Well the thing is a lot of these are expected from open world games sure it may be heavily inspired but if you play it for a while its quite different.
I played BotW for so many years, got tired of it after there was nothing else to do but still love the game. And when GI was released and BotW community was all worked up calling GI a "BotW copy", I actually believed and hated GI. But I got a PS5 and started playing Genshin around 4 months ago, and the similarities are so superficial and unimportant, I can't even believe people hated that game for something so silly. Right now I actually like GI more, the lore is really well developed and the variety of playable characters interest me more, even as a f2p player. Both games are great, have few similarities, but I wouldn't call Genshin a "BotW copy".
Superficial and unimportant? Copying a games entire art design, style, concepts isn’t superficial and unimportant. There isn’t anything GI does that breath of the wild didn’t already do but better. Having 60 characters doesn’t make a game unique or significant. It’s for paywalls and nothing more. It’s ridiculous that it’s even a discussion on whether it’s a clone or not. I myself have played breath of the wild (over 200 hours) and I know firsthand the similarities and differences between it and genshin impact

But Genshin is a fantastic game in its own right. The reason why lots of people aren’t letting this go because a lot of you Genshin fanbois deny the things it took from Zelda. They took it, ok? Admit it but Genshin is still a damn original and good game.
Yeah genshin did take some inspiration from a lot of things but you’re kind of overhyping it here ngl. Even as someone who loves both games, definitely overhyping it

(def gotta return and do ganon though)
@@critlel7606 I can respect that. For me however, the only reason I love both is that both are fun to play. The only thing I hate about both is their community. For instance, When Genshin was first announced, BOTW community went ape sh*t on a "free" game...and Genshin because it's community on Twitter is just absolutely idiotic or, like usual, talking dumb for clouts. Both are good but both have their ups and downs
Honestly when Genshin first started, it did feel and look extremely similar to BotW, to the point that when I saw a video of Genshin when it first released, I thought it was BotW at first. But although it really seemed WAY too similar when it first released, at this point it's pretty clear that Genshin has evolved to become its own very distinct and unique entity. For one, I'd say BotW is much more of a survival/puzzle-solving game than Genshin, which is more of a fighting game. BotW has Link with all sorts of functions and items that you have to think creatively on how to maximise your different runes and weapons in battle, or even outside battle. There's a lot of focus on finding new and creative ways of doing stuff, like dropping metal crates on enemies. It's more realistic, with trees being literally destroyed when you cut them down, literally anything can catch on fire... (the good old way of dropping apples into fire to cook them, I was surprised when shooting a bird with Amber's charged shot didn't turn it directly into roasted chicken). Genshin focuses more on the different characters because of course it's a gacha game, and the different synergies in different team comps, and it's definitely much heavier on the fighting than BotW.
Botw makes you think about creative aprouches to face your enemy's while in genshin impact you just need to press mouse one while switching characters and throwing their abilities without any skill evolved or any other option to face them
BOTW still has the better fighting system even though it's not as focused on fighting as Genshin and also "BotW has Link with all sorts of functions and items that you have to think creatively on how to maximise your different runes and weapons in battle" Isn't that like a main aspect of Genshin? Getting good artifacts and finding the best set of weapons, team combinations etc.
@@starstenaal527 Eh.... They are aiming for pretty much completely different styles of combat, so it's difficult to really compare them. BotW's more Technical, while GI's more Arcadey, especially if you factor in the optional multiplayer.
the only big difference is Link doesn't talk while they can say a few words Edit:I meant this as a joke taking reference from old LoZ games but some people getting pissed for not considering battle noises as talking...I don't have any words😶...
I still don't understand why people argue so much about this two games, there are a lot of games that for mechanics and graphics style are really similar, but no one complain about those title, and anyway, there is no copyright on graphics style or mechanics because if it was a thing, than for example every game with Cell Shading should be considered plagiarism. There is copyright on stories, names, characters, Maps or regions, but Mihoyo didn't copied hyrule map, or link character, or enemies design, they just implemented open world mechanics and used Cell Shading. Saying that genshin impact copied botw it's nonsensical because one is a gacha game with open world more combat oriented, the other is an open world game focused on delivering the best experience in exploration (let's be honest, Botw world is more alive and with more physics and possibilities), so comparing the two it's just useless.
Yep, Genshin is more grindy since it's a free game and more focused on milking money for waifus/husbandos and leveling them, while BOTW is a paid experience for people who like the Zelda franchise. Just because one game pioneered a style doesn't mean it should be the only game with that style. If we kept that shitty mindset videogame genres wouldn't exist because only 1 game is allowed to have that genre.
@@linkcorriere846 might look like a clone at the start, but when you go even further to the game, it feels like a different game. Honestly saying this is useless, so I won’t try convincing you to like the game or even try it.
pretty much, because It's a whole different genre, Zelda is a full complete story, and open world game, while genshin is a online Gacha game, with a story that isn't finished... at all, we've gotta at least wait for YEARS until the whole story is finish, like Honkai Impact as an example, I wish MiHoyo could've just finished the whole story immediately, rather than wait for months before the new updates came

