which is fine. I’m surprised you didn’t check out Kensington Market! It’s right next to downtown and is a foodie mecca with tons of interesting options. It’s also a unique spot-there’s really nothing else like it in North America. Overall, Toronto definitely needs more than one visit. For example, Scarborough, an eastern borough, is a whole food adventure in itself. You can find literally any type of cuisine there, from just about any country, and there are hidden gems serving top-tier ethnic food. The suburbs north and northwest of the city also have amazing options, with heavy Latino, Spanish, South Asian, and East and SE Asian choices.
Peameal bacon on a bun was a staple at my hockey rink when I was a kid. During tournaments or games on the weekend, they'd set up a huge grill and barbecue endless pounds of it.
A million people have probably commented the same thing, but you should know that in most people use gloves improperly and as long as employees keep washing their hands it is way more hygienic than gloves! You really missed out on the food man! The health code is that single use gloves are alright, but not necessary if you have properly washed your hands!
I have enjoyed your videos for over 2 years. But I'm so disappointed with your Toronto reviews. Carousel bakery and Barberian's?! That's the best you can do?! Dig a little deeper. Toronto has a very rich and diverse food scene!!! Don't visit all the tourist traps...

Yup every squirrel in Toronto is jet black, we have A LOT of them. In fact, black squirrels are uncommon or rare in the United States. I saw one black squirrel in Central Park when I visited NYC in June.
UA - thanks, another great video making "the six" folks happy. Totally understand the bagel you had in the morning went in a very hot oven, but I am pretty sure the bagel chef had bare hands as well. Love your videos, please keep it up.
Thanks! I want to clarify that bare hands for food that is going to be cooked does not bother me. Bare hands also don't bother me in general if they are being washed. If that's happening consistently in Canada then perhaps I overreacted
Pancer's Deli makes the best pastrami in Toronto. Gryfe's bagels makes the best bagels. Bagel World is a close second. Best food in Toronto is at Govinda's inside the Hari Krishna temple.Irie Veggie Takeout in Little Jamaica is top notch. Best pizza is at Il Paesano
😂🤣 naturally, i cried laughing when UA said he wasn't going to eat the Poutine. The way he said it was hilarious imo. #1. The pizza bagel looked awesome. #2. Canadian Bacon IS awesome. Hence, why i love Mc D's egg McMuffin.
I've worked in several kitchens and nobody ever wore gloves. People wash there hands frequently and it isn't any dirtier than using gloves once you start touching stuff. People can pick their noses with or without gloves if that's what you are worried about.
Regarding the price, you have to consider that a Big Mac in Toronto costs about $7.59, so this peameal sandwich is really only $0.80 more. When you look at it this way, it's really not expensive for what you're getting. Peameal bacon, or Canadian bacon, is actually made from the pork loin, as opposed to classic American strip bacon which is from the pork belly. Two entirely different cuts. Since it's from the loin, you're actually getting mostly meat, versus a high fat product like strip bacon.
Cooked food is different. I think ready-to-eat food should not be touched with bare hands. It would be like a pizza spot grabbing slices with their bare hands and serving them on plates that way
I don’t understand why you keep saying that we went to war with Canada in 1812. Canada wasn’t even a country until 1867! The war of 1812 was between the British and the United States. The British were trying to take back the United States, and they lost the war. Canada had nothing to do with it. Please get your facts straight.
Some Canadians fought during the War and repelled invasion by the US, but Canada was a British Colony and it was led by the British. Canada had no part in deciding to go to war with the US. Anyway, Britain/Canada did not win the war. It was close to a stalemate and neither side won territory.
Glad you enjoyed Toronto! I lived there for 7 years and it’s my favorite city. I wish you could have tried Parts & Labour by Matty Matheson before it closed. Great video.
@uaeats great! I know you didn't come to Toronto eat Asian food but I will say most of my friends from NYC come to Toronto specifically to eat Chinese food in Markham and Richmond Hill because they say it's better than NYC. Next time give it a try!
With regards to gloves, these places are typically pretty clean since it is a tourist area as well as a more upper end place. The hygeine is pretty good. I wouldn't say the same about maybe some random street meat, or some smaller shops. But you're an Asian guy, and if you've ever eaten Chinese BBQ, you KNOW those guys chopping the meat never wear gloves when they put the char siu on top of the rice. Sushi chefs never wear gloves and sushi isn't cooked. Many Michelin restaurants will garnish your dish without gloves. I've never seen Gordon Ramsay or Thomas Keller wear gloves. At the steakhouses when they test for doneness, a lot of the times they'll just poke the meat with their bare finger before putting it on the plate. There's a happy medium between living in a plastic bubble where you're never exposed to pathogens, and eating at a place that serves food off the floor. Besides, a little dirt is good for the immune system - you wanna be prepared for the next pandemic! lol.
