Anderson .Paak - Lockdown
Lyrics:
You shoulda been downtown, the people are rising
We thought it was a lock down, they opened up fire
Dem bullets was flying
They said it was a lockdown, got damn lie
Oh my! Time heals all, but you outta time now
Judge gotta watch us from the clock tower
Little tear gas cleared the whole place out
I’ll be back with the hazmat for the next round
We was tryna protest and the fires broke out
Lookout for the secret agents they be planted in the crowd
Said it’s civil unrest
But you sleep so sound
like you don’t hear the screams when we catchin beat downs
Stayin quiet when they killin niggas
But you speak loud when we riot
got opinions comin from a place of privilege
Sicker than the covid how they did him on the ground
Speaking of the covid is it still goin around?
Oh why don’t you tell me bout the lootin what’s that really all about?
Cause they throw away black lives like paper towels
Plus unemployment rate what? 40 million now
Killed a man in broad day, might never see a trial
We just wana break chains like slaves in the south
Started in the north end but we ended downtown
Riot cops tried to block, now we got a showdown... down
You shoulda been downtown, the people are rising
We thought it was a lock down, they opened up fire
Dem bullets was flying
Who said it was a lockdown, got damn lie
(Ooh wee)
Lockdown we ain’t gotta stop cause they tell us to
Downtown where I got popped with the rubber bullet
Tre pound, Got it in my name now
Imma shoot it
Jay Rock:
Turn on your tube dog, look how they do us
Knee on our necks, bullets in backs
Stimulus checks strictly for blacks
History repeating, people scared to eat a chicken
Everybody going vegan, what they put in it?
Look at the world we’re living in
They got us shook in it
You go on your jog, then your color might get you took in it
The man in the mirror can’t look away you gotta look at it
Black lives matter so what it means when they shoot at it?
Generation genocide, what happened to enterprise
Heard the man infiltrated, Black Panthers reenergize
Ain’t nothing to figure out
They trying to kill us out, if I take a kneel, see my fist I’ma kill it now
Just think, bullshit you gotta filter out
Are you really ready for the smoke like a swisher house?
Ready for the revolution who ready to riot?
It won’t be televised, so tell me who ready to die?
If downtown going up, where we at with the shits?
We at the liquor store nigga, bout to get us a fifth
Know they boutta start looting, get the gloves and masks
Watch out for them tanks when they rolling past
Never understand why they do it
someone cut the channel off the news ‘fore I lose it
I ain’t even trippin if you wit it, then we lootin
Help put this Louis in the back of Suzuki
He had to break down so smoothly
Ain’t gone say it’s not about race but we movin hoe, pow!
Got the tre pound, had to put it in my name now
Wish a nigga play now
Any given day I’ll be headed to the pulpit
Say a little prayer, matter fact I need two of em
Ooh won’t he do it, won’t he do it
Ooh this ain’t 92 so we into new rules
Niggas got hip, so we don’t loot the projects
Bout to hit rodeo with my little cousin Marcus
Some one threw a whole brick into Neumann Marcus
Help me put the whole mannequin in the charger
You shoulda been downtown(down), the people are rising(look around)
We thought it was a lock down(lockdown), they opened up fire (had to get low)
Dem bullets was flying(down, down)
Who said it was a lockdown, got damn lie
(Ooh wee)Lockdown we ain’t gotta stop cause they tell us to
Downtown where I got popped with the rubber bullet
Tre pound, Got it in my name now
Imma shoot it
Lockdown we ain’t gotta stop cause they tell us to
Downtown