Similarities I found: Explosive barrels: Explosive barrels can be found in both games, and both explosive, but they have their own different designs. Stamina: You use stamina to run, glide, climb, and swim. All decrease stamina. Wind Currents: You will have to activate/find a wind current to glide along. Wind gliders: Wind Gliders are used to specifically fly along wind currents, or just to glide freely. Enemy camps: The enemy camps are a little similar.
If you wanna go to the older Zelda games, The wave rider is literally like link's boat small and has a cartoonish look but I'll give them credit since the boat doesn't talk
We need updated comparisons between both games that focus on the later game content. The beginning of Genshin Impact is SUPER similar to BOTW but it becomes completely different in the later game. It doesn't matter which you prefer because the similarities are mostly superficial.
Some of these comments here are like: "Genshin Impact isn't just a BotW clone," and then straight up say "It's like I'm playing BotW again!" Like, y'all are gonna seriously complain over the fact that people compare it to BotW, and then use that as a main selling point.

@@primeoctober No, one literally have the same mechanic while Mario vs Sonic, while they're both 2d parkour games, uses different mechanics, which is why no one claims that they're copying.
Two differences that I quite like about Genshin Impact when compared to Zelda. 1) The Rain doesn’t affect the climbing. 2) The weapons don’t break every 5-10 minutes.
Well let's see... Genshin • More accessibility (thank God, you can even play it on phone) • Free to play (kinda) • Better story • Better combat mechanics • Lots of playable characters • Tougher bosses (or easier, depending on your build) • Lots of minigames and weekly events to earn prices (well it's an online game after all) • It's an RPG first and an open world game second. The game is more combat focused, it's map has a higher enemy density that botw. But the exploration is really restricted by the adventure rank system BOTW • Exclusive (oh come on nintendo, I had to borrow a friend's switch to play this) • Paid • Better open world (open world games are supposed to give you a sense of freedom, in genshin the newer areas and the later story quests are restricted by adventure ranks. But in botw after you complete the tutorial and get the glider you can go anywhere anytime. hell you can even face the final boss if you want to lol, but don't do that he'll kick your ass) • Better music • Just one playable character (but he can use any weapon) • Better dungeons (I don't think it's even a competition, the Zelda series are known for the awesome dungeons) • Most importantly, better replay value • BOTW is more focused on exploration than combat. The enemy density is much less, but the amount of stuff to explore is insane. Even four years after it's release people are finding new stuff even nowadays I am not gonna compare graphics cuz it depends on the player. Lot's of people like genshin graphics more cuz of it's anime style world. But I personally love the botw world as the more realistic graphics makes the world feel alive Now the grinding in botw is pretty easy, enemies respawn during blood moons which occur every 2 - 3 hours (real world time) of gameplay. Weapons in botw breaks and you may or may not get them back, weapons found in shrines will not respawn whereas the weapons found in the open world respawn with every blood moon. In genshin weapons never break, but if you are not careful you might get broke while trying to pull for a 5 star weapon. Grinding in genshin is based on a resin system which is kinda frustrating as grinding is also rng based. I talk about this from personal experience after all those hours spent on grinding artifacts only to get some defense substats all the time. Some of the bosses can only be looted once a week, which is the most frustrating thing about grinding in genshin. That being said as the weapons never break in genshin you can choose any playstyle you want and stick with it, whereas in botw you have to adapt constaly thoughout the fight against bosses as weapons break and the new one you are switching to may not be of the same type (thank God the master sword does not break, although it needs to recharge after a while of fighting) As much as I like genshin, I really feel bad for the newer players who pulled Raiden Shogun at low adventure rank levels. They gotta wait a long time to build her up. I only hope the situation doesn't get worse when newer regions come out
now this is a great and unbiased comparison. though i need to point out the physic as well, that aspect is what makes BoTW better than Genshin Impact in my opinion
@@deadwannabe It takes basic knowledge to know that since they didn’t showcase the entire map for genshin, it makes the comparison inaccurate. These are the 4 champions who will defeat calamity ganon but ultimately defeated. Now link freed the souls of the champions and the champions gave link their Blessing, and help to finally defeat ganon. He retrieves the master sword. Now he's ready he defeats the first form of ganon with the help of the champions and now calamity ganons true form has awaken, with the help of zelda link defeats ganon and zelda seals him away, now in zelda return link and here with rebuild hyrule. The movement in Genshin Impact, in my opinion, is less stiff. The characters move more freely, especially when you change directions while walking and coming to a halt. Loz:Botw Links movement is more, shall I say, realistic when it comes to running 😂 But its a little stiff. Other then that, both of em are great games and worth the play.
@@ixoku8219 Looks stiff ≠ feels stiff, the main reason ppl think genshin plays smoother is because BoTW is locked at 30fps while Genshin Impact can be played in 60fps. I played both games with a controller, and i personally think that BoTW plays smoother, just by how much you tilt the analog stick can greatly affect how fast you walk or sprint, when you stop pushing the analog, Link will immediately stop. I can’t say the same thing for Genshin Impact though, even when i stopped tilting the analog stick, sometimes the characters still moves
@@ixoku8219 No, that’s not what the developers intended to do, that’s game design flaw, it’s not about realism, in a game, you want the control to be as precise as possible. When the characters doesnt stop immediately, it’s a huge problem when solving puzzles in video games, and i’ve felt this many times in Genshin Impact. Furthermore on your point, Genshin Impact doesnt have more movement animations than BoTW, it’s the other way around, BoTW has so many animations for just walking and sprinting, the movement speed progressively increases depending on how far you tilt the analog stick, while in Genshin Impact, there’s only 2 animation for walking and sprinting respectively. Genshin Impact looks smoother merely because the game is played on 60fps, when that’s not neccesarily the case in reality, BoTW is actually far more smoother and responsive in almost every aspect excluding the frame rate I know it sounded like me fanboying on BoTW, but i’ve played both games extensively and i like both games almost equally, but Genshin Impact really doesnt stand a chance against BoTW when it comes to quality control, BoTW is far more polished in almost every way

