Thank you Michael for a very clear and precise review. Very enjoyable to see your interpretation of it. This is a note to everybody buying one: please make sure after installing the magnet to allow the 3M adhesive to cure for a minimum of 24 hours and even better 72 hours for full strength.
Great to have these flex plates available for resin printers now. One issue with printing flat is 'elephant foot' due to the first few layers being cured more. 3DPrintingPro has some video's on avoiding this as he encounted it printing resin bases for mini's. Next step is for Chitubox to add an 'elephant foot' reduction setting like prusaslicer.
My main printer is a Prusa MK3D, so I love a flexible build plate. I ordered one of these for my resin printer as soon as I saw it demonstrated by Uncle Jessy. Can't wait for it toarrive.
Hey Michael, I got to a point where I dreaded using my Photon due to finding it difficult to remove prints from the bed, but seeing this has given me a great deal of hope!! Waking up this morning and seeing this has made my day! I immediately preordered one and eagerly await its arrival! Thanks again, and keep up the amazing work!
Yeah, best thing I ever bought for the photon. $50 isn't cheap, but over the course of hundreds of prints its cents per print, and have damaged models getting them off the bed, so probably saves me some reprints. But mostly, it just removes one more annoyance from resin printing, well worth it and I'm going to order one for the Sonic 4K mono when it arrives..
Flex plates are one of the best improvements to FDM printing so when I saw the Wham Bam video a couple weeks ago I immediately ordered one for my Photon S. Waiting for it to arrive!
I bought the WhamBam for my FDM printer and I'm in love! Never going back to glass or anything else. I don't scuff the surface with the provided steel wool. Instead I use Dimafix and it gives me perfect adhesion and a glass finish (I never need a brim).
The moment a friend told me these exist, I didn't even hesitate to order it. At that price, I definitely want to try it as I print tiny detail parts the size of match heads and supports make it tricky.
I ordered one of these (the double kit) and using the default settings for the Phrozen printer, my first few prints with it have been amazing! I LOVE IT! My build plate had gotten a bit janky from all the times I had to basically chisel the print supports off the plate, so being able to just barely flex this plate to take the prints off has just been a life saver! It is by far and away my favorite mod for my printer yet! I use a Phrozen Sonic mini original (not the 4k model). Thank you for your awesome videos!
I'd been on the fence with regards to resin printing, and scraping prints off the plate was one of the things holding me back, after having a Prusa Mk3 for a couple years, I'll never scrape a print off a build plate. This video, and therefore this product, got me off the fence. I have everything I need ready to go, except the flex plate. Hopefully the pre-order ships soon. :) Thanks for the video!
I like to print flat on the build plate without a lot of supports so when I saw this on pre-order I thought this would be great at releasing those flat prints and I could throw the whole flex plate in IPA. Thanks for the testing, at least I know it will work as I expected, now I just have to wait for mine to arrive.
I received my Wham Bam plate this past week and installed on my Anycubic Photon Mono X. Was simple to instal...video said to wait 72 hours before printing to allow the 3M adhesive to properly adhere. Cannot wait to try it next week!
Just installed my Wham Bam Flex Plate on my Sonic Mighty 4K. It looks to be a great improvement, especially being able to print flat and faster. Great review! thanks
Thanks for the review. Have one on pre order. Actually, they're sending 1 magnet and 2 build plates for rapid turnaround. Fantastic idea. Got extra build plates for all my FDM machines. Swap plates and hit print. No cool down required.
WOW, 12 minutes for perfect prints is impressive. I am now considering a resin printer with a wham bam. Thanks again for spending more money i don't even have yet lol.
I just bought a flex plate as I make lithophanes flat to the bed and they are tricky to remove. I do it this way because they only take 12 minutes on my Mars 2 Pro! The last one I printed I had to heat with a hot air gun and gently prise it off the bed, hopefully this will be a thing of the past 🙏🏻
Ordered a double kit myself today using your link! LOVE the way this looks, I have a flexible plate for my Ender 3 and it is awesome too! I swap it back and forth with my glass bed, but with my Phrozen Sonic Mini, this will make a world of difference! I've been tired of fighting with the build plate to get my prints off! I'm glad they stick so well, but maybe a bit TOO well , lol. Thank you for all your work and I love your videos!!
i have an AnyCubic Mono X. When the build plate was new (unscratched) I didn't have any issue removing most prints. As the build plate got more scratched the strong the prints held and became nearly impossible to remove without chipping. I just ordered 2 flex plates. I hope this fixes the problem. I'm using Siraya Tech Blu, Sculpt clear, and Build. I'm use a special blend of each of these for color, strength, heat resistance, and thread cutting properties.
