It’s honestly the best thing seeing people break character. It’s genuine laughter and that’s what makes this skit gold. I will never not laugh at this.

I CANT HAVE CHILDREN
she purposefully looks around before breaking the news to provoke them even more. it's just beyond repair at that point and therefore pure comedy gold!

Oh my God what an all time great joke and delivery. That was perfect.
The "I can't have children" line hit way harder than it was probably originally intended. That drop was so freakin' funny, I can't stop laughing.
BUT ITS OFFICIAL!! Jimmy Fallin never said a word but he cracked me up trying to hold character
Waww waww wah wah wahhhhhw
Might be the hardest I've ever laughed for any SNL sketch. Whoever wrote that line is a comic legend. The effect on the room and Dratch was seismic.
@@astropioneer3296 I agree but I don’t think he expected them to loose character. Lol

The fact they are all supposed to be getting progressively more miserable, but instead are getting progressively more hysterical with laughter, adds another layer to it being hilarious. They accidentally made this way more funny than what they intended. Love it.
Completely disagree ... once again jimmy fallon stuffs up another skit by annoyingly constantly laughing ... the worst mistake on two legs hosting late night ... give me Conan pre - trump era any day ... but now .....Conan and every late night host isn’t funny anymore...they’re all poisoned by Hollywood leftist woke ideologies....

I saw an interview once where Rachel Dratch, who had just started on SNL, said she was afraid she’d be fired after this sketch because she broke character so many times.
No Rachel, it’s the sketch that singlehandedly made you an SNL icon
Especially since every Debby Downer sketch ended up with everyone breaking 😂 she killed that role
Not denying she was afraid of breaking character but this episode aired in 2004 which was 5 seasons into her being there
@@dothebartman9156 possible it was another Debbie Downer sketch, even though I was thinking this was the original. I saw the interview a while back so I may not have the details exactly right.
@@chrisstiles374 You're correct this is the first one. But to your point she could have very well still been afraid of being fired, even if not brand new to the cast.
She definitely had an interview where she spoke of her fear of being fired because of this sketch. But its clear that Jimmy Fallon triggered it and and everyone else in this sketch also broke character. It would have been crazy for them to fire her without firing somebody else first.
This is one of the rare situations where I think character breaking makes the sketch better. I can't help but laugh no matter how many times I have watched this video.
I’ve never laughed so hard at someone saying “I can’t have children” in my life😂

This skit is absolutely one of the best that was ever filmed! Her face, tiny little frame somber voice is what sold it the most
One of the funniest moments ever on the show. Legend has it that when they rehearsed the skit they didn't have the "womp womp" sound effect to practice with so it caught then off guard in the live show. And we all reap the benefits. Carol Burnett level funny!
Everything came together perfectly on this skit: the actors and Disney characters in the background, the trombone sound effects, Rachel’s perfect timing and hilarious facial mugging, the writing, and the failed attempts of the players to stay in character-all made for what might just be the funniest 6 minutes in the history of SNL.
That's a really cool for a fact if it's true
Well said re the Carol Burnett level.
That makes so much sense cause the laughs would come after or during
That happened a lot on SNL. In the "Matt Foley" sketch the table wasn't supposed to break when Chris Farley (who was infamous for trying to crack up his castmates on live TV) jumped on it. In "Massive Headwound Harry" a crew member added baby food to Dana Carvey's massive headwound makeup so the dog would start eating it!
The most glorious train wreck of a skit ever...if the current situation has got you down, just watch this!
The first Californians is pretty good too, i'd definitely recommend for that

Rachel said they had no problem at all during rehearsal but for some reason they absolutely could not keep it together live. Rachel was very good at not breaking character, that's why I laughi hysterically at this sketch.
I thought this was dress 🤣. Makes it even funnier that it was live
This skit was hysterical. All time great
from what I read (cast members, writers themselves) it's all because Rachel Dratch (who played Debbie Downer) made the mistake of saying that the North Korean media was so "sensitive" instead of so secretive (which is what the script was written her to say), which she did not mistake in saying all week and in dress rehearsal, it was at THAT point (when it was live) where the blooper and cast breaking character started
@@Etobeeshawn Really? I can't believe you know all that. I'm glad you sent that so now I know more about this skit. It's so freakin hilarious.
They added the trumpet (woomp woomp) live, which they didn't use in rehearsal. Took them all by suprise, hench the breaking of character 😄
Edit: grammar.
4:45 is my favorite part. she wants to turn away and laugh but remembers she has to make the face and its a very funny forced expression. comedic gold
Quick shout out to the Trombone player for being the other half of this sketch. Those "wop wop's" were so well timed and played y him. Especially that beautiful short one that made Rachel break a second time.