Hear me out. Here is a completely honest review of Genshin Impact from a Breath of the Wild pro. First of, Breath of the Wild is one of my favourite games of all time and I am a huge fan of the Zelda series. I'm huge fan of fantasy and whimsy in general. I gotta say, Genshin Impact looks like a ambitious, younger sibling of Breath of the Wild and that's why it looks like it has massive wins going for it. Unfortunately it has some massive pitfalls that prevents it being as great and groundbreaking as Breath of the Wild. Genshin Impact looks very pretty and intresting, which is a great experience for a while, but as you continue playing it the more repetitive and grindy the world gets. As you're done exploring everywhere, the more the openworld feels empty. The only thing that is left are daily milestones that go nowhere. The Gacha system the game has is a some sort of a gambling method that taunts you to get yourselves pretty looking characters by buying ingame lootboxes, it is the most unfair thing about the game, the more you gain interest in it, the more you start to lose but you just can't let go of it that easily. Let's talk about the story. Genshin Impact is filled with a wide range of characters and cool JRPG/MMORPG gameplay elements. You should know people are having fun playing the game CO-OP with friends. Gliding and Climbing mechanics which are for exploration are ripped stright out of Breath of the Wild, but BOTW is still pretty fun and cool. The artstyle is the perfect example of what 3D anime should look like. The music is predictable but still pretty and soothing which creates a decent atmosphere for the game. As much as it has it's pros the much cons it has. The dialouge given feels a little off as it has very little to do with the actual context. It tries to make the characters look cool and beatiful but fails at giving them appareant character development that might have led the story to brand new heights. At least that is what happend so far. I'm seeing Genshin Impact ads everywhere I go and I can't help it but think, do they care more about promoting the game rather than making the game better? (Personally, I have always focused more on the storyline and character developement The game visibly released with an unfinished story that might take years to complete, the writers of the games' story focusing on how they are going to keep the story going and most importantly, how are they going to conclude it. This might result some massive plot holes that might ruin where the story leads to. The story of this game has so much potential so it would be bad to screw it up. As much as the game plays and feels great, some major parts of it feels unfair, generic and rushed, but it's also a breath of fresh air. Even though it has many problems, Genshin Impact is not a bad game. You can still play it for free for the good parts and put it down when you feel like you're finished, my advise, do not fall into the Gacha hell real quick. I'm giving Genshin Impact a solid 7,5/10. It's an alright game for the most part. Don't forget, this is just my opinion, everyone is free to say whatever they want. Here is the thing, both Breath of the Wild and Genshin Impact are very enjoyable games. You can still play both of them if you want. I advise you both of them. If you have read all of this, I really appreciate it. Have wonderful day and don't forget to stay healthy. Play, enjoy, love.
I agree, the reason why BOTW is the better game because it was made with much more effort considering it is a paid game. Genshin Impact has a lot to improve and I don't like the fact that people praise it so much. Don't get me wrong though, I have 3,000 hours in Genshin but I do still think there is a LOT that either needs to be fixed, or to be improved in different aspects of it as a video game, which is why it is free-to-play, it's not the best game there is. BOTW is game of the year material, I have never considered Genshin Impact as a Game of the Year material. Genshin Impact has either given me very joyful experiences or the most frustrating moments of my life from playing a video game.
