That’s a crazy situation, Phil. I’m aghast that the owner didn’t complain about any differential sounds. Just bizarre……..we all have those days, though.
Wow! As soon as you showed the diff cover removed, the first thing I saw was the loose ring gear bolt (on the bottom). Someone had to have been in there before. This job just got real expensive for the customer. Thanks for sharing!
Awesome work. Thanks for sharing. I've got an '08 F250 SD that was struck by lightning and I'm going through it replacing control modules and sensors up the yingyang and now I know why my resistance test on the new rear abs wheel sensor shows 0.L, and A/C voltage sensor test with wheels spinning shows 0.0volts, lol. ABS Module is fried and speedo is inoperable - does the ABS run the speedo, or does the trans output speed sensor run the speedo...? 🤔
That's a good question and the answer is depends on the vintage. On this one the speedo still worked without the rear differential speed sensor so I would have to assume the speed signal for the speedo is from the transmission output speed sensor.
That's some rabbit hole of broken parts.

Misinformation will get you everytime. It sucks for sure. Atleast you found the diff problems before it got worse. Cheers

Yes there are several loose and at least one broken. Going to disassemble tomorrow evaluate it better.
All that brutal misinformation will drive the best mechanics nuts! Keep up the good fight Phil
Wow frustrating...great work!

Figured it’d sound like an old heat riser flapping around