Dude, love your content! Once in Montreal, and now in Toronto... Next trip to Canada, you need to head to Vancouver. Go in the spring or summer. If you go to Vancouver, go in the late spring or summer. Go to "Banana leaf" on the corner of Broadway & Oak. It's a Maylasian restaurant and is probably one of my favorite restaurants in all of Canada. Sweet Maylasian eats!
Just to set the record straight on gloves: any finished food product should NOT be handled by bare hands. Precooked food, is a different story. Whoever was handling UA's finished food should be wearing gloves. Steakhouse, etc the food is mostly handled by tongs or scoopers.
Yeah this is my opinion, though I can see in the comments many people disagree. But I think food that is ready-to-eat should not be touched with bare hands. Yes gloves are not inherently better but they are if you put on a fresh pair before handling ready-to-eat food. I think just because "it probably happens behind the scenes all the time and you don't know" should not be a reason not to be bothered if you see it
Weird reaction to someone not wearing gloves when touching cheese curds but absolutely no reaction when you saw a guy mashing his bare hands into your peameal sandwich and bagel dough. Sorry to be negative, but you really came off like a total germaphobe.
Shoot. I would have loved to have run into on your trip to my city. I hope you felt welcomed and had a great experience. You only touched the surface of our food nation. If you ever come back. Ali Roti in Parkdale. Is a must! Also Spaghetti Factory. There’s a ridiculous amount of others as well. Cheers to you!
you missed on the best spot there. Next visit Uno Mustachio! Get the godfather (breaded eggplant and breaded veal on a bun). Best veal parm sandwich around!
On you next trip back give a place called 'California Sandwiches ' a go . Excellent Breaded Veal sandwiches served thick and on crusty fresh kaiser buns. You can order it Sweet Medium or hot, a very established Italien eatery chain in Toronto.
Next time you come to Toronto I recommend trying some Jamaican patties. It's such a quinticential Toronto on the go snack. And there are some places that sell some really high quality ones all the way to lower end but still tasty ones.
Every fine dining place you have ever been has the chefs touch the food with their bare hands. If they wash frequently, which they do, it’s much more sanitary than gloves. It’s very normal.
Glad to see your bagel was nice and you actually rode a streetcar. As for the rest ya it can be like that BTW I do live in toronto. Please come back anytime. Love to have you Thomas
if you're still in Toronto go to denison centre and try bakers duck. Amazing bakery unlike you ever seen before and the prices are cheap too. Also Yans tofu in the food court has the most amazing tofu you would eat in your life. Hope you do a Vancouver tour in the future!
UA go see Badiali pizza and maybe check a souther bbq spot n a ramen place haha..id like to see what you run into here in Toronto and what you think of it
Most people have preferences as to how they want their food handled. In certain cases, these preferences can seem similar to phobias. It's not all that strange of a reaction for some to be grossed out in such a matter. These people may understand the concepts of food handling but would still prefer not having to visibly see it first hand. Out of sight, out of mind as they say. Similar to people that are grossed out by the thought of eating raw sushi or beef tartare. Enjoy your food however you wish to enjoy it.

What about the guy’s preparing the dough for your pizza? You never see them wearing gloves.
Cooked food is different. I think ready-to-eat food should not be touched with bare hands. It would be like a pizza spot grabbing slices with their bare hands and serving them on plates that way
@@uaeats I've certainly had a slice taken from a fresh pie that was taken by hand before.
I don’t understand why you keep saying that we went to war with Canada in 1812. Canada wasn’t even a country until 1867! The war of 1812 was between the British and the United States. The British were trying to take back the United States, and they lost the war. Canada had nothing to do with it. Please get your facts straight.
😂
Some Canadians fought during the War and repelled invasion by the US, but Canada was a British Colony and it was led by the British. Canada had no part in deciding to go to war with the US. Anyway, Britain/Canada did not win the war. It was close to a stalemate and neither side won territory.
And still even they didn’t exist they burned the White House and kicked your ass.
