Ryan....How can anyone get so upset about an idle, harmless, RUclips comment? Jeez you sound like a miserable guy...You're gonna talk about other people's parents when your own very angry, petty comment and apparently negative nature must make YOU the subject of any parent's disappointment Thanks for your brief expression of rage, it said a lot more about you than the harmless comment said about it's author.

Math isn’t about knowledge. It’s logic and understanding.
@@youtubecomments5951 well mine and dvendys logic and understanding of math is quite insignificant.
Blades Santa there are a few types of people when you go to school. The one that doesn’t know the answer and always pretends to know and never ask questions. Those people usually are never good at math. Cause they think knowing is smart and don’t want to be labels dumb so in reality they become dumb. People that are smart never know it all and always ask questions till they understand something. Those people are smart cause they go looking for the right answers and aren’t afraid to look dumb by asking a question.

He loves physics with an ultimate passion
You should watch the joe rogan podcast with him he has to calm himself down multiple times cause he was shouting at joe 😂
He got that dramatic flair from Sagan. You outta check out some of his videos on here.

You're all good buddy, correction squad out!!
Ahhhh the quintessential Neil Degrasse Tyson comment. I knew I'd find the resentment. It's on every comment section. Not "I want to go back to school because of Tyson". Rather "I would have done better in school because of Tyson" Appreciate the teachers you had, and find someone that inspires you to move forward, rather than resent the past. I suggest Elon Musk
That's right, but you see, high school is just baby sitting...so, if you're Mom don't teach you nothing, then all you get is high school.
As a physicist (not an astrophysicist tho), that thing keeping Neil awake at night is indeed something that I could see physicists lose sleep over

@@franksinatra9579 no. The universe is mostly cold and dead. Empty space really. Worm holes and stuff exist only in theory simply because the energy required to create it is unfathomable. Two black holes collided and bent space 3mm. Black holes are not worm holes theyre just a lot of mass, infinitely compressed and if you went in one youd just die lol. And probably the proof of all this is that aliens have never visited us. So even if we somehow miraculously found alien life. Theres just no way to get there in a timely/efficient way. Im sure there are aliens out there that have existed long before us, are way smarter, way technologically advanced and guess what... they havnt made the trip. Or even found us. That's one of the greatest things i've ever heard Neil Degrasse Tyson say. I love thinking about the universe and theories on how it works. I've also thought there are many things we can't see beyond the observable universe, picturing something like Dr. Strange's multiple dimensions as an extreme example. We're so small, it's unlikely that everything we see, i.e galaxies, is all there is in the universe. I pictured it this way, it's very simple: asteroids revolve around planets, planets around stars, stars around black holes that form galaxies, and then what. What comes next... what are galaxies revolving around? There's a good chance every galaxy we see, the observable universe, is all but a small sliver of a bigger galaxy ring that revolves something... many many times more massive than black holes. And whatever that thing is must be what is the providing the majority of force, "gravity", that is missing from the equation of dark matter and energy. And I suspect it keeps going and going, more round things revolving around bigger round things. It might also make sense that we cannot see these massive objects, because they act much like black holes upon light. It's somewhat scary to think about, that everything in our observable universe is only but what our star is to the milk way. But I think it's very likely. When Neil says that astrophysicist don't know the source of gravity, that 80% of it is unaccounted for.. That's interesting to hear, because I was skeptical of celestial body cores being the only source of gravity too. The true universe is an infinite piece puzzle, and we're only 3 pieces in starting somewhere in the middle.
What if the blackness/void of space is just a black hole everything is riding on the surface of?
@@nicholashepburn9381 yeah it could be, but the surface is three dimensional and not flat like ground.

Actually Donald Rumsfeld said basically the same thing back in 2002"
"[T]here are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns-the ones we don't know we don't know."
“We don’t know what we don’t know”… I think that is now my favourite quote
That quote predates Neil by a very long time. It's prominently featured in Nicholas Taleb's 'The Black Swan' and was a common saying of Donald Rumsfield. He referred to it as "unknown unknowns," elaborating upon that saying "there are things we do not know we don't know." It's a fascinating subject.
Einstein said it best: "Not only is the universe stranger than we can imagine; it is stranger than what we Cannot imagine"
CJV842 That’s actually the flaw for someone like Dawkins. He speaks with a certainty, a kind of, this is 100% true as if there is no chance he could be wrong. The we don’t know what stuff we don’t know is a profound philosophical statement. We didn’t know about weather systems until we “discovered” them.
It means that someone like Dawkins can say there is no god, but the truth is that no one can say with 100% certainty that there is or there isn’t
So he can’t label you as deluded if you say there is because he can’t prove his point.
Proper, honest scientists like Tyson will admit there is stuff we don’t know, and that we don’t realise we don’t know it.
Others are just playing at science.
Dawkins actually said there is probably no God. He never said he couldn't be wrong.