@@DavioGuitar Lyrics are in the description
Only he can make such a serious topic this groovy.
No. Many more groove as well
Funk like James brown
Um Kendrick Lamar??
OMG YES!!!!!!! It's like what Marvin Gaye did with What's Going On. Smh at how good this song is. And it's got that nighttime vibe too?! Paak is magical. Only a drummer can be like that.
I saw you were at 999 and had to get ya that 1 more like lol
What I always find fascinating. American artists can pickup the most violent topic and create a most desirable song out of it. Anderson is a true genius.
the song is cool, but the lyrics is simply propaganda. It's totally bending the truth.
@@gawel772 so black people aren't being shot by police ? Cause that's what this song is saying - and if you say it's propaganda then you're also saying that black people are not being shot by the police.
@@dustmite5887 the lyrics aren't only about black people being shot by police.
"We was tryna protest and the fires broke out"
"Little tear gas cleared the whole place out "
"You shoulda been downtown, the people are rising
We thought it was a lock down, they opened up fire
Dem bullets was flying"
The song is about people trying to protest, but police shoots them xDDD This is absoulutely not true. Not only people could easily protest but also there were riots that weren't stopped by the police xDD There was even autonomus area in Seattle set up with force without local inhabitants consent, this is kind of agression when you impose your rules on people like local habitants...
Basically the song suggests that peacful protests were pacified by the police xDDD
@@dustmite5887 Also,
"Oh why don’t you tell me bout the lootin what’s that really all about?
Cause they throw away black lives like paper towels
Plus unemployment rate what? 40 million now"
The song is trying to justify looting xDDD And the songs suggests that the unemployment rate is caused by the government or something like that. USA is a free market country it means that THE POPLE create jobs for OTHER PEOPLE, not the government....
In comunism era in Poland, the government created jobs for people, but it is the past now..
@@dustmite5887 I am not sure if you are from USA, but from my polish perspective i think that the people in USA are going way too far to the left... those views aren't liberal anymore...
How do you even make a song that is so groovy and catchy but still has such serious subject matter?? Very few people could pull this off. Props to Anderson
Wasn’t expecting a surprise Jay Rock freestyle but I’m happy it happened
Thanks for the spoiler

Anderson Paak is a genius of our time and isn't receiving the attention he deserves. No one compares with him and wont for a long time
He's like a hip hob Bruno 😂
He ist not underrated, only the smart people in this generation getting his attention ❤️
Facts! He’s a true artist.
Why is everyone a genius to you guys? You over using this word too much
Paak is an incredibly talented musician and a pretty good lyricist, but he's not a genius. A genius is someone who pushes boundaries, sees the world in different colours and makes those colours visible to everyone else. Not to take away from Anderson, big fan of his work and loved the song, but he's not a genius. Don't overuse the word please.
Man, in 10 years we gonna look back and realize how significant this movement was. This track is the perfect capture of the national mood and current events, it literally couldn't be any more perfect.
Hopefully, but We still dealing with the same issues in this gen that we always be dealing with, the more things change the more they stay they same.
Well, this comment didn't age well... After the leader of this "significant movement " defrauded all her subjects and didn't put not even 1 cent of donations for African Americans or their communities. She spent it all on mansions, parties and private security. It was never a movement to better black Americans, it was to glorify black criminals, and segregation of races.
Ended up with the fellas runnin the movement siphoning off money to buy real estate and bling.
Defunding police ended terribly as well.
Millions lost in burglary and arson.

As much as I love Cheeky Andy, I have to go with SiR who happens to be in this video for most underrated of the generation.
Paak is not underrated tho. he made/ is making albums with Dr Dre, was in 2016 freshman cypher, featured in a lot of other songs with famous artists and has a small history from before anderson paak (he was using Breezy Lovejoy as his artist name and back then he was underrated).

This song is also very powerful to me even though it doesn't have a lot of lyrics. I think they tried to capture the spirit of the movement by channeling the spirit of Marvin Gaye. Check it out:

