    It can be so easy to change trash into a useful machine. With all the environmental pollution mad by things, which were thrown away, it is great to repair those machines. I'm only 48 years old, but my parents show me, to use things in a proper way to keep them useful as long as it could be. And it is sometimes so easy. And if it isn't possible to repair them, you can make some wonderful decorations with a little bit of paint, wood and so on. Thank you for your video

      I have done this on numerous occasions. My table saw motor has been rebuilt. It is over 50 years old. Replaced brushes on my router several times. I also have several circular saws for over 40 years old. I find the old tools are often better than the new ones.

      Yes, all the old tools have brushes and usually they are fairly easy to change. Thank you very much.

    I’ve got this exact saw and mine is just over 20 years old. It’s still running well, but now I know how to replace the brushes when the time comes. These old 5150s are great tools and are built like tanks. Awesome and very informative video. Thank you!

    Very informative as I myself have an abundance of older powered hand tools. Have your Son take you out for dinner with the money you saved him.

    I would have used a Q-tip and some carburetor clear to clean the commutator before re-assembling it.

    excellent video. I think this is the issue with my 25 year old saw.

      Most likely it is the brushes and second and less likely the bearing will wear out.

      @@PawPawsWorkShop Thanks for your reply. if the bearing wears out will that prevent it from starting? or even attempting to start? I do nto use the saw much but in the last few months a couple times it sounded like something was rattling a bit ... so I thought of the bearing ... but then it would sound ok again. then when the saw would absolutely nto start at all I thought it is not getting juice ... ala the brushes. Is it fairly easy to replace the bearing? or is a machine press required? or is it not replaceable at all?

      I found a video on replacing a bearing on a different model I will check it out. I have ordered the brushes so will install those.

    I am 63 years old, unfortunately we have been lead to be a throwaway Society! Replace rather then repair! However the manufacturing industry supports replacement.

    How did you determine that all it needed was new brushes?

    • @PawPawsWorkShop
      @PawPawsWorkShop  4 года назад

      Nine times out of ten it is either the brushes or the cord. When I opened up the motor and saw the condition of the housing, I knew. Then the one brush fell into my hand. Dead giveaway. Thank you very much.
