  • Wildlife photography in a neighborhood or even in your own yard can be very appealing to those that aren't able to travel or don't have the time to get out and explore. This week I review a few things that I've done in my own yard to attract local wildlife and some of the things I regularly look for to find the wildlife that share my yard with me.
All of the content in this video comes from my current yard, a yard where I've previously lived and my sister's neighborhood yard. Wildlife is all around us, we just need to look for it.
You'll be surprised at how many animals will make your yard home if you give them the right conditions. I cover a few of those things in this weeks video. These are just some tips, please let me know what you do to attract wildlife to your yard! Thanks for watching, I hope you enjoy!

Thanks for the ideas, Jimmy. I live in a suburban area and I put some small water containers on the frontyard. I noticed that it makes a great difference, as birds would come to drink and bathe. Sometimes it is difficult to them to find fresh water both in the summer and in the winter, when everything is frozen. Here there are many stray cats, which scare the birds. So my frequent visitors are mostly sparrows and crows! I like to photograph them anyway. I'll follow your suggestions and try to provide a more friendly environment for them. Cheers!

That's great! Crows can be beautiful birds to photograph, I wish I had more in my area but they're pretty flighty around people. Have you found any ways to deter the neighborhood cats? I have the same problem, and I haven't found any way to keep them away.

@@JimmyBreitenstein No, I haven't found a way to completely deter the cats. I try to place the bird feeders in a location where the birds can perch and reach the food easily, but far from bushes or structures from where cats could ambush them. The idea is to make the cats visible when trying to catch the birds, so they fly away unharmed.

Hey. Great video. I have enjoyed your series. Common Mullein (Mull-in) is a great successional plant. Often an indicator that the environment (that may have been damaged in the past) is healing well. The leaves are really soft and are amazing to use for water-on-leaf close-ups.

Thank you so much for the information. I've already noticed a few of these coming up in the yard this spring, can't wait to see what wildlife they attract this year! Thanks again!

Excellent topic Jimmy, useful tips and ideas. The addition of a small pool/water source is a great idea.

Thanks! I'm hopeful it'll attract more animals, water already pools there when it rains, figured I'd just make it a tad bigger.

A great change of pace and some great tips, It is amazing how many different critters you can see in your backyard if you just spend some time watching for them. You are getting more followers every week and it won't be long until you hit 1000. I got my first look at one of the Great Horned Owl Owlets on Friday, both adults were at war with 4 Ravens and one of the little guys poked his head up, I got some good shots of both adults. Tomorrow I am going to go photograph the Eagles nest, at least one has hatched and I think the other will have hatched by the time I get there. The Owl shots are posted and I should have some Eagle images up by tomorrow night. Have a good week and I look forward to next Sundays video.

Yes, there's so much wildlife around, we just have to spend the time to find it! That's awesome with the owls. I have yet to see any chicks on the nest I'm watching. The female has been sitting different the last few days, so I'm hoping to see some little ones soon. I'll keep an eye on your flickr for those eagles, that sounds so cool!

Great stuff Jimmy! I've doing some of the same things in my yard. I mostly do for birds, because my German Shepherd won't allow other creatures in the yard. Thanks for sharing!