Getting temperamental over a youtuber UNWITTINGLY incorrectly reciting the facts involved in the War of 1812. How pathetic 🙄
You mad bro
Glad you enjoyed Toronto! I lived there for 7 years and it’s my favorite city. I wish you could have tried Parts & Labour by Matty Matheson before it closed. Great video.
Dude the xxx hot mustard and peameal is addictive!!!!
Stop at Apache Burger on your way to the airport. It's a legend.
Love that you came to Toronto! Hope you come back again. Next time try the lobster tower at fisherman Lobster Clubhouse north of the city
I'll definitely be back! Allergic to shellfish unfortunately so no lobster clubhouses for me
@uaeats great! I know you didn't come to Toronto eat Asian food but I will say most of my friends from NYC come to Toronto specifically to eat Chinese food in Markham and Richmond Hill because they say it's better than NYC. Next time give it a try!
I actually laughed when she asked 'do you want to add cheese's thinking it's with bare hands
Theres still velvet underground concerts? Lou reed died awhile back right? The rest of the bamd must be in their 80s...
Why didn't you go downstairs in St. Law? Missed half the building.
Dont be weird with bare hands, its more common than you think
Besides, a little dirt is good for the immune system - you wanna be prepared for the next pandemic! lol.
You went to the St. Lawrence Market and didn't get a veal/eggplant sandwich from Mustachio's? You missed out!!!
Haha, for the peameal sandwich I didn't notice at the time. For the bagel, it's being cooked! Ready-to-eat food is different
Cheers to you!
if you're still in toronto, you have to check out California Sandwiches and get their veal on a bun
you will be in heaven
they have many locations
Next time you’re in Toronto you should try Harbour 60 steakhouse!
Yes I wanted to! But it's closed temporarily right now
Thanks UA for using the title of 24 hours eating in Toronto rather than 24 hours eating in Canada. 😂
you missed on the best spot there.
You are such a whimp
Next time you come to Toronto I recommend trying some Jamaican patties. It's such a quinticential Toronto on the go snack. And there are some places that sell some really high quality ones all the way to lower end but still tasty ones.
Every fine dining place you have ever been has the chefs touch the food with their bare hands. If they wash frequently, which they do, it’s much more sanitary than gloves. It’s very normal.
There is a downstairs to the St Lawrence Market as well as another portion across the street. There are many food options
Don't obsess about the gloves. I prefer a food preparer with washed hands than a guy who's wearing the same pair of gloves all day.
I agree with this
Glad to see your bagel was nice and you actually rode a streetcar. As for the rest ya it can be like that BTW I do live in toronto. Please come back anytime. Love to have you Thomas
There is the outside market in the warmer weather at the St. Laurence market that almost triples it size.
Hope one day you get to make it to Vancouver Island Tofino Long Beach 🎉 my favourite place in the world 🥰 glad you had a fun visit! 🇨🇦
if you're still in Toronto go to denison centre and try bakers duck. Amazing bakery unlike you ever seen before and the prices are cheap too. Also Yans tofu in the food court has the most amazing tofu you would eat in your life. Hope you do a Vancouver tour in the future!
what else is on that bagel that makes it a pizza bagel and not just a heavily cheesed bagel
Damn, carousel's interaction sounded pretty rude whoever was taking the order.
It def was. How does it make sense to charge 20% more for currency worth more lol.
UA go see Badiali pizza and maybe check a souther bbq spot n a ramen place haha..id like to see what you run into here in Toronto and what you think of it
I've worked in a lot of fast food places the amount of times I've jizzed in ppl's food would blow your mind.
20% upcharge? That’s brutal
"I saw the worker grab it with their bare hands" lmao welcome to Canada, aka India
Canadians typically put cream in our coffee.
Church Street is where you’ll see all the people in Hallowe’en costumes.
All the steaks you ate the past few days were also made with bare hands :)
Haha you didn’t even check out half of St Lawrence Market. There are two sides, and a full downstairs you missed.
Looks 🌟 good😊
Most people have preferences as to how they want their food handled.
Next time you are there you need to make sure you get to Matty Matheson's burger joint, Matty's Patty's
Hopefully you tried another butter tart … a Canadian dessert
UA, for English speaking Canadians, Montreal is pronounced Muntreal, not Mawntreal.
Next time you go to Canada please go to Halifax to try donairs as well as well as all the great seafood there !
Nice review. I totally agree; the market is tiny by any standards.
Next time in Toronto, you have to try California Sandwich.
