My 2000 4 Runner SR5 4WD was the best vehicle I had owned to date. Now my son has it with over 300k miles. It still starts and runs like new. Every time I see yours in these older videos, I am reminded...
Great video, I was really worried about putting the awning up on my own but this has made me feel a lot more comfortable with it. Thanks Jimmy the Mower
Now if I can just figure how to mount it on my bug out moto van (chevy express) without interfering with my solar panels and without drilling into the roof I'll get one of these awnings. Need to do some more research.
That sounds like an awesome setup. I'd maybe look into the awning mounts available from Rhino Rack. You might need to drill one extra hole into the mount (not the van) to fit this ARB awning, but they have a few options for mounting to the car.
Look great, I did diy 100% since I am a xnavy and my dad was in Forien Legend Special Forces, the one I made can be stored away in second and assemble the same. Cost my $75 to make. And looks the same but does not have side poles. I am cheap have to be these days.
1:39 ... you edited out the wrestling match with the side supports while holding up the awning making it look easier than it actually is ;) how do I know ? ... i have the 2500 ... been there too ..
hey how do you like the awning that you have in this video ? i'm looking to buy one for my new canopy/roof rack . not sure the size yet, but i'm looking around. any pros and cons or suggestions about this product ?
+steedsful I love it. I definitely recommend the 2000 version, not the 2500, unless you drive a Ford Excursion or something like that. I wouldn't want it much bigger than this. Good build quality, serves its purpose, and surprisingly sturdy if you have the guy wires staked.
+Nick Carver hey thanks. Yeah I just picked up a f150 and bought a canopy with a roof rack. I was considering the 2000/2500. I felt the 2500 would be nice for a 8x8 space if it's raining. But yes the 2000model was cheaper and smaller. Hmmmm
Thanks, just got this based on your review and I'm so annoyed (not with you) I didn't realize it didn't come with mounts. Will order the Rhino ones now. Gobi charges 100 bucks for their mounts!
Yeah it's a bummer they don't come with mounts. Both the Gobi mounts and the Rhino rack mounts are solid. I had to drill a second hole in the Rhino rack mount, though, because the ARB mounting points are closer together. Easy to do.
Ah okay. I just picked up an '02 4R myself and am looking at what I want to do for a lift. 5100s and OME springs is probably the route I will go as well.
Set it up in fairly windy conditions?! you must be kidding! i just did it for the first time after watching your video and already a bit of wind made it rather hard and scary indeed! Wonder if ARB paid you some money for the advertisement ;). Just kidding. I wouldn't leave it up over night here in the southwest in a real windy situation! NO way!!!!!
Nice video Nick! I have this awning on my Scout Trailer and I have put it out a few times and struggled each time so far! DUH! I hit YT and found your video! Great instruction. Looks like my next time to use it will be much smoother! Thanks, Happy trails! IG @JLmaximus19

Great video! Quick and to the point with great audio and visuals.
Jonathan Mitchell Thank you, sir!

That's pretty awesome. I need to look into one of these for my rig. Would be really handy out by the Salton Sea.
Eric Bryan Yeah, man. They really make desert travel a lot more comfortable.

***** Thanks for the info!
Excellent video Nick. My ARB 2500 is due in today.
It does require some practice and it's only a breeze to setup as one person without a breeze!
great review!
Well done, to the point and good video/audio quality. Now I need to practice.

Easy to follow.
very nice, you should also check out the bugsoc car door window screen.
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks for the tip.
1:39 ... you edited out the wrestling match with the side supports while holding up the awning making it look easier than it actually is ;) how do I know ? ... i have the 2500 ... been there too ..
Haha. I can only imagine how much more difficult it is on the 2500.
@@nickcarverphoto any tricks with that? I have the same issue and that's why I watched this video
Nice vid. Thanks you helped me decide. I’ll get a Fiamma.
It looks like the enclosed room isn't sealed at the top possibly allowing bugs to get in. Is that right? Thanks.
My poles always slide out of the holes. Is there a pin or cap that will prevent this?
Great video man!
do you have a part number for both awning and room? for 6.5 x 8.5 ft or 2000 series thanks
Do you have Gobi mounts for the ARB or is it heir factory mounts?
I have question on this old one. How did you mount it to the roof rack? Did you get the Gobi mounts?
what brackets did you use with the Gobi Stealth? Any experience with the quick release brackets?
Also, what type of basket do you have on top. I really like your setup. Thanks.
Thanks for a great review . I have been on the fence about getting one for my E250 adventure wagon. Does it mount to the rain gutters ?
The mounting is pretty simple. You can drill 4 holes into just about any support rail or bracket and bolt it on.
Haven't seen much on the ARB awning's ability to withstand the speed of the freeway. Would you know what kind of speeds you put it through?
I drove 70-75 mph on the highway with no issues. It's pretty streamlined.
Nice review, thank you
Does it come with mounting brackets or are those sold separately?
Separately.
hey how do you like the awning that you have in this video ?
i'm looking to buy one for my new canopy/roof rack .
not sure the size yet, but i'm looking around.

how does it mount to the roof rack?
I used the rhino rack brand awning mounts. They are very sturdy.

Oh man. I can't wait to screw this up.
Hey Nick, not awning related, but I was curious what you have your truck lifted with?
I actually don't have this truck anymore but it was a Sonoran Steel 7.2 lift kit which was made up of Bilstein 5100 shocks and OME springs.
Ah okay. I just picked up an '02 4R myself and am looking at what I want to do for a lift. 5100s and OME springs is probably the route I will go as well.
+Blake Nichols definitely check out the lift kits from Sonoran Steel. I also did the brake upgrade kit from them and it really helped.
hello, what brand & model# is your roof rack?
It's a Gobi Racks stealth rack for 3rd generation 4runners.
I'm interested in your truck... Do you mind telling me what your suspension set up is?
It has Bilstein 5100 shocks and Old Man Emu springs. I have since sold this truck, but I absolutely loved owning it.
Nice set-up, but....the problem is if you want to have a camp and want to leave with the car for a short trip to the liquor store.
mention price when ever you do a product review thanks
What roof rack is that?
You can see in the very first shot of the video, it says GOBI on the front
$1600.... They can keep it
How does it attach to the vehicle?
Set it up in fairly windy conditions?! you must be kidding! i just did it for the first time after watching your video and already a bit of wind made it rather hard and scary indeed! Wonder if ARB paid you some money for the advertisement ;). Just kidding. I wouldn't leave it up over night here in the southwest in a real windy situation! NO way!!!!!
In the windy conditions you would use sandbag pole attachments to keep the legs from moving.
Look at this girlman with his girly little gas cans.
Haha - shut up, Austin. I'll have you know every one of these cans broke by the end of this trip.
Everything ARB makes is bitchin' ...and expensive.