Anderson .Paak representing the real reason what hip hop is ACTUALLY about, lyrics slapping deep...
Yea bro and he's old school so these songs bring back memories
wanna hear what i wrote
Good to see the generation of Millenials in their 30s showing what hip hop is about. Not knocking the younger millenials in their 20s you got some with great potential like Cordae and some others. Story telling and emotion is what it is about and having a great message.
hol up, pause "slapping deep" sorry im childish
His xxl will still always be funny
This ladies and gentlemen is how you really get a message out through your art. From everything to the artwork to the actual single and video. Anderson making the soundtrack to the movement. As over the groovy backdrop he speaks on police brutality, unemployment, the virus, the protests and everything else that has everyone on Lockdown. With his groovy, yet hauntingly beautiful voice and message in both the hauntingly, yet beautiful video and record. Being one that will be an anthem for years to come. That will be remembered for this time period in much the same way that fellow Los Angeles natives N.W.A.’s Fvck tha Police was for a generation. With the surprise feature from Jay Rock the perfect complementary touch too. As Paak shows yet again why he’s one of the best and most definitive artists of his generation.
wow, are you professional writer? can you narrate my life damn

Equating this to F the Police and saying it will be an anthem for years to come... think you're getting ahead of yourself there buddy
@@kieranriches1089 It definitely touches on the same notes and tones of the times with that level of relavance that is era defining. Hu Kares that is a common fact used my white supremacists to make the black community look bad, just admit you are racist. You seem so mad the the message is finally being spread. You guys really prove me wrong everyday, you racists get dumber and dumber by the second.🥱 Stay mad racist white boy❄️
Everybody is quoting him with their favorite parts but this whole song is just straight facts. I don't have a favorite part because of it 😔✊
TRUTH✊🏾🖤🙏🏽💪🏾👊🏽✌🏾
They obliterated this song, it's crazy. A blunt massage give straight to people 😔🔥🔥🔥
Actually it's not all facts
bro, that's the sad thing 😔😔
Wish it wasn't like this, hopefully thing change
I’m here trying to see how this song won the Grammy over Roddy Rich-The Box. But I see why , damn this some good music!
This is on another level. The box is lit dont get me wrong. But this is leagues above it.
The d8fference is this has meaning and it's impactful. Also I'm pretty sure he uses actually instruments to do the background music which he does himself.
The box is corny af
Yeah!
This will be a song u can show ur kids and they will listen and learn about the year. But the box... it’s great but not as impactful. Not even close to the level of lockdown at all honestly.
@@RickyRegal. yeah anderson plays drums and i think bass/keys? not fully sure but he plays drums and sings on his tiny desk performance
Congrats on the grammy Paak! Well deserved
I need a Jay Rock & Syd feature. So dope to see them all together, legendary video
So glad to see Dumbfoundead and Syd AND SiR on the scene.
L.A thang
Have you seen Dumbfoundead’s “Cell Phone”? The two of them go way back. Way back to when .Paak went by Breezy Lovejoy
Dumb!!!! LA OG!!!!❤️👌
And Dominic too!
Honda Accord SiR?!?!!?
He just won Grammy for this song!!!! 💙
Jay Rock went hard af right there 😳
Gil Scot Heron and Curtis Mayfield are somewhere smiling. Great music, great message. Love Paak
Love that he pays homage to the greats. From 6 summers: "the revolution will not be televised but it will be streamed live in 1080p on your pea brain head in the face ass mobile device"
Dont forget about donny H.
Wooooeee! Say it brotha! You just dropped two of the funkiest producers in history
Yup
So true! Those songs stood the test of time as this one will
Paak is basically TDE to me at this point, ever since TorcH with Q, they don’t miss when they collab
Bro Anderson Paak does good solo but he’s done a bunch of bomb collabs. Check out Nx Wxrries if you haven’t heard them yet or Free Nationals. All dopey dopeness 💣 🧨 💥 🔥
Paak is a legend. The ability of this nigga to concoct his style of music from different genres is just amazing. Legendary 🔥🔥
Nah shady records all day
GenesisnKaidence shady records is kinda wack not gonna lie
@@kspades2530 yeah, buh Jay Rock is not there
How this was not nominated for song or record of the year is a total lockdown
I’m so glad this song won the Grammy

If you ain’t feeling this, you ain’t human.
Yet again Anderson .Paak 🔥 it 💯
I wanted this to go on for another 20 minutes.
Agreed. I'm on my third listen, so far.