Yes, because we as humans have agreed on having calendars and have taken time zones into account, so what's the big deal ? A "year", "month", "minutes", "seconds" are all terms that are man-made. So hence to what we call a "year", it is ending or starting differently depending on which time zone (also man made) you're in.
beatz04 the point Neil was trying to make is that New Years is when the earth completes it's orbit around the sun, so technically everyone should celebrate when the planet reaches that point, it's silly we rely on the time of day

The idea that the universe evolved from something that we cannot see beyond our own horizon is awesome. What came before the universe? Was there ever a beginning to anything? How many universes are there? The vastness of the cosmos is terrifying.

Man, worrying about astronomical bodies becoming so distant they are practically isolated in all of space and here I'm just glad I got the elephant reference.
What's the reference?
TheSquirrelyGhost If I remember it from English I think it’s an analogy for describing things you don’t know with things you do. I think there’s a story where three blind men find an elephant, and one touches its leg and thinks it’s a tree trunk, and the other touches it’s tail and thinks it’s a broom or something, and they all try to describe what the elephant is only using their past knowledge of what it feels like. Apparently in the story the men begin to fight over which person is right, and I guess the moral of the story is to understand that you may only have partial information, and to accept that others may be able to broaden your own partial knowledge with their partial knowledge.
TheSquirrelyGhost, it's an Indian parable as 7ristan describes: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blind_men_and_an_elephant