Already have mine pre-ordered for my Photon. Can not wait for it to come in. I love my wham bam for both my ender 3 and my cr-10 so I have high hopes for this
It’s worth noting shipping to the US is an additional $15, half the cost of the actual item for most of their selections. $50 for a 130x80mm sheet for a photon. That’s pretty a pretty expensive convenience. Not sure what shipping is like anywhere else. With that said, I do like Wambam! And I preordered one for my photon. I wonder if someone could make their own, and at a far cheaper price (in the us). TH3D sells a flex system that I absolutely love. For $45 (with shipping) you can get a 235x270 flex system (plate plus magnet) and make 2 photon build plate systems. For 2 sheets by wambam its $60+ Ya know what, my curiosity is getting the better of me. Ordered the TH3D kit and will make my own and compare to the wambam system. The first concern that would come up would be rust, but I’ve washed my other th3d flex plates in soap and water more times than I can count and no sign of any issues. So not worried there.

Hello. Thanks a lot for this interesting video. I installed Cura 4.7.0 released version two days ago. It was working fine. But suddenly, I have noticed that when printing the files sliced with Cura, the printer moves extremely fast and I'm obliged to abort the printing. What do you think is the main cause?
I just getting into resin printing ordered a anycubic mono x, great video I placed my order and its on the way. what is the cleaner you are using have a link to your video
This looks like an extremely useful product. It seems obvious now that printers should be shipping with this by default, like how removable beds have become standard on FDM ever since Prusa came out with the MK3.
Every time I see the price of one of these resin machines and the quality they produce I think "I should just order one already", then I watch a video like this and think "nope, far too much work for me". This does look like it makes things quite a bit easier, now if only they could make it significantly less messy.
I thought that as well, but eventually bought a Photon S with a wash and cure station. It's really not as bad as it seems. I never even use gloves (don't sue me) and never get any resin on me. I also don't have a huge space reserved on my work bench for handling the prints as people tend to recommend. If you're a little bit careful it's not that messy.
Already ordered when I saw it posted in a facebook group, was a bit concerned about losing build volume until I realized it would just need releveling.
Preordered one double kit for my wanhao d7 that I got cheap of ebay, this will be very interesting since I always disliked the job when to get the printed parts off of it!
Resin printing is art when it comes to supports. Orientation is critical for good adhesion. Got chose where to stick the heavy supports were they are not seen and using medium and small where they are only needed which means manual rather auto support. Wham Bam is really expensive for the Epax X1. If printing minis, there is no way of printing without supports; islands are a pain. I could see this being good for building parts or components if willing to spend more money. The real advantage comes not having to remove the base. That means less calibrations needed in the long run hopefully.
Wham Bam only produces the best in class options, we took 7 months to create a magnet and adhesive that can resist long term immersion in resins and alcohols, with the incredible strength to resist the vacuum force of layer peel, and with a specially etched flexi plate to grip well without changing your settings. In the end you get what you pay for. thanks
WhamBam have don't it again, the perfect progression from the FDM FBS. The quality of their products is worth every penny/cent, the icing on the cake is the fantastic WhamBam support. Yep! I'm talking from experience. Great video Michael.
I got one for my Photon Mono X. Im not so sure if this was a good idea. Doesnt stick as well as the original plate, not at all, cleaning the plate is extremely difficult/annoying. Since this is glued, there is no way back. didnt had any problems before i used this plate, the fun is gone a bit
I ordered one of these for my elegoo saturn for when it arrives, but apparently there was a communications issue and the Saturn's build volume has been listed as 2 different sizes. They're not shipping it out until I send in measurements for which plate size I got. Just a heads up to those that also pre-ordered the saturns. Supposedly they work great according to other 3D printing youtubers like Uncle Jessy, but it might take a little extra time because of that.
