I had just updated my external drive with ALL my pictures going to 2 generations back. Then, I bumped the table and the external drive fell on carpet. But still the needle or whatever got busted. It gave a rattling sound like scratching the disk. It will take, starting at $700 to $1,300, to fix it without guarantee. Luckily, when it comes to pictures, I believe in redundancy. Lucky for me, I only need to retrieve 2019 & 2020 that live in the cloud. This tutorial saved my wallet.
Thanks! This was very helpful. Google is going to be deleting pictures beginning 6/1/2021 if you aren't a regular user of your account. So that was my motivation for searching for a way to download them and I found your video. I followed your instructions and was sent a zip file to my "downloads" file called "takeout-....zip"

I down load from my phone to an external driver. I don't like the cloud but it save 2 years in pictures. You can't modify or play with the pictures as easy as when it on your drive. If it's sync does it override your modify pic as well or creates a new one with each save? I don't trust a computer using face recognition so easily.
I did that, and my pictures were all renamed to their order as to how they were downloaded from their zip file, and their timestamps all changed to the day they were unzipped from the gmail link. I'm PISSED.

After you click on the attachment link, I would think it goes to your "Download" folder on your computer hard drive. Then you can move them to a photos or documents file.

i have 186gb of photos. I used takeout to download all of them. It took time, because it breaks it into 2gb files. But once i downloaded everything, they are in a .tgz file format. But they are mixed in with metadata, and other stuff. How do i extract only the photos to save on my hard drive?
My exports ( have tried 5 times) have ONLY copied the same 14 photos, over & over. I have over 19 K pictures. It did send 22 files but, every one was the same 14 pics. Ugh. Not sure whats going on.( My computer is 2 T, so the space is not an issue
On some pictures you lose the date and location data. It’s very annoying. I have failed migrating from Google Photo to ICloud photo. I wish it was straight forward as just downloading and uploading.

@@sebastianmurillobarrientos3449 Yes, basically i had to put every single photo i had (1000+) into one folder. Then its just a case of exporting that one folder onto your pc.
There is a way to separate the meta data from the pictures. Look for a button at the top of the file that says kind, click and see you can arrange by file type. So arrange all the meta data together and then select all of it and delete. Cleans it all up in no time.
I don't want to download my photos that are in Google Cloud to my Google Drive? because that most likely is the Cloud. I want to download from the Google Cloud to my laptop so I know my photos are protected. They were uploaded from my android phone as a safe guard and backup, but i can't find the Gallery or Image folder where the internal phone photos are. (Since then I send all photos to my SD card which also puts them to the Google Cloud) First I am trying to get my photos off internally from my phone so I can delete them off my phone to give me more space (only have 8 gigs that came with phone and about 4.5 gigs are used for phone functioning and preinstalled), so I need to free up space by some means so I can have a few apps I need on my phone.) But I also want to backup on my computer hard drive all photos in Google Cloud. One last question, are the photos taken using my android phone have more data or pixels to them (larger files) than after they are uploaded to the Cloud? Or are they converted (like with Facebook) and have less data/pixels?

The main reason for downloading or achieving your photos is because you have "a lot" of photos. Your first comment is, if you have a lot of photos this won't work. GEEEZ!!!
Sorry, I have trouble for following your steps. IF you just use a google photo containing three pictures. Show us step by step of how to transfer them OUTSIDE GOOGLE without saying too many thing between each step. Then it will be lot easier for me , and may be many other viewers to following you. Because you were saying many things between each step , I lost track of what should be done in each step. This is my feedback to you. Other people may not have this issue.

yes, on file explorer use the scroll wheel and scroll down and the image should be visible when its loaded
