Okay, so today I'm going to demonstrate how to make dreads thicker. My model Ayesha here has a beautiful head of dreads and the great thing about her dreads is that they're kind of small. Small enough to do a lot with. They look nice and full, kind of like natural hair does. However, she may or she might get to the point where she wants the dreads themselves a little fuller, a little thicker, a little bit rounder.
So I'm going to just demonstrate for you exactly how to do that. So I'm going to take two of her dreads here, right here at the root. As you can see these two dreads, they're fine on their own, but if Ayesha gets to the point where these dreads get a little weak, she can combine the two to make a bigger dread, but also to make it a little stronger. So that's what we're going to do today. So I'm going to clip this off here, get this out of the way.
I'm going to take these two dreads and the first thing I'm going to do, knowing that I'm going to make these two one, I'm going to use just a little bit of product to twist it. It just kind of smooths it out a little bit and makes my work area a little bit cleaner. So I'm going to take these two and twist it as if I'm twisting to tighten her roots. I'm only going to twist about that far down. Then I'm going to take a small rubber band and I'm going to rubber band where the twists are the biggest. That's going to be right about here.
This is where the two are really joining and becoming one. And I'm not going to make the rubber band too tight, I'm just going to go around a couple of times. I just want it a little bit more secure, and then I'm going to continue to twist all the way down to the end, and as I twist I'm putting a little tension to smooth the two dreads together, because I want them to look like one. If I just twist like this, then they'll unravel and you could tell it's two dreads put together.
But if I use just a little tension and slide down the dread as I'm twisting, then the closer I get to the bottom you can see that it looks like one complete dread, just a little thicker. And once I get to the bottom, I'm first going to try and combine the two as best I can at the bottom here. I'm going to take another rubber band and rubber band the bottom, because I want them to stay together. And as you can see with my twisting, my root is nice and tight, and I have a nice full dread, so I'm going to clip it at the root right there to keep that root secure.
And I'm going to continue my twisting all the way down. And as I get further down, I'm going to slide the rubber band down, because the rubber band is not we need to make the two become one. The way these two dreads will become one is by twisting and palm rolling and locking together. So as I continue pulling the two together I will pin it out of the way, and go back over it with a little more gel, and I will continue this until I get a nice tight roll, and I get the size that I want. And as you can see, they start blending right in with the other dreads there. And that's how you can combine two dreads.
She took FOREVER to explain this shit??! I thought she was gonna pull out some needle and thread...a crocheting tool...wtf lady?? Locks do NOT just combine that easily.
Tayquan Pinellas That's you doing your own dreads.. And good on you. You can twist them up however and as many times a day as you like until they lock. But, I think this demonstration sucks for people who do not know how or don't have time to do their own dreadlocks and pay to have their dreads combined and/or they can only make it every two weeks or once a month. It doesn't work like that for alot of clients I have personally had. Every mane is different. But, I would categorize this demonstration as more of an at home maintenance routine...that involves two people.... And takes forever to complete. 😣😁😁
Candace Shade I agree with the taking FOREVER part 😤 however I have combined two of mines near the same spot and I DIDNT use ANY TOOLS I literally two strand them and within weeks they combined on their own! I also didn't use any rubber bands
Hopes this helps 🤗
Like seriously!!!! Lmao!!
LaShawna Hunter same thing for me too no need for all that
Lol i was thinking the same wasted my time 😂😂
She don't even have locks. that is why she has to use rubber bands. When I double weak locks, u just tie them together and they will grow into one bigger lock. Never trust someone to do your locks who wears a wig, and don't wear there hair naturally... ASE
Indeed
Same thing I said
no good
YHWH177177 THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!
can you braid them together? would they form a loc?