In the same boat. Looks like future Saturns will have the 'larger' build plates (first batch had slightly undersized build plates) but Elegoo won't confirm that :(
@@crenn6977 Weird. The difference was like, 6mm on the y axis right? I can totally see why they'd want to make sure because 6mm is quite a lot when it comes to this stuff but I'm surprised Elegoo had that issue.
@@redkingrauri3769 Something along those lines. First batch always seems to have an issue! I'm in the 2nd batch, so hopefully when it finally comes, I'll get a nice working machine.
We have no control over changes manufacturers may make in their components, and they never warn or share with us. We have been very reactive and created a place for you to choose your size once you get your saturn: whambamsystems.com/blog/f/resin-pre-order-and-saturn-updates If you have any other machine, do not take for granted the size of the build plate measure it before purchasing
It was featured in a recent video, the 3D printed engine bay car parts. Assuming the wiring is ok it will be receiving a temporary and very special extruder kit soon.
Formlabs printers' vats move laterally in addition to the z-axis moving upward to aid in dislodging from the FEP. Seems to work okay from what I've seen, but it requires more motors and moving parts so I dunno if that's a reasonable thing for other companies to implement.
we are keeping our promise to revolutionize the industry and make 3D printing easier, more fun and more productive. New innovational product launches coming also over the next few months!
Why drainage holes in the bottom, where they are blocked by the build plate? At least shouldn't it be removed and drained over the vat before being submerged in the cleaning solution?
After removal I let it drain above the vat. Also, hard to see in the video but I had a 4th hole on the back of the head. It's only to save resin in my case and the hollowing does a great job at that.
While this is great and very convenient, I'm kind of disappointed that the industry is focusing on this than to try and make safer and less toxic and messy resins. That's literally the only thing keeping me and others from getting one. That should be at least one of the main focuses...
I'm not of the opinion that it's hard to remove parts from build plates. I still just use the plastic scraper that came with my Photon. It's been going strong for a year and a half now. Also the main reason people don't print directly on the plate as far as I'm aware is to prevent warping such as elephant foot to the printed part. Maybe my use case is different because I print tabletop miniatures and therefor never really have a anything to print flat.
I have 2 of them, one works perfectly the other just keeps sliding and damaging my prints, how do I fix it as i have tried: slowing lifting speed less models on the print bed lower exposure re levelling the plate its so annoying as it keeps shifting.
I really hate how much Whambam has benefitted from your channel. They really make sub-par build plates (thin sheet) compared to what is available now but people keep swearing by them like gospel in part due to reviews like yours.
generally speaking, speed is one of the reasons to use a resin printer especially given that most of them are MSLA and therefore print an entire layer at a time. The newer Mono screens make them even faster. Laser Resin printers are slower than FDM but seeing as that is not really available at the hobbyist price point it is kind of irrelevant.
I don't have that printer, but potentially any printer already running Marlin can run Marlin 2. You just have to put the time in setting up the config if there is not a premade one available.
Was eager to try these. Went to order and they want a whopping $15 USD for shipping. Whambam! is less than 3 hours down the road from me. Why would they ask for that much shipping?
sorry, that is the price to ship from factory, we only use major carriers as the regular post frequently loses packages and has no accountability, not to mention the weeks of transit. the couriers have a minimal fee so you can probably order 3 kits and have same shipping cost. But this is just for the pre-order. In about 3 weeks we will have inventory in the USA, so if you dont mind waiting you can save some money on shipping. You can even pick them up from us with no shipping in 3 weeks when we have some in stock, just give us a ring or email!
Laser Man Correct, but we will have Usa stuck in three weeks, this is just a chance for people who are eager to get an early set to pre-order and get it before that.
I see a lot of people placing drain holes wrongly, and yeah, you did too. ;-) Drain holes like yours needs to be suspended in "air" if the object is placed directly on the plate (and if they're suspended they can have the holes on the bottom, like yours). So they can't be directly on the plate itself for them to work, ever. I suspect this is the reason your initial print failed too. The holes did literally nothing to decrease the suction cup effect. So yeah, place the holes on the side (perpendicular to the plate) somewhere close to the plate. Of course, only necessary when you have a hollow model.