imo if the art/design is good- it distracts me from the story. Although i do think that since the game would take years to finish (the main story) i sometimes forget what even happened. Itd be a better experience for new players that start when the whole thing is finished imo, since i think it would wrap up the lore a bit better and make it more memorable for the player. We cant do anything about that problem though… animation takes time. I do enjoy getting to know a characters story and stuff, but i’ll excuse this slight nuisance because this game really was mind blowing to me; as someone whos only ever played horribly animated mobile games and cant afford expensive pc games. This is my favourite so far.
As a genshin player, i agree with you too, even if graphics or story are great, they make it repetitive and I think that indeed they care about more for making money than making the game better and more interesting, I haven't had the opportunity to have botw because of money but im sure I will enjoy it the most
But still we gotta give it a little bit of time, genshin is a new game and its still making upgrades so we just need to wait and see how they improve the game
I think genshin and botw are only similar in terms of exploration and mechanics. Those who say genshin is just a copy have clearly never played it and only seen the trailers. Also a LOT of work is clearly put into genshin impact, reducing it to just a copy is disrespectful to all the people who work on it. Also above everything genshin is A GATCHA game, completely unrelated to botw.
@@sodasanimations2911 realistic? They are both FANTASY games none of them are realistic I think. Both are nice games and genshin is inspired by botw but it’s not a clone
Although many things do look and feel the same, I can't exactly say the combat mechanics feel the same, considering they have this whole element triangle system going on that encourages you to fight using multiple characters at a time. Unlike in botw where you just only have different weapons and three elemental abilities that don't work off one another. Then there's the fact genshin has a leveling system which not only includes your base level, but item levels, statue's levels, ect. Oh and I gotta mention how they took the health mechanic and actually improved it in my opinion. In botw, you can pop and swallow apples like there's no tomorrow. In Genshin, however, characters can only eat so much before they get full and can't eat anymore for a time. Basically keeps you from abusing that mechanic like you can in botw. Another fun thing they added, there are certain items and environments that really encourage you to interact with them in order to obtain or beat something. Like, there were these flowers that I couldn't grab at first, they spat fire, and I couldn't get it until I froze the flower. So there are like tiny little differences that I kinda appreciate and like. Then there were rocks and stones that when struck, aided in elemental combat. For example, striking a water stone gets enemies wet, making it easy to freeze them. In botw, interacting with the environment isn't too much encouraged, it's just there. You like , kinda forget to use it until you come across the eventide island shrine quest or the sword trials. Like seriously, outside those moments, I only shot frickin' bomb barrels in the environment, forgetting boulders, the stasis rune was an after thought..... A lot of things I didn't care to use since weapons, shields, and bows were my bread and butter. Genshin is fun, and I don't really care how similar it is too botw.
I haven't played it but it just looks like taking RPG elements you(as in devs) like and applying them to BOTW. Which doesn't seem bad, I think it's totally fine to take things you like and mash them together.