To save everyone some time take one of the two dreads u want to combine and run it thru the root of the other dread and twist. After that u can just leave it and they will start to grow as one dread, the tips won't be combined but the roots of the two will
Crochet hook
Thank you because this lady doesn’t know what she’s doing
yo I'm a minute in and she's been pulling her hair nonstop.
the look on the lady's face is like, Please stop pulling my hair
I like your hairstyle
RUBBER BAND....DID SHE JUST USE A RUBBER BAND IN HER HAIR.....WHAT ARE YOU DOING!! NOT LICENSED.....CANT BE.....
I
right
This is how you get stress on your hair. How alopecia can start.
If hair isn't wet she'll get alopecia and thinning of dreads and damaging of roots real quick.
And TBH, she could have combined her hair with the interlocking or braiding them together.
darian ricks I just got ready to comment that the models hair is dry when I ran into your post. SO DITTO THAT!
You can also just loop it at the root.. and that seems to work as well and you don't have to twist it alot. I have found twisting too much and using dyes will break your locks off.
4:06 lmao😂😂😂😂 even she could tell something ain't right
Her faceee 😂😂
Yeah she's killing me when she keeps saying "dreads"!
RRell Mishelle "socio-religious movement started in Harlem, NY by Marcus Garvey found an enthusiastic following amongst the Black population of Jamaica....The followers of this movement called themselves "Dreads," signifying that they had a dread, fear, or respect for God. Emulating Hindu and Nazarite holymen, these "Dreads" grew matted locks of hair, which would become known to the world as "Dreadlocks" - the hair-style of the Dreads." www.knottyboy.com/learn/dreadlock-history/
People call it different names depending on where they come from .
Sorry but we call them locs
It's dreads!!!
@@LucienThorne it’s locs
CAPTION: HOW NOT TO COMBINE LOCS!!!
En yah well how do u?
Absolutely no rubber bands to start. Kills Locs!
Kills HAIR!
interlock at the base of the lock...
Those rubberbands embeds itself into the loc & cuts into every strand like fine BLADES. What is she thinking?!?!
I just twisted my natural hair and it has only neen 2 weeks and my hair is Locking!!!!! i love afro kinky curly hair!! a blessing.... Seems like my hair is just MADE for dreads!!!! Nice video:)
Love, hair doesn't loc in 2 weeks, you'll start experiencing budding. For your hair to loc you need to wait months😂😂
@@gomolemomokgatle7161 nah
Talks Entirely TOOOOOOO Much About Nothing .
no way you should use a rubber band on your locks, she doesn, the know what she is doing
Totally agree
Well wat do u use
Malik nothing just twist them together
Levi Anthony I had locs bro I never used rubber bands unless I was putting my hair in the two strand twist style. When I started we didn’t use bands either just taliah wajid tight hold. After a couple weeks-months I was in the game.
Levi Anthony oh wait nvm this is about combining locs lol yeah you need rubber bands my bad
..........this doesnt look legit at all..
Call them dreads, or call them locs. They are BEAUTIFUL, POWERFUL. I appreciate the video, thank you for posting it.
Bless
why not just two stran twist the dreads and crochet hook the ends ? thats what ive been doing and the spiral looks looks kinda cool
really?
sounds great but will they stay combined
theyre called locs not dreads
They're called dreadlocks
+Lamp Shade no they are not theynare called locs.. there is nothing dreadful about our hair.. go do your research white ppl were afraid of the men with locs so they dreaded them which came up with the term dreadlocs.. (to quickly sum it up) youre welcome
Yes...I know that...and Rasta have no problem with it...in fact we revel in it...WE kept it (do your research) because it's actually quite fitting. Dread means a great fear or apprehension. If they're fearful of my crown, Dem should be! You're welcome!
+Lamp Shade no thank you.. thats your opinion nothing dreadful about us period
Yes, there is. Own it. If we're not feared then, what are we? Smiling and tap dancing begging society to view my people as passive pushovers? No thank you. Don't cherry pick this part of a culture that you most likely do not understand. It's rude to Rastafari and it's cultural appropriation.