With this simple model there was no resin trapped inside until the head closed off. Placing the drainage holes only on the bottom would do just fine, as you could pour the very little amount collected after detaching the print. However, Michael placed another one on the back of the head, just didn't show it in the video.
I have one on my ender 3 and I'm still waiting for mine to arrive for the photon. Kinda expensive compared to what I paid for the ender 3. That was my only issue.
thanks Israel for being a loyal customer, you will love this! In the end we are the best in class, we use only our own premium materials developed to do the job the best way possible.
Mean Green or Simple Green HD will do the trick as well. I haven't used IPA in ages and my prints come out crisp and clean. Might look into this flex plate as well. Warm water also helps dissolve or weaken the supports for removal. Ultrasonic cleaners (using Mean Green Simple Green goes farther as well and cheaper than IPA)
The video is old, you might've figured it out by now: Remove the supports before curing, you won't need clippers and the surface quality will be way better, since the supports are not that brittle when not cured.
I have Wham Bam resin flex plate for one month and its already cracking and make magnet side uneven. I do not recommend this for resin printers. And Wham Ban is not responding to my email to solve this issue....
@@TeachingTech no, thank you. I wouldnt be a long time subscriber had you not continually made high quality, easy to digest content. You continually better yourself and I look forward to each upload
I just do not understand why this is needed. If your prints are stuck to the build plate THAT badly, you have your initial exposure settings too high, it's that simple. I don't see the need to spend $60 to solve a problem that's easy to fix in the print settings.
People said the same thing about FDM print beds. "Just adjust your first layer!" The same reason flex beds are essential features for FDM printers is the same reason they will be for SLA printers. People don't like, and are willing to pay to avoid, inconveniences. Once it becomes a desired feature on a main stream printer, it will be on all of them.
@@ryanfitch750 "essential"... you're an idiot. If you want to throw away $ for a flex bed that 90% of people who are fdm printing don't have or need, be my guest, it's a free country. But what makes you an even bigger idiot is thinking that fdm printing and resin printing are even remotely the same thing - but I guess that someone who needs a dummy tool like a flex bed would think that's true. Btw, you're an Iphone user, aren't ya ? You sound like an Iphone user LOL.
Sure, your models might not stick to the bed, other people with large, tall models that need good adhesion have to make it so that it holds throughout the print, it's not readily solvable with settings, it's just physics. You need a strong bond for a big heavy model, and then that is hard to remove. A flex bed solves that problem. For minis, it's not required but is still super convenient. Not everyone's situation is the same.
@@originaltrilogy1 The level of idiots on youtube is almost as bad as reddit. I mean, what are we talking here, prints that weigh 10 pounds ? Do you even know how ridiculous you sound ? If you have your exposure settings correct, the damn print will stay attached if it weighs 3 oz or 3 pounds (3 pounds is the approx weight of a solid cube that takes up the ENTIRE BUILD AREA of an elgoo mars or similarly sized resin printer, and no normal print will even approach 3 pounds, so you're an idiot. As you said earlier, it's a free country. Which means you can pass this by happily, and others can buy it and benefit. What I don't understand is heading to the comments to abuse others.

@@originaltrilogy1 I don't see the model size making much difference. I use a phrozen transform and you can print some big things on that. Get yourself a good strong and sharp stainless steel scraper and it's easy.

In the end you get what you pay for. thanks
I have got to get some of these!
I have one on order!
WhamBam have don't it again, the perfect progression from the FDM FBS. The quality of their products is worth every penny/cent, the icing on the cake is the fantastic WhamBam support. Yep! I'm talking from experience. Great video Michael.
thank you Spike!
Did you scuff your actual flexplate with the sandpaper before printing?
I got one for my Photon Mono X. Im not so sure if this was a good idea. Doesnt stick as well as the original plate, not at all, cleaning the plate is extremely difficult/annoying. Since this is glued, there is no way back. didnt had any problems before i used this plate, the fun is gone a bit
SOLD!
