Hi Jacqueline, the vegetable shortening really has no taste at all. BTW, when you buy cookies at the grocery store, 99% of them use shortening, and the reason being, it's a fat that refuses to go "off", it's inexpensive to use, and also it gives cookies a very chewy texture ( more than butter ) Thanks so much for watching ! 😊

Baking powder and baking soda are very different. Baking soda is bicarbonate of soda. It is also much more powerful than baking powder. Hi Barbra, I'm guessing so. For those reading this, lard is 100% animal fat, vs vegetable shortening which is derived 100% from plants. The choice really is yours. I know down south in the United States many swear by using lard only for their southern biscuits. It's a staple for many food and people. In the end, it really depends on what you enjoy.
@@BakeLikeAPro Today's society is really missing out on the ways lard made a great ingredient in some items. Tortillas and biscuits for sure. Then again, for awhile there they had us convinced that margarine was healthier than butter. A little yellow toxic byproduct on your pancakes!