The loc model is pretty. There's the nice thing I can say about this video.
even the model is looking like wtf is she doing
BLAQ BEAUTY exactly
Yep
The model has such a beautiful head of hair
Can she shower after this or do you need to protect the dreads from water?
I have thin hair and my scalp always showing had my dreads about 10 months now is their anything I can do to get my scalp not showing as much are I just need to wait a little longer
im in a similar boat, my dreads are few and slim atm, if you give them time they thicken up, tone down on the crochet hooking only do it if they start to loop and just let them mature is my recommendation i wish i'd opted for more dreadlocks over longer ones, if you have any friends thinking of getting em the thinner you get them the more they'll cover your scalp if you build them quite compact that is :)
so how long do u keep the ends rubberband? how does that bottom loc?
my problem im having is my dreads about 6 to 7 inches long but its its liek the more I go to get it twisted the smaller they get Should I just stop going to the shit for like 2 months then go when there is enuff growth to combine ?
And let's not forget her INTERLOCKING video.
Need this woman in my life.
@+Howcast my hair is natural and its a bout shoulder length however I straighten my hair in July for my bday and my curl pattern has not been the same ..would I have to cut off my hair to start locs? or is it ok?
I did dreadlocks in my hair because I was tired of washing conditioning, drying styling and my hair EVERY day. With 3 kids i dont have time for that. I look gross with short hair...so i just did the dread thing. I see where yall feel like im infringing on a style BUT...they look so completely different i had not even thought about it until after i had done them. Locs on African American people are neat and beautiful. Dreadlocks on Caucasian hair generally is a very hard look to achieve and makes us look kinda....homeless for a year or so. I just wanted to try it out as a journey of my own. I wasnt unconsciously trying to steal a style but can you blame me!? Would YOU want to be a nerdy white girl with flat boring hair? Lol!
Wait so, did you stop washing and conditioning your hair? I don't think you can infringe on a hair style, every culture has had some form of locks.
No one cares white girl
Tommie Green I care, my nigga, dreads are the natural hairstyle of every human being, it's not a black only thing.
***** whites can lock their hair it just takes a longer time to lock up because there hair texture is different. if u tie two curly strings together and 2 straight strings together, they will both lock up but of course the curly one will lock faster
You do have a point ...lol... maybe you should try a short pixie cut with wispy pieces in the nape and fringe area
Everybody Just always have something to say well hey i have locs n they are thinning how do I prevent them from thinning...rubber bands are bad i get that then how do u stop them from thinning???????????
Lol! she didn't even let it go! Hence it would've unraveled 😧
she did let go
i was thinkin the saaaame thing. i gotta go back to see if she let it go or not cause thats not how to double twist locs in order for them to stay....they may not unravel on camera but they will eventually
Back!
she didnt let it go ...
she know damn well she finessin
She presents herself well and speaks well but thats the throw off
No one should be offended. Dreadlocks= Freeform/Neglect Locs= Twisted roots. Dread= Greatly Feared... Anticipate with great apprehension. I'll be behind this term.
ADDING MY 2 CENTS
And!!!... you dont put the hair clip at the root you just twisted...
Don't you need like creams and stuff for this.
And rubber bands are bad for regular hair so I don't think they will be great on dread locs either.
She did not leave the rubber bands in. She used them as a guide.
WARNING!!! Horrible...too much product and tension, plus she's using too many techniques smh My heart cries for her clients roots....
It's a shame that no one has a method for getting lint out of dreadlocks. It doesn't matter how nice you cover them, what nice fabric you use (silks and satins) you will STILL get lint in your dreadlocks over the years. I wear wraps and turbans most of the time because I find my dreads look terrible at about 20 years old and full of lint!
look up chescalocs here on youtube. she does a few tutorials on lint removal. there's a natural rinse you can make and soak your hair in.
If you use bee wax.. Stop using it.. I wash my hair once every two weeks and i do keep my hair wrapped up...