What bigger resin 3D printer would you choose after Sonic Mini? Mighty sounds good or you have a different choise?
Buena review, parece un buen producto, gracias por las pruebas realizadas.
What was the cleaning solution you used?
ResinAway by Monocure 3D
Thanks for your review
Hey Michael, they didn't give you a discount code by any chance did they?
I don't have one sorry.
@@TeachingTech No worries, great overview either way!
What program did you use to make hole in your print? I use PrusaSlicer and I can add but not make holes
We have been very reactive and created a place for you to choose your size once you get your saturn: whambamsystems.com/blog/f/resin-pre-order-and-saturn-updates
If you have any other machine, do not take for granted the size of the build plate measure it before purchasing
@@WhamBamSystems Indeed you have. Thank you for keeping in touch and warning us about the size issues.
I am looking at the sizes and can't find the one for Sonic Mini. What size is needed?
This is the text in the shop: *Pre-Order* 124 x 70 - Phrozen Sonic Mini, Kudo Bean, Longer Orange 30
Any chance you would ever be able to review a Glowforge?
If they contact me and the printer looks innovative/interesting.
Hi Michael! Do you have any updates on the CR-10 Max??
It was featured in a recent video, the 3D printed engine bay car parts. Assuming the wiring is ok it will be receiving a temporary and very special extruder kit soon.
Formlabs printers' vats move laterally in addition to the z-axis moving upward to aid in dislodging from the FEP. Seems to work okay from what I've seen, but it requires more motors and moving parts so I dunno if that's a reasonable thing for other companies to implement.
The Peopoly Moai uses a similar system but without a wiper. Seems to work ok as well.
@@TeachingTech The wiper is pretty neat until its motor errors and knocks the print clean off the build plate :^)
Wham Bam is going to make a killing on these.
we are keeping our promise to revolutionize the industry and make 3D printing easier, more fun and more productive.
After using for a few months, have you seen any issue using the flex plate on your SLA printers?
Any update on the non-flammable cleaning solution?
damn this is magic
It sure is!
I also have a Sonic Mini and recently the Flexi Plate. Unfortunately, no model can hold this plate at all, without it everything holds.
tried to buy this in Canada for my mars 2 pro, was going to cost just over $100 CAD for the double kit.....from a Canadian retailer
While this is great and very convenient, I'm kind of disappointed that the industry is focusing on this than to try and make safer and less toxic and messy resins. That's literally the only thing keeping me and others from getting one. That should be at least one of the main focuses...
Different company and different outcomes. Creating a flex steal piece and magnet is a lot easier than creating a new chemical.
@@redkingrauri3769 I suppose. Maybe the word I'm looking for is industry.
There are plenty of resin companies releasing less toxic and water washable resins.
Water washable resins are progressing, I will be trying some soon.
Printing miniatures the yeah, don't really need this. Do large single prints that are also tall, and this is life saver.
I have 2 of them, one works perfectly the other just keeps sliding and damaging my prints, how do I fix it as i have tried:
slowing lifting speed
less models on the print bed
lower exposure
re levelling the plate
its so annoying as it keeps shifting.
Have you tried the Wham Bam on your CR10-S Pro?
Yes, had one on there for quite a while. I believe it was fitted in the CR-10S Pro fixes video.
If you can pack the build plate then yes, but otherwise a single item is generally going to be slower than FDM.
Can you please check to see if the firmware of the Geeetech A30T can be upgraded to the Marlin 2.x
I don't have that printer, but potentially any printer already running Marlin can run Marlin 2. You just have to put the time in setting up the config if there is not a premade one available.
@@TeachingTech A30T is not running Marlin. The firmware for A30T is made up by Geeetech
@@TeachingTech Could you please ask Geeetech to test & review the A30T
seems like a no brainer..Creality sells them now as accessories with LD-002H
How many times has this shifted on you now?
Great video as always, does anyone know if a Spacer is needed for the Photon Mono SE?
Was eager to try these. Went to order and they want a whopping $15 USD for shipping. Whambam! is less than 3 hours down the road from me. Why would they ask for that much shipping?
sorry, that is the price to ship from factory,
we only use major carriers as the regular post frequently loses packages and has no accountability, not to mention the weeks of transit.
the couriers have a minimal fee so you can probably order 3 kits and have same shipping cost.
