Valor Bard makes for a great Spellbow.

Just wanted to say, and some others may have said it: Tasha's doesn't nullify all of the first part. It only nullifies that for spellcasting allies. For your barbarian who just scored a brutal critical, bladelock going for the kill, rogue going for the kill, etc; the bonus damage is still applicable with valor bard where it's not with any other bard since these are Weapon damage not spell damage.
That being said, damage/healing increasing is probably one of the weaker ways (unless its for a critical) to spend bardic inspiration. Not terrible but a lot more niche than AC boosting, passing a saving throw, or nailing a difficult skill check or getting just enough to actually hit the bugger.
Ultimately its up to that ally how they spend it, but it allows you to increase your martial ally damage where Tasha's does not!

Oh, im also building a spellbow using this subclass and Scout Rogue. The character is a yokai poisoner (hexblood) so my main spell is bane or faerie fire with the Poisoner feat being a signature. The plan is to pass out inspirations when needed to boost allies so they can keep the attention off of me and to be applying bane and poison to enemies so they have a harder time hitting allies, with the ally also being able to AC boost if they need to. If all goes well after turn 1 of setup it comes out to enemies getting -1d4 to hit, ally getting +1d6 to AC if they need it, and enemy having disadvantage to hit if the poison stuck :)

The College of Valor Bard is very similar to the Red Mage from most Final Fantasy games. A jack of all trades, master of none, especially with the seemless switching from magic to swordplay!

I love valor bards. I think they are often underrated.

For sure. Simple doesn't mean the same thing as bad. I like it for the ease of use but also meaningful ways it boosts the base Bard

Valor Bard ended up being my fave bard :) although it's hard deciding against going Lore for obvious reasons. I'm excited to learn what your opinion on the Mantle of Whispers feature, as I see it as absolutely incredible

Magical Inspiration only works for magic damage. Combat Inspiration only works for weapon damage. So only Valor Bards can guarantee extra damage regardless of the source.

Wanna completely blow swords bards out of the water even at lvl14? Use one of your magical secrets picks to take booming blade and combine it with battle magic.
Its free like the masters flourish but deals much more damage as you get your base weapon damage + booming blade damage + another weapon attack as a bonus action.
Now your inspiration is superior to swords bards AND you deal way more damage than a swords bard could ever hope to do for free on top of having the luxury of using a shield.

I feel like there are many ways to blow Swords out of the water lol. But yeah this works pretty well

@@DapperSnapperGaming And yet the myth of swords bard being one of the best bard subclasses persists. If I had to rank them, first place would go to eloquence, second to lore. Swords would be nowhere near the top 3.

I mean if you look at my others, this one isn't nearly as effective as the others