Baking soda/apple cider vinegar rinse and a soft bristle brush should do the trick unless they are matted down into your locks. If it is, then it may be best to dye them.
Brush your locs! Start from the top and work your way down.. That's how I get the lint out.Brushing them will massage your scalp also
Wash frequently, brush, avoid oil on the loc shaft, dry hair with diffuser or under dryer instead of a towel, cover hair before taking off ur shirt pulling it over you head can leave behind debris, detox (acv & lemon diluted) frequently (monthly). Retwist with water only
That sound u make with your mouth, makes the video hard to watch
OMG YESSSSSS IT WAS KILLING ME I HAD TO STOP
wasn't it so damn annoying
That was the reason for my thumbs down
It was awful just freaking awful. I won't look for any of her videos at all
It was the "smoothing gel" over her head again for me. Do NOT put gel in / on ur locs. It's tempting but you WILL regret it.
I absolutely don’t….only water and oil. I’ve also noticed my scalp isn’t as itchy.
Hey soooo funny my name is Ayesha as well but I had the exact opposite problem. I had a loc that was too thick nd splitting at the ends so I had to unravels an 8 month old loc to create 2 more locs so I literally have just 2 4 month old locs on my head of year old locs❤💛💚
will this work with synthetic dread crochets?
what is the difference between locs and dreadlocks?
There is no difference, it’s the same thing 😊
Does this method work with loc extensions?
I would not recommend using rubber bands to combine.
Hello i did my boyfriend's hair and his ends get so frizzy what can i do to keep it from getting like that
Thank you, straight to the point!
i don’t recommend following any of the techniques used in these howcast videos about “locs” the techniques are incorrect especially on the interlocking video .Failing to interlock correctly will lead to damage overtime. So yall beware
Does Ayesha have her own dread Channel or Blog? Love her dreads!!
She is so beautiful! 😍
I love dis video..very well put together
Her hair beautiful I wouldn’t let nobody touch
The model's hair is terribly dry and stiff in ALL of your videos. Locs shouldn't look that way. I hate to thumbs down a video but rarely do I find your videos helpful. My suggestion is to get more training in natural hair. And make sure the info you give out is complete and well informed. Moisture is one of the most important aspects of keeping healthy natural hair.
If you know that, then show your audience that you know what you are doing and that you are a reputable source of info. Skipping the moisture stage is a big NO-NO and you can lose many of us in the loc'd community for that mistake. There's a difference between "hair styling" and "hair care". Good Luck Out There!
Nya Vaness can you braid 2 locs together to form one?
I can't be the only one who thought of saints row when she said her name.
godhcgxgkv jv gjg
Yes my hair is thin locks when I started I started short so she started in very thing so I'm having difficulties I'm not feeling my hair I like before and my hair was thick when I realized this time my hair is not as thick what can I do to thicken my hair up
what kind of locs does she have?
omg...did she put rubber band inher hair??!!!! she doesnt know what shes doing.... i should have known, she wearing a full wig
She’s soo beautiful 😍🥰🥰
How o I get hold of you?
So I don't need needle and thread?
Those rubberbands embeds itself into the loc & cuts into every strand like fine BLADES. What is she thinking?!?!
Aisha is so pretty!
Why not simply fed one loc into the base/root of the other and leave it alone to marry. 2 second combining method and be done.
dang she twisted the dread for days
She would never touch my precious locs!
the model is fine as hell
The rubber band , tension and twisting is reason its thinning in first place!
WTH was that!? That’s not joining anything
Smh i tried this method wit two skinny dreads i had and over a year later they still arent locced together. The two roots now grow as one dread but as for the rest of it i can untwist the two and it will EASILY unravel into still two separate dreads all the way to where the two roots are now one
Ew that sucks try like some edge stuff lol that stuffs like cement
Sounds like you have what they call a double headed dragon....I know some people who have sowed them together
Where the stylist located?
this woman has no idea wtf she is doing omg the model girls locs are so cute
I was told rubber bands make your hair brittle and break off
This is RUBBISH! Watch Damian Walter and Jasmine Rose for hair care info.
mm try all yannie the locologist's videos then call her
she's mom
+slantdwave I forgot to mention her! Yesss!