But this is just for the pre-order. In about 3 weeks we will have inventory in the USA, so if you dont mind waiting you can save some money on shipping.
You can even pick them up from us with no shipping in 3 weeks when we have some in stock, just give us a ring or email!
At the moment they ship individually from overseas.
Laser Man Correct, but we will have Usa stuck in three weeks, this is just a chance for people who are eager to get an early set to pre-order and get it before that.
I want this one for my D7
I see a lot of people placing drain holes wrongly, and yeah, you did too. ;-) Drain holes like yours needs to be suspended in "air" if the object is placed directly on the plate (and if they're suspended they can have the holes on the bottom, like yours).
So they can't be directly on the plate itself for them to work, ever. I suspect this is the reason your initial print failed too. The holes did literally nothing to decrease the suction cup effect. So yeah, place the holes on the side (perpendicular to the plate) somewhere close to the plate. Of course, only necessary when you have a hollow model.
Yeah, I think FDM people have trouble thinking upside down :)
@@WhamBamSystems Thanks even with the price range I still recommend it and I would of still got it no matter the price.
I bought one immediately lol
My parts keep falling off the wham bam flex plate
This makes me wanna try resin but, I can't find IPA anywhere right now do to COVOD-19....
Its out there... Horribly expensive but out there. I paid 45 bucks for 4 liters off of amazon.
Denatured Alchohol works and so does Acetone. Acetone actually works really good but you have to be quick with it.
ethyl alcohol also works well
@@WhamBamSystems is that like Denatured Alcohol and will that work with the FDM plates? I'm crazy low on the 91% Pharmacy IPA.
Wham, ban!
your table isnt level and you printer arm isnt square. dont know how much that might affect you but it bugs me.
i'll wait for the chinese clone to come out. my chinesium flex bed for all my fdm works flawlessly too
Too bad it isn't available for the Moai
The video is old, you might've figured it out by now: Remove the supports before curing, you won't need clippers and the surface quality will be way better, since the supports are not that brittle when not cured.
Me: Sure ill go check them out
also me: these are half the cost of my printer fuck that.
the title says "Wham ban" with an N
Fixed, thank you. Why do the m and n keys next to each other when my fingers are so clumsy?
I have Wham Bam resin flex plate for one month and its already cracking and make magnet side uneven. I do not recommend this for resin printers. And Wham Ban is not responding to my email to solve this issue....
1:19 is that the frandendoodle i see?
Indeed it is! Well spotted, and thanks for being a long time viewer.
@@TeachingTech no, thank you. I wouldnt be a long time subscriber had you not continually made high quality, easy to digest content. You continually better yourself and I look forward to each upload
That's definitely a significant advance for this tech.
Wham, Bam 2'nd view!
$50 USD to ship to Australia :/ Oof.. Don't suppose you could get us a discount code @Teaching Tech?
It will probably settle down postage wise soon, I think an Aussie distributor is going to bring a bunch in.
Buy all the stupid gimmicks you want, but don't ask me to believe it's some fundamental law of physics that's making it necessary - it's just you having no clue what you're doing LOL.
As you said earlier, it's a free country. Which means you can pass this by happily, and others can buy it and benefit. What I don't understand is heading to the comments to abuse others.
I've been resin printing for over a year now and never once has it been anything but easy to remove models from the build plate. I don't see the point of this.
Well you are lucky. I print large models that fill the build plate that can be a nightmare to remove.
@@originaltrilogy1 I don't see the model size making much difference. I use a phrozen transform and you can print some big things on that. Get yourself a good strong and sharp stainless steel scraper and it's easy.
@@TheLevitatingChin My Transform has a perforated base, so is very different. You might not see the point, for me, it works great and is well worth the price.
You must have the older flat build plate. I'm using the more recent that's angled to facilitate draining and has no holes.
I have a Creality flex plate (and they supply 2!) at HALF the cost of this rip off merchant.
Shop around! Even Tiny Machines version of the one i use is $10 cheaper!