@Deuel Ellan Yes it is. Why do you deny science?
Simboo show me the proof, there's no proof. Our way of measuring that it is expanding is flawed. We are using triangulation on such a large scale that we are getting false readings
There is no proof? There are thousands and thousands of studies that prove that the universe is expending and with all the data collected, by using simple maths, the scientists have demonstrated without a doubt that this expension is accelerating. James liar? Lol. I have trouble believing the comments here praising this drop the mic disgrace Tyson. He is and never been a scientist. Even Wikipedia tells us this. He was a dancer , now he is an actor. He is I. My mind a pos liar . People, this guys number one job is promoting space nonsense
Woah, stop with the conspiracy cocktail there man, its damage your brain.
@Victor Gibson have you ever seen an alien dude?
Now, that's a stable genius.
Peter Griffin I'm dead..... Haaaa
Peter Griffin congrats on this reference, serious.
jbberinger Agree.
Genius, sure. Stable, debatable.
Didn't see anything stable or genius about this guy.
wow...
I knew that the acceleration of the universe would someday render much of what we currently see unviewable, but the thought that something might have been in the past but now gone to us today...
why i love so much this man he has what a positive energy
" We don't know, what we don't know." ~ Neil Degrasse Tyson
I have a new phobia now...
Hitendra singh thats sorta the idea behind cosmic horror, it’s worth looking into if you’re interested!
ruclips.net/video/F2iocQKdUKI/видео.html contrary to popular belief the scientific community has been disputing the helocentric model for centuries
Picture Neil Degrasse Tyson late at night sitting on the edge of his bed in his underwear contemplating the course of the universe.
"With power did We construct the heaven. Verily, We are Able to extend the vastness of space thereof." Quran 51/57
That overexcited “POPE!” At 4:06 killed me
"We dont know what we dont know"
Thats so easy and deep at the same time.
Alternative title: Neil degrasse Tyson and Stephen Colbert interrupt each other for 9 minutes straight
Neil is like the cool uncle that you shoot b-ball with while chatting about universe-edge and quantum physics.
At the edge of the universe is God's firmament dome, which Neil knows nothing about because he is a pseudoscientist who just makes things up and he is completely ignorant of the Bible and everything about the universe --- all of which vehemently contradicts the Satanic lies that Neil pushes.
True Christian lop your people wrote the bible before they knew what the sun even was or where it went at night XD
True Christian bahahaha oh man that's funny
What an odd president to choose
Joshua Hammond you're not serious, right? lol
A society that has no sight of galaxies other than our own, will soon come to believe that those galaxies are only myths from the dark ages of earths history.
Oh shit... That may mean (bear with me here) that a lot or at least some of the mythology from the past isn't mythology and it's something that was there and we just have no reason to believe it's there.
Like they'll look at our writings and stuff about galaxies and be like "wtf that's bullshit" and that might be what we're doing today,
Chuck Anderson doesn’t that just blow your mind...
joke's on you, the galaxies will be around much longer than Earth will! The sun will turn Earth into a charred rock long before the universe expands enough for other galaxies to disappear from sight.
@Truth trying to start some shit are we? lol
That'll be in like 100m years. Hopefully we'll figure things out by then lol
Just realized he sounds like a smarter Seth Rogan. He’s an inspiration though for sure loved his books.
LOVE BOTH THESE DUDES SO MUCH:) LAT MIN OF THIS ... BADABING !!! :):):)
Literally HIS BEST GUEST
Use sunblock.
We don't know what we don't know - Neil DeGrasse Tyson, 2018.
Eric Joseph this should be carved in stone
this has been explained before.
there's "known knowns"; things we know we know. "known unknowns"; things we know we don't know. 'unknown unknowns"; things we don't know we don't know. and "unknown known"; things we don't know we know.
But Mr Tyson reduced and simplified very well here. short and sweet.
thats not a very profound statement if you think it is
Word. Too many people spew shit on things they know nothing about.
swat22camden if you have a simple mindset it’s not all that amazing. But if it’s your job to question the fundamental nature of the universe everyday. Something like that does keep you up.
I like how towards the end Stephen acted like he understood what Neil was saying
What makes you think he didn’t?
3:41 his laugh is like a puppy bark
Love Neil DeGrasse Tyson, this is what a truly intelligent person sounds like. He is able to explain a very complex subject matter at a level that can be understood by the masses. Not once did he say "I'm like a smart person."
BRENDA VIGEANT I hate neil degrasse tyson
KING FERF Nobody gives a fuck
I can confirm that no fucks have been given
"I'm like a really smart person and a very stable genius"
LIKE REALLY SMART OK. Check IQ meter, yup over 9000!
Neil is such a ray of sunshine c:
C
Which is why he's so burned
He should have talked about false vacuum. Talk about losing sleep.
Have you heard any of his audiobook narration? Not only is he a terrible author, but he's even worse narrating. Not joking. Stay far, far away.
Tiia Mannix screw Neil
Neil, that is an interesting thought.
Another one is:
What happens to the collective of photons that are furthest away in the boundaries in the galaxy? Do they lose energy and eventually cease to exists? Do they just stop?
6:55 Just a timestamp for me to start listening to again and again
Here's how you win at charades with his name.
Get on your knees, mime the grass growing from the floor, and then bite off someone's ear.
It's charades, doesn't matter.
3rc Th1 It's Charades instructions, you might've misread.
"Kneel, Da Grass, Tyson." Wordplay, very fun, gotta love it.
Bloose. You're the fucking idiot. Grab a dictionary dumbass.
Bloose ye Oh dear. You blew that one mate.
New Message Is 'person' a Charades category? I get the joke, but I remember only the mimes 4 movie & book.
I love how he seems on coke, but really he is just too smart to keep up with the speed of his thoughts using words.
Science coke is the best kind of coke.
I understood everything he said I was this kid in school I talked fast asf too where I would confuse teachers
@@travisk6221 I don't know if this is the same but I can't write my theories with a pen and paper. I can't write fast enough. Once the thought is out it is gone.
If I use a keyboard I can keep up and write it all down.
The weird thing is that I seldom know what I wrote until I read it afterward.
Can't it be both?
He can't handle the dopamine his body produces 😂
He once said. Not knowing the answers to the mysteries of the universe is bad enough. But not knowing what questions to ask is worse. ..thats a very profound thing to say if you think about it
A very astute and clever man
Why isn't anyone complimenting his tie 😭😭🖤
He is, as we say in the UK, a national treasure.
I think a universal treasure would be more accurate.
And also as we say in the US. And probably anywhere else that speaks english...
ouch.
In Brazil we say "monstro sagrado" that translates to "sacred monster"
He is not from your nation.
