I've had a miltoniopsis for a couple of years and it just stayed green w no blooms. Last year I retired and was actually able to have more time to learn and care for my orchids. This year it surprised me with 2 spikes and blooms. I know it's not a lot, but it's something😋
I know this is an older video, but I just found this today when seeking information about my new miltoniopsis. Your method of placing the media around the roots prior to shoving in the pot sure looks like a great idea. I will be trying this when I repot! Thank you.
I saw this type of orchid in white and pink at the NY Botanical Garden orchid show this Spring and fell in love with it. It's nice to know what mixture to use for repotting. Thank you for your videos!
I'm glad you stick w the tried and true potting mixes. I see people potting in water culture and seramis. If that makes them happy, then good for them. If my orchids are happy in bark, that's enough for me.
I really like your “new” way of repotting the Miltoniopsis. Of course this was several years ago but I am branching out my “research” on how different folks do things.
Thanks Graeme and thank you for your Patreon support as well. I really appreciate it. It you ever have any questions, suggestions or want to chat, msg me over there anytime. All the best, Brad
I've been trying a similar method with orchids types that need a more 'complete' media base with no gaps. Types with big thick roots like catts, I use just large bark, repot with the media dry and just let it fall 'where it lands', tap the pot to settle it and if there are gaps I know that often the roots head for the gaps so no worries. With the finer rooted orchids your method makes sure there are no gaps. I have tried potting 'upside down' - I pack the media under the base (like you've just done) and then hold some around the edge but I hold the orchid upside down and put the pot over the top. Not so easy with just two hands but this way, I don't see so much media fall away as the orchids goes in the pot. Good repotting vid - will be great for those a bit 'worried' about their miltoniopsis.
Hi Brad, I just purchased from an Orchid Show a Burrageara Sunkissed Buttercup and feel the need to repost. It has two blooming spikes with total of 10 flowers. I like the method with your Miltonopsis which is part parent to my flower. So I may try this method for more moisture for my plant. Thank you, JoAnn
Hi Brad. Can you please tell us when the best time to separate a Miltoniopsis, how many bulbs should you allow to be in a pot? I have one with 4-5 bulbs. It's blooming now after I repotted it a couple of months ago. Next repot, I wonder if I should separate the bulbs? Thank you!
I liked that, don’t know if I can do that. My hands are small. I will try some day not yet. I have two Miltonia Vexillaria. One I got at end of winter in bloom, looks like yours & still in bloom but fading soon. The flowers are dying one by one, turn black on edges of flowers. I don’t know if that is normal. The other is a white one, it was in full buds, but the buds are not opening. But buds are dying off.
I have been using a similar method to repot when using a moss-bark combination. I use my moss a bit damp so the bark and perlite stick to it a bit. I start with bark in the center to keep that area from staying too moist. Then I bring the moss around it quickly. Nice video!!
I'm curious if you have ever soaked the moss and bark mixture first and then repotted it. When I do my other orchids, I always soak the bark first then repot. It seems to really help.
Brad I have a Miltoniaopsis and I have beautiful roots nothing left no bulbs or leaves the roots and the last dead pseudo bulbs is now in water culture do you know if there a chance of a leaf growing up from the roots it’s a Frans jewels Od appreciate anything you might know I just want it to live so much but I’m a realist and I can’t see that it has a chance. But I have hope. Help?
Useful informative video! ... I always failed with Miltoniopsis and it's been quite a few years since I gave my last try! Maybe I'll try again as soon as I find a cheap plant :) Thanks for sharing!
You need to check the temperature and climate requirements for miltoniopsis and compare it with what you have at your location. It is a fussy orchid. i stick with cattleyas, dendrobiums and some of the wild orchids we have here.
Hello Brad, I have a miltoniopsis red Picardie in flower right now. I’m wondering about the large amount of sphagnum moss that you are using, in my environment (a condo in Canada) , the sphagnum would stay sopping wet for several days. Isn’t that bad? The pot looks like a 3inch, do miltoniopsis like to be cramped up like that? Thanks ,I really like your videos, you are obviously a miltoniopsis expert and I appreciate your sharing your knowledge.
Thank you for your video!!! I was struggling with my Miltoniopsis Orchid. Didn't know why it didn't do so well. Because I re-pot it in a wrong media. I will try to use your method!!!
Is it possible to grow it in home environment? I just love them so much but they do not grow well.. I guess its too hot and dry.. Or I don't make the right bark mix or I don't water it correctly? Any tips appreciated... My average room temps are +22..24°C and 47%,max 52% humidity.. In winter more drier side and summer more humid..
Hi, I need help with Lycaste aromatica x cruenta. Since you have been growing L. aromatica for several years now, do you know if they kill off their old roots like cattleyas when you repot them? And how many years these roots live? It's just that I am about to repot this newly acquired Lycaste and I wouldn't like having to rerepot it. Thanks very much in advance. :)
I had asked a question 2 months with no answer. once the flowers fall off, and say the branch turns brown. Do you cut it off? or let it stay dead. the leaves are healthy, and growing a new one. I have 3 orchid plants, and I did cut the branch off one. Does it grow another one ever?
Hi Brad, I just want to ask, do you know anyone who sells Miltonia Sunset? I have a friend who is coming here in Singapore next month (December) who wants to handed me orchids that I want, so I'm now searching someone who sell and ship it to her place in Florida. As well as the deep purple Zygo or any variety of Odontodia. Do you have any recommendations? Thanks in advance.
I just buy it a militoniopsis orchid ( under the name Miltonia Orchid) but it had a wispy mold/fungus on the top of the soil but also on the roots poking through the holes at the bottom of the plastic. I make it a habit taking in all the infected or sick orchids and plants that would be tossed away. This one is a beautiful plant (multiple plants) and is in bloom... one large opened and others sprays are in buds. Can you please please please help me. I can send pictures if you like
Спасибо Вам за фильм!!!!!,по Вашему методу посадила свой Мильтаниопсис,буду надеяться что с ним будет все хорошо.........Перевод не знаю,но действия фильма наглядно и все понятно.Спасибо.!!!
hi brada can you use lava rock for orchid I leave in south florida and with the hot weather we have here I water them a lot right now I have them in bark im scare of root roat with so much water
you can basically water daily as long as you allow them to fully drain. do NOT try to water them in a ceramic pot with no drainage holes. sitting in standing water rots orchids very fast. they are tropical plants and love daily 'rain storms'. but you must let them drain properly
@@BradsGreenhouse I just did! It wasn t as much splattery as I thought! 😊 I want to repot a new miltasia that shows some signs of root rot and wondering about what kind of media. To be honest I m very negative about sphagnum cause it seems to stay always soggy when indoors.

