8 years is too long time to upgrade a Lens. The new Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II are excellent, it is sharper than the Sony 135mm 1.8 GM. The new Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II is just about the maximum size and weight, that I can accept, so it is ok, the optical performance are outstanding ! I can highly recommend the Sony 85mm 1.4 GM II Lens. If you don´t need an aperture ring and if you want a more light weight 85mm Lens, then I can recommend the Zeiss Batis Sonnar 85mm 1.8 T*. Most of those talking about a 85mm 1.2 and "bokeh", they do NOT know what they are talking about !!! Aperture 1.4 for a 85mm Lens is plenty enough ! If you need more "bokeh", then get a 135mm 1.8 Lens !!! noobs
NO for me it is not. In Australia the rrp is AUD$3099 and that is about 204% more expensive than my Sigma DN Art 85mm F1.4, and still pocket the change of about AUD400 when I got Sigma 105mm F1.4. For me the best 85mm or equivalent lens there is nothing touches fujifilm G 110mm F2.0 on the Fujifilm GFX and it was still cheaper than Sony GM2 by about AUD900 after my cashback discount. However I do see a chance that I will get GM 50mm F1.2 which is more reasonably priced. In Australia Sony pricing means we pay Sony tax and price on Sigma are much much lower.

Prefer 1.4 over 1.2 everytime as a wedding photographer, lighter and easier to pack
And easier to handle for many hours.
Every other major manufacturers has an 85 mm f/1.2. Sony should have made it on the list for MORE bokeh, not just low light capabilities.
Once everyone bought the 1.4 mk2 they will announce the F/1.2 GM
They should. I held off buying the 85mm GMi in anticipation of the 1.2GM. Now I’m more than likely going to get the Sigma 1.4 DG DN