Damian walter
oh so you leave the rubber band on until it locks the two dreads
She just put a rubberband in her head 😕
Our Hair is Biblically Based: "Ezekiel 8:3." Locks.
Do you know the meaning of 'dread? = AWFUL!!!
"We as a nation of People Who Wear This 'Beautiful Style" need to Stop Allowing Other nations to Tell US who WE Are or describe Our Hair Texture." (We Tell Them!"
I Like Her Beautiful Head Of Locks Sister. You Did A Beautiful JOB!"
DeYAH Ysrael locks of hair is a general term for any gathering of hair (last I checked Goldie locks wasnt sporting a head of golden dreads) regardless of texture, not specifically dreadlocks, so no 'locs' arent biblical. Dreadlocks came from indians in India and became popular in the US because of the rasta movement in the caribbean... which is also where the word 'dreadlocks' comes from, because those in the caribbean who were against the rastas would say their hair looks unkempt and dreadful cause true dreads arent sectioned into neat rows and twisted, they're just left to naturally dread up on their own. so the slang term dreads/dreadlocks was formed...
@@KunoichiL3e thank you for explaining that for these people!
If you see this woman coming to touch you locks... RUN !!!!!
Great Technique.
Tip needed. A couple of my locs are thinner than others so I'm combined them by 2s. How can I keep them to stay together because I have thick hair.
Help me!!
when my loctician retwists me and he combines two, I don't mess with them, eventually they just combine together.
+evilkittie2103 I have a more than half in my head twisted together. The roots stay twisted together. I do have the problem of keep touching them
Hi J Mike,
You can twist the roots, then two strand twist your hair and sew the combined locs together to hold them while they lock. Use a tread the same color as your hair.
+J Mike you will leave the thread in. You won't see it.
Not dreads.. Locs. There is nothing dread about our hair.
What did I just watch? Lmao this lady didn’t know what the hell she was even doing.
Only a lotician touches my locs,if ur not you may not know what I want n what care my locs need.
I wouldn't want rubber bands to be in my hair for that long. No bueno.
Whats the girl with the locs ig?
There's a difference between dreads n locs learn about it
No
Yes it is
No hun. You look it up
if if you want to rejoin your dreads i recommend crocheting
Won’t that snap the dread off from all the tension ?!?!?
The correct terminology is locs.
I enjoyed the video.
Dreadlocks are the terms.. and yes.. for the Rastas .. the dreadlocks are only "dreadful" amongst the Heathen.
Thank you!!!
Slave mentality: the habit of tearing each other down instead of lifting each other up.
kwame zulu shabazz that’s true
True. Just saying the appropriate thing to do would have been better than just criticizing
I’ve been having a little trouble with thinning on my new growth from retwisting, not the loc itself. I usually retwist every month. Do you have any suggestions for root thinning?? Anyone??
Give your scalp a break. In the meantime moisturize and keep it in a neat hairstyle
Every month???😳
I had that problem. I get retwisted every 6 months and it seemed to help.
Thank you my sista for that information!👍💯🙏
Y'all need to understand Hillary
How cast gave her a method they approve of and told her to do it on that model.
love it, that is so awesome. Handle your business:) !!!!!!!!!!!
how would I go about haveing you do my hair
The comments confirmed my suspicions...the fact the title uses the term "dreads" instead of "locs"
I don't think the clips should be put in at the base of the dread that way.
How was this approved?
I just want to know why she/people call them dreads?! They are locs, LOCS. There is nothing dreadful about locs. Please research your history.
Everytime I hear someone say dread I cringe 🙃
Why are there subtitles? She's speaking clear English........
Your not suppose to put rubber band in your hair or it can thin it out
