what i find very sad is that a lot of younger people have never even heard of dr hook and the saddest part is that they don't know what the hell they are missing they were such a great band so many great songs when your in love with a beautiful woman sylvias mother cover of the rolling stone and so many many more
I first heard these guys over 50 years ago on a juke box in Austria, where I visited every summer, growing up. My mother was Austrian. I still get goose bumps when ever I hear the opening riff to Sylvie's Mother. Wow fantastic !
Thats a great first show! I always play the "Who's your first concert" game with people. And ive never heard Dr. Hook, so we'll done! Mine is Hall and Oates.
Was a mid-teenage kid, living and working on a ranch and my best friend (my parents were his guardian) and I would literally be stoned every day and jam on Dr. hook…had to be stoned to move sprinkler pipe, pick rock, drive Steiger tractors, plowing, disc’ing, harrowing, planting, harvesting…being “stoned” was a much needed coping mechanism. 🤘🤘🤘🤘
I am sorry. My faith tells me that you will see him again. And this time there will never be another separation. It will be no more pain or tears or thirst or hunger. All things will be made new. Until that day please try to find peace and love and solace in the promises made to us.
God, I suddenly felt tears at the reality it's been nearly 50 years since this song...where did all that time go. The World seemed to hold endless possibilities. All we had to do was grab for it. But, there are no do-overs...
Some of the best music? The best music! And yes I have that same feeling I could have written what you wrote about time time going by. I guess we have to just be happy that we had it to begin with. And I know you said they are no do-overs. And in my Christian there are not. But there's a lot of Hindus and others who say that reincarnation is what happens and then there are endless do overs.. so I guess we can hope. Besides maybe somebody will do that Einstein time travel thing How good was the music then? Well there are still bands out there who are filling stadiums based on that Euro era including Bruce Springsteen and of course the rolling Stones and many others that many of us saw when they were in their twenties Speaking of The rolling Stones I remember the song time is on my But for me not longer
My first date with my now wife was in 1976. We went to a Johnny Winter concert, and the opening act was Dr. Hook and the Medicine Show. Great memories!!
I was in the Navy living in N Charleston South Carolina in the very early 70’s and saw them playing in a bowling alley. Awesome band! Who would have thought that they would get this big!
*THIS SONG IS THE LAST MEMORY OF MY DAD WE WERE CAMPING IN MY CAR DRIVING AROUND DRUNK (SOLBER WIFE WAS DRIVING) SINGING THIS SONG AN SHORTLY AFTER HE SAVED 2 DROWNING KIDS BUT SADLY LOST HIS LIFE AFTER SAVING THEM AN I CRY EVERYTIME I HEAR THIS SONG TEARS OF JOY AN SORROW! FOR THE LAST FEW YEARS I HAD TO CHANGE THIS AN ANY DR.HOOK OR SUPERTRAMP SONG OFF BECAUSE IT BROKE ME I MISS YOU DAD SOO MUCH! GBYAA!!!!!!!!*
Kids today have no idea what great music is. They listen to one hit wonders and they think that the crap that they listen to is music. It's sad and depressing and it's not music because you can't understand what the Hell they are singing or talking about. Classical rock and roll will be here a million years from now!!!!!
Superb! Hope they're all still kicking. They used to come in all the time to a bar in Secaucus, where one of the guy's mom was a cook! Feels like no time has passed. Such great, totally down to earth boys then!
Sadly, Ray Sawyer died in 2018 and Billy Francis died in 2010, but George Cummings and Dennis Locorriere (the youngest in the group) are still alive and Dennis is still performing.
@@janetdidonato9963 Looks like my info was a bit old. George Cummings died last year, but Dennis is still with us. The other three were somewhat older than Dennis (he's 75, same as me) - that Ray and George made it well into their 80s is pretty amazing.
I love you guys!!!!!!!!!!! It took me forever to find you I was searching RUclips kids until my dad said that it wasn't on there cuz it's not a child song but now that I got my mom's tablet I can actually go on RUclips music and I finally found it!!!!!!!!!!❤❤❤#😍😍😻😻🤩🤩🥰😸😘🥰😺🤩🤩😸🥰💚🖤😁🦄😁🦄😁😁😍😍😁😁😍😍😍😍😍😍😍
@Melinda Burge in case you still read this. That's *Austrian* (never make the mistake calling German Austrian, or Austrian "German" ) he was for years on the Austrian TV his name was Peter Rapp. He was on a couple of these Music shows. (BTW that about the Austrians/Germans this is just some inside joke... of us here... )

I wish i could turn back time and go back to the Glasgow Apollo in 1976 to see Dr Hook. That must have been an amazing show that balcony would have been shakin!!!
I love hearing them all laugh they are rip roaring funny, they are happy, the 70's was a beautiful time to be young.

The musical partnership between the band and Shel Silverstein (who wrote so many of their songs) was a great thing.