Love that around 4:54 Lindsay looks at Fred to get a cue as to when to deliver her line (he's right next to her, calm, steady, and better at reading live crowds) - you can just see her mouth "now?" and he gives a little nod. Teamwork for the win!

amy cracked a few times. the real challenge would be getting will forte to crack. try looking up the spelling bee sketch and be amazed how he goes on and on without breaking the slightest smile.
Forget Amy Poehler, how are the other people in the background not losing it?
This is one of the best snl skits of all time
They all knew "I can't have children" was coming, and the anticipation just killed them all. The extra two seconds she held onto the line was cruel. She knew exactly what she was doing.
What? Rachel delivered that line stumbling in pieces of all the broken characters of that skit... stop being unrealistically dramatic. The cast was obviously laughing about the situation.
@@redacted2275 jesus nobody died, take a chill pill and relax
@@redacted2275 Thank you Debbie Downer!
@@redacted2275 I bet you are the life of the party
Yea, it seems clear to me at 4:28 that Jimmy Fallon is looking over at Rachel Dratch as if to say, "how on earth are you going to get your next line out?"
Rachel Dratch was such an under rated member of SNL
Nice bod, too
Yes, Klobuchar
She was great in Colonel Angus too.
She was totally underutilized at SNL. Her facial expressions are gold lol
This validates how long Mr. Kenan Thompson has been on SNL
Keenans been on there since the beginning of time.
You remember him on that show All That?
@@willn8664
I never watched it, but I remember it.
@@willn8664 I do I Love him and All that I am 35 and even as a kid I always thought he be great on SNL lol !
Right! I just commented that he’s been on the show for 15 years. Everyone else in this sketch has moved on from SNL.
9 years ago this was posted and I still come back and watch it😂
I love how at 4:23, Jimmy Fallon starts smiling because he knows the, “By the way it’s official, I can’t have children” line is coming 😂😂😂😂
The long pause as Rachel tried to collect herself really added to the delivery too!
Good observation!
Yeah, the moment Dratch says, "it's official," Fallon's face is perfect.
he started smiling because he has no talent as an actor.
@@brianlacroix822 Wrong. There are many things that can go wrong in a shoot. It could have been the fact that they are around children, talking about Children's World and adult topics. It could have been the camera man's reactions. :D
lmfaooooo at the fact that they could not stop laughing
CurtisDonDeano same lmfaoo
That made it so much funny
CurtisDonDeano ...
I couldn't stop laughing. Every time I saw Jimmy Fallon cracking up I'd bust out laughing
Why? Nothing was funny. Cocaine?
Amy mentioned this in her book as one of her favorites sketches.
MissBananaHappy im gonna have to find the book just so i can see what she said about it
She said that she watches it when she's feeling down. I do the same. It always makes me laugh in tears. It's just the best.
I had to come back to this after Pedro Pascal last night and I still love this one too! I love when SNL characters break. It's comedy gold!
"By the way". Sets up one of the funniest deliveries on SNL.
For almost a decade I’ve been saying “it’s official”
This skit is 16 years old and I literally cannot watch it without crying laughing. God bless the magic of this skit.
this is one of those rare snl sketches that someone else broke character by laughing before jimmy fallon , in this case it was rachel dretch!
This sketch lives rent free in my heart.
Amen brother, always!!
Aired in 2004 but looking like the 90’s
Slomofogo who’s going to make me? Your mom? You’d have to leave the basement to even tell her.
I was thinking the same thing when i watched this! 🤣😂
cause its not HD and 4:3. year later snl would be in HD
Fun Fact: A previous decade's style of dress takes DECADES to go away.
@@ultimatehistoryofcgi8897 Has nothing to do with screen format. What people are seeing are things like hair style, the guy's pants on the left at the table (don't know the comedian's names).
One member breaks during a skit... its hilarious, whole cast... its legendary.
the guy wiping his tears away with a mickey mouse waffle is a whole mood
His name is Horatio Sanz. Yeah.
faith spam Horatio Sanz
What’s the time stamp on this? I watched it twice but must’ve missed it!
nfgatorgal 6:33
@@nfgatorgal 05:15 when Lindsay Lohan has a line. I missed it too because I was bussy looking at her.
"By the way, it's official....I can't have children" is easiest one of the funniest moments in SNL history.
LOL
it seems like they knew it was coming, AND they knew there was no way she was going to be able to deliver it without laughing. it was doomed in such a great way.
Jimmy Fallon lost it completely.
This was the best Debbie Downer ever lmao
Charles Russell And it was the first one
Nah the Ben Affleck one was
They just couldn't keep it together xD
They couldnt even pull off the skit. Only Fred A was professional
1k like
You can see the crisis at @1:46. The trombone sound and glaring down the lens was way too funny. It was like “I’m gonna crack with this and there’s nothing I can do about it.”
"I can't have children" gets me every time.
ytmndan it’s because this goes deeper into absurdity by the minute. By this moment you’ve lost it
It’s official
God, Amy Poehler just staring at her waffles trying not to make eye-contact is hysterical
Something Leslie Knope would do lol
Personally, I got the impression she is doing the opposite. Looks like
she is not letting anyone see how unfunny this all is to her. Fred Armisen too.
+Maidros Fëanoron Personally, I think you're alone in that opinion. Both Poehler and Arisen did their best out of everyone at not breaking character.
No hes not. Poehler and Arisen are like Ferrell, they are pros. Fallon, Dratch & Sanzs do this on every skit from the time period. Especially Fallon & Sanzs. Its still funny to you after they do this time & again, skit after skit after skit. Good for you then but it pisses me off. Its so contrived.
+Captain Chinook Well, the point where Pluto bolts will always get me. And, "I can't have children"- regardless of who did or didn't break character, or whether it was a common occurrence. Agree to disagree.
Horatio is dripping tears from trying to hold his laugh
as all
He even wiped his tears with one of the waffles 😂
Fallon was worse.
Horatio Sanz using his waffles as a tissue is my favorite thing he does in this skit. He probably figured 'fuck it! I can't reach my eyes with my sleeves!"
I was the 666th like...
That was filmed 20 years ago. Today Kenan looks exactly the same.
Black dont crack
Orrrrr he’s always looked middle aged 😅