That was such a useful video and I will come back to it when my militoniopsis need repotting. Thank you Brad, love your videos!
Enjoyed your video. I like the way you show and tell us what to do. I’m going to watch more of your orchid videos.

Thats a really BEAUTIFUL Miltoniopsis Orchid :-) Thanks so much for sharing Brad and have a FANTASTIC week ahead XXXX
I'd always been a bit wary of caring for orchids, but videos like this help a lot. Thank you.
That is one beautiful Miltoniopsis, I will see if our local growers have any, love it.
Thanks Graeme and thank you for your Patreon support as well. I really appreciate it. It you ever have any questions, suggestions or want to chat, msg me over there anytime.
All the best,

In fact, I already messaged you earlier today. Lol
Glad to be a patron mate, you have so much knowledge that i have put into practice in my own greenhouse, thank you Brad.
Love your orchid

Thanks Wade, I agree the bark in the middle would be safer. All the best!
what kind of fertilizer you had used ?
Thanks Wade for sharing. When time to repot, I will try your method. I just bought 4 baby Miltonia Orchids.
That's a beautiful orchid. I need one in my life 😂😂
Love your method very smart!

It’s it at risk of rotting with so much moss?

Could you tell us how you set up your utilities
Or send me a link to the vid because I can't find it
Never mind

Verochka, ya toje hochu poprobovat' tak posadit'. Kak vash Miltoniopsis? Vi uje posadili takim metodom?
impressive, thanks
i will try that! i have 1 that just need to be repottet, so thx.
Hey brad please tell me where you got your sphagnum moss
The best place to find sphagnum in larger quantities is online. I buy mine from ebay.
Ha, ha, I do exactly the same repotting method!!
The audio sounded better without the Bluetooth microphone. Cool vid
I agree about the Mic, sure is simple... But the sound isn't as good 😞
+Brads Greenhouse & Gardening yeah I noticed the audio was a bit rough.
hi brada can you use lava rock for orchid I leave in south florida and with the hot weather we have here I water them a lot right now I have them in bark im scare of root roat with so much water
A lot of people use lava rock as part of their mix or all by itself. I am going to pot up some orchids in pure lava rock tomorrow.

Thanks for the tutorial. But, I'm really sorry, the sound is just AWFUL :((