But I got a PS5 and started playing Genshin around 4 months ago, and the similarities are so superficial and unimportant, I can't even believe people hated that game for something so silly.
Damn mans pulled up with the dictionary
Botw makes you think about creative aprouches to face your enemy's while in genshin impact you just need to press mouse one while switching characters and throwing their abilities without any skill evolved or any other option to face them
BOTW still has the better fighting system even though it's not as focused on fighting as Genshin
and also "BotW has Link with all sorts of functions and items that you have to think creatively on how to maximise your different runes and weapons in battle" Isn't that like a main aspect of Genshin? Getting good artifacts and finding the best set of weapons, team combinations etc.
@@starstenaal527 Eh.... They are aiming for pretty much completely different styles of combat, so it's difficult to really compare them. BotW's more Technical, while GI's more Arcadey, especially if you factor in the optional multiplayer.

Well let's see...
Genshin
• More accessibility (thank God, you can even play it on phone)
• Free to play (kinda)
• Better story
• Better combat mechanics
• Lots of playable characters
• Tougher bosses (or easier, depending on your build)
• Lots of minigames and weekly events to earn prices (well it's an online game after all)
• It's an RPG first and an open world game second. The game is more combat focused, it's map has a higher enemy density that botw. But the exploration is really restricted by the adventure rank system
BOTW
• Exclusive (oh come on nintendo, I had to borrow a friend's switch to play this)
• Paid
• Better open world (open world games are supposed to give you a sense of freedom, in genshin the newer areas and the later story quests are restricted by adventure ranks. But in botw after you complete the tutorial and get the glider you can go anywhere anytime. hell you can even face the final boss if you want to lol, but don't do that he'll kick your ass)
• Better music
• Just one playable character (but he can use any weapon)
• Better dungeons (I don't think it's even a competition, the Zelda series are known for the awesome dungeons)
• Most importantly, better replay value
• BOTW is more focused on exploration than combat. The enemy density is much less, but the amount of stuff to explore is insane. Even four years after it's release people are finding new stuff even nowadays
I am not gonna compare graphics cuz it depends on the player. Lot's of people like genshin graphics more cuz of it's anime style world. But I personally love the botw world as the more realistic graphics makes the world feel alive
Now the grinding in botw is pretty easy, enemies respawn during blood moons which occur every 2 - 3 hours (real world time) of gameplay. That being said as the weapons never break in genshin you can choose any playstyle you want and stick with it, whereas in botw you have to adapt constaly thoughout the fight against bosses as weapons break and the new one you are switching to may not be of the same type (thank God the master sword does not break, although it needs to recharge after a while of fighting)
As much as I like genshin, I really feel bad for the newer players who pulled Raiden Shogun at low adventure rank levels. They gotta wait a long time to build her up. I only hope the situation doesn't get worse when newer regions come out
now this is a great and unbiased comparison. though i need to point out the physic as well, that aspect is what makes BoTW better than Genshin Impact in my opinion

@@airfloresjp you are soo biased lmao.
I mean botw storyline revolves around a character named link, who is the guard of princess zelda. And one day calamity ganon attacked, basically ending hyrule. 100 years later link is awakened from his sleep. A mysterious old man thought him the basics and revealed he was the ghost of the former king, links goal is the save Hyrule and the four beast which has a fragment of calamity ganon, he also went to retrieve his memory and master sword. With this he went to see the zoras, Goron, gerudo, rito, etc. He defeated the 4 fragments of ganon.
Mipha a zora, daruk a Goron, Urbosa a gerudo, revali a rito. And of course link a hylian.
There is more than that like MORE a storyline spanning over 30 years i can't cover them all. Also link was injured and was put in a shrine to heal for 100 years and only awaken when the time is right. Q/A me.

The movement in Genshin Impact, in my opinion, is less stiff. The characters move more freely, especially when you change directions while walking and coming to a halt. Well it is on console after all
If it was also on pc the gameplay would not be that stiff
Genshin Impact looks smoother merely because the game is played on 60fps, when that’s not neccesarily the case in reality, BoTW is actually far more smoother and responsive in almost every aspect excluding the frame rate
I know it sounded like me fanboying on BoTW, but i’ve played both games extensively and i like both games almost equally, but Genshin Impact really doesnt stand a chance against BoTW when it comes to quality control, BoTW is far more polished in almost every way

(Personally, I have always focused more on the storyline and character developement
The game visibly released with an unfinished story that might take years to complete, the writers of the games' story focusing on how they are going to keep the story going and most importantly, how are they going to conclude it.
@@crystalwu7400 I actually bought a steam deck few days ago, you can play all the game you want there, even Breath of the Wild
I play and love both games. The only problem is WE CANT PET THE DOGS (and cats for Genshin)
I played genshin cause i was told its an mmo, but its a lie. You can invite your friend there tho which is only mildly disappointing

No, no, he got a point.

Genshin is fun, and I don't really care how similar it is too botw.
so. ur hating on botw?

I haven't played it but it just looks like taking RPG elements you(as in devs) like and applying them to BOTW. Which doesn't seem bad, I think it's totally fine to take things you like and mash them together.
I feel like Genshin and botw just have core elements of an open world game and all of the main similarities are in the tutorial
