    In this video, I included information about how to get there, what pass you should get, and what to know upon traveling in Nikko. I hope you enjoy this video and it will make your trip to Nikko in the future easier.

    FAQ:
    1. When this video was taken? : The video was taken on October 21, 2022.
    2. The Nikko Pass includes limited express ? : No. It only covers fare part, so you need to purchase additional tickets for reserved seats for each way. Revaty or Spacia, Spacia X.
    3. Is it possible to go by regular Tobu train? : Possible but it takes time. You might not be able to do the same route as I did in this video. I recommend you to use limited express at least on the way to Nikko.
    4. Where can I find bus time table? : Bus Time Table : www.tobu-bus.com/en/nikko/
    First, click the bus stop name in the map. Tobu Nikko is No.2. It directed to Japanese time table, and the time with "中" is to Chuzenji Onsen. All others go to Yumoto Onsen, the last stop.
    5. JR Tokyo Wide Pass covers this route? JR Tokyo Wide Pass covers limited express from Shinjuku station to Tobu Nikko. It's joint serivce of JR and Nikko. It doens't cover limited express from Asakusa. The pass is 15000 yen and you can travel for 3 days, so it's good choice if you do 2-3 day trips from Tokyo.
    🚃 Train and Ticket Information:
    Tobu Line from Asakusa to Tobu Nikko. (non-JR) is convenient choice.
    You can also visit by JR via Utsunomiya, but it takes longer.
    You can get "Tobu Marugoto Nikko Free Pass" at the ticket machine at Asakusa station or

Nikko is a bit far for a day trip so I cannot strongly recommend to anybody who are nervous about taking trains in Japan, but it is my favorite place. Kenchan,
    I enjoy all your videos and created a dedicated folder under Playlists "Tokyo Kenchan!" When I first saw this video on Nikko I thought it might be interesting. However, your video brought back memories of vacation and business trips to Japan, the Far East, Europe and the U.S. I chuckled at your mention on making little mistakes (I have made many!) 😂 I laugh with you...not at you.
    Then the feeling of being overwhelmed when I got a glimpse of the hikers rushing off the train to get to buses. These reminded me of my own "adventures" when I traveled. There was not knowing about the underground multi-levels trains in S. Korea and lugging our bags up and out of the station. Then there was the last train I could get to visit Florence, Italy and ending up with the last night "local train"...it was a long ride. I made sure to take the express train back to Milan. It is nothing to really get upset about and I call these events "adventures" so when anyone asks about my trips I always say it was either "pleasant (uneventful) or an "ADVENTURE!". I actually remember my adventures and working things out versus calling it a "misadventure."
    So when I viewed your video I enjoyed your efforts to work around this wonderful Nikko day trip.
    I know I will have my fair share of "adventures" as I plan my upcoming visits to Japan. Train trips that will take me outside of Tokyo will be fun. Again, one of the visits (overnight) will be Wakayama to visit the Kishi (Nitama) Train Station. The train / bus ride(s) will be 5 1/2 hours. Other later trips will be to visit the Toyota Motorworks in Tahara (4 Runner) which is another long overnighter and the Seiko Watch Factory (Morioka or Ibaraki). Trip to Otake City, Hiroshima (Family) will also be planned.
    So thank you for the reminder to "Be Prepared" (Boy Scout Motto)...I know it will be an "adventure." 🙏🤙

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  Год назад +1

      WTN808 san, what an honor that you have playlist for my videos! I was on the bus in Kyoto when I read your comment, and I was smiling for a while. I'm also happy to hear that you chuckled with the scene. It was worth waking up at 5am and headed to Nikko! It's interesting to learn about your adventure in Korea and Milan. I'm impressed about your mindset that taking it as adventure and nothing to upset about. Recently, I finally started to be able to take one mistake or happening during trip as opportunity to learn, even though I end up making the similar mistake again. :) Preparation helps, but as you mentioned, it's important not to get upset when things don't go as planned. Your next Japan trip sounds like another big adventure and I wish you the best journey!😄

    I have now seen the three water falls, hiked the Senjogahara nature trail and visited Toshugu Shrine. Nikko seems to be really nice place and it would be nice to stay there longer. Maybe rent a cottage and a bike as well as hike at the highland. Nature trail was amazing and the Nikko's forest was really different to the forests back home.
    I did a day trip with my friend and we were among the last visitors at the Toshugu Shrine. We bought tickets when clock was almost 16:30, the time when they stop selling tickets to the inner shrine. It was realy nice to see the Shrine complex with out a huge crowd. Also, it started to get darker and weather was really at atmospheric.
    Now when I have travelled to Nikko, the transport system is not that complex. However, somehow the information about how to get to the Nikko etc. is not well presented at the internet. They should make Toby railway pass which includes limited express trains.

    Thank you for this day trip idea! I have 3 days in Tokyo where I want to take day trips and this is for sure one of them. Do you think Hakone is worth it for a day trip from Tokyo KenChan? Or should Hakone be minimum one night stay?!

    • @tokyokenchan
      @tokyokenchan  Год назад +1

      Thank you for watching this video too! I suppose Hakone is popular since everything is in one seamless package, easy access from Tokyo, all the rides experience such as ropeway and ferry, and view of volcanic Owakudani and the lake. Plus, one night at Ryokan experience from budget to luxury. So it's definitely a spot to include in the itinerary especially for the first time visitor to Tokyo. It's not the best place to visit for the view of Mt.Fuji since Hakone is surrounded by caldera mountains. I went up one of the surrounding mountain called Kintoki in a day trip from Tokyo, and it was an amazing experience off from the touristy Hakone. So you can also make a day trip too. It's much easier than Nikko to access and get around. :)

      The bus stops all of those statoins and you can use the Marugoto Nikko Free Pass for the entire route. If you prefer not to hike after the Ryuzu Fall like I did, you can also take the bus and skip to Yutaki (Bus stop is Yutaki Iriguchi), and further to Yumoto Onsen. Each fall is about 5 min. walk from bus stop. There is a little slope coming back from Kegon fall. It might be better to avoid weekend and mid summer for easier trip.
