Worst feeling is when you spend days imagining yourself with a new hairstyle that you've been wanting to try out but when you finally do it doesnt look how you wanted to
For the commenters: At the end she mentions that she knows this is how locs can be started @thechicnatural: Nice job, please show us the take down/wash day!
I LOVE the look so much but finger coils do lock fast on some tighter coiled textures. Very interested in seeing the take down of this style. She can pull of any look 😍💜
Jazzy W. The term “dread” has a negative connotation to it, dating back to slavery days. The slave owners said that the slaves looked “dreadful” because their hair started to mat and lock, looking “unkempt”. That’s where the name “dreadlock” came from. Most ppl I know with locs hate when ppl call them “dreads”. I would too after knowing the history behind the name!
I’m so ready for locs and been looking for someone to start them for me.. I might as well shoot my shot and try myself lol. How did it take for yours to loc?
@@iamjustrell6485 I had them in for 3 weeks and then I did my first wash with them. While I was washing them I could feel them knotting up as I rinsed out the shampoo. So they basically locked after three weeks, but it was the wash that instigated the process. I personally have never used conditioner on my locs, but I know some people do. But for the first few washes use only shampoo. Conditioner will make your hair slippery and it wont loc.
Thank you for the heads up! I love my curls a little too much for kicks right now but it’s good that I now know an easy way to do them myself if I wanted them! ❤️✨
Martha Alexander Dont let that stop you. Find a professional that knows what loc to part ratio is best for the density of your hair. I had locs for 5 years and cut them after they fell to the middle of my back, and my hair is both fine and thin. The ONLY reason why I cut my locs off was because I suffer from moderate to severe scalp psoriasis. Having to wash all of that hair EVERY week (to keep my scalp clean) was tiring. Good luck on your journey, sis 👑
My hair barely wants me to put yarn in my head for more than 2 week at the maximium and have my hair straighten less than a month. Just wash & gos and low pony-tail is all it wants. LOOL
When I did coils on my hair, I let the water from the shower saturate my hair and pulled the coils apart while removing the shed hair. It was pretty tangled but I didn't experience breakage.
Makenzie Williams if you put your head under water and add conditioner the hair will puff up and be easier to comb or finger detangle. But if you do it dry use lots of oil lol
I’d recommend standing under the shower and let warm water soak your hair..the coils should somewhat unravel on their own, then add conditioner to detangle
Makenzie Williams I do these all the time. Water makes them puff right up. You just wash them right out. I actually separate them for a fuller curly style before wash day. It's absolutely gorgeous!!! Then I handle the hair the same way I do on any other wash day. With a pre poo and slippery conditioner before shampooing. I have hip length/tailbone length extremely thick, super coilly, non curly, prone to matting hair. This is a great protective style for less hair manipulation. This and Bantu Knots were my go to styles before my hair got this long. It helped with retention.
You din't comb them out. You just untwist them with your fngers after spraying them with a water. And then you wash them. I do this all the time. Works for me.
Thank you my sister for this tutorial. It's one of the best I've seen! You've done so much in this one, short video!!! Moisturizing, coiling, elongating, eliminating frizz, adding sheen and styling!! Your finished product looks amazing! God bless you. Stay safe and well.💖
I'm enjoying these hairstyles all those sisters who have wonderful hands do your thing it's a blessing when you can do your own hair instead of paying an arm and a leg we are so intelligent human beings and it's definitely a blessing this way we can teach our daughters to do the same😃
So pretty! I do finger coils a lot but my hair is alittle shorter, and the tip to band the coils all way down is good. I’ve never thought about that to prevent shrinkage. Thanks for sharing 😊
I did this style when I first went natural I loved it!!! Just make sure on wash day u got some time on your hands to comb them out under water!! Most unravel on their own though under water!
This is so pretty..I want to try it but I'm scared they will start to turn into dreads. Isnt this how people start locs or no? Edit: Can you make a video on how to safely take them down??
They will start to lock up if you don't keep them moisturized .And you have to take them down i would say at least by 2 weeks at the most but that's pushing it, depending on your hair texture!😊
it takes a year for people's hair to fully loc. if you have 4c hair (it locs faster) maybe keep it for two weeks max. i think it's fine for a few weeks unless you begin seeing budding (parts of the finger coil bulging). i've heard from many locd naturals that finger coils actually loc slower than starter twists or starter braids because the hair isn't interwoven. so long you start with your hair moisturised, you're not shampooing your hair during the style especially if you're 4c and take it down before it gets super dry/matted, it shouldn't be a problem.
Unknown Unknown I just finger coiled my hair two weeks ago because it really helps my 4c hair from getting tangled. However, I don’t do it often because it takes forever to complete since I do them fairly small. I think they’ll only loc up if you continue to re-twist them, but I’m not sure. As for taking them down, I spritz water and add some Aunt Jackie’s Knot on My Watch to finger de tangle. Hope this helps.
I just can’t imagine taking them down, especially with the gel, my friend washed her hair in 4 sections and let it dry to get the gel out , then we used oil and took them out, but this looks soooooo nice 👍🏽 great job queen 👑 ❤️
RIGHT! The hater in me is yelling, "we dont believe you, you need more people" (Jay-z Voice). The supporter in me is yelling: "You motherf-ing did THAT"
The results are gorgeous! There’s a content creator name Terry Swoop. He made a video about beautiful black women on RUclips and YOU made the list and I agree, you are! Thanks for sharing!
I never thought to band it for stretching. Great Idea sis. Finger coils are my favorite style. As a mother of 4. They are so easy to do, very versatile and durable. Keep them in for 2 or 3 weeks.
A tip for anyone who is interested : don’t band till the the end leave a portion of your ends so they don’t stretch and retain their coils, you’re still have a lovely stretch. Also band in more sections so that your hair will have the same amount of stretch and you won’t hav parts longer that the other.
Can you record a “Coil Takedown” because I want to do these, but I’m super lazy.! Not sure where would be a good time to take them down before they start to lock, and how would I take them down!
you just have to saturate your hair in water/conditioner and comb out each coil individually. Even if they start to loc you can still do this to detangle and take them down
It's great your texture allows you to do this. My hair reverts and shrinks severely when wet or any product is put in it. And it does it immediately my hair was down my back but would shrink into a mini fro. I put finger coils in my head but they got so short and shrunken that I couldnt even take them down after 4 days. So I literally shaved it all off and just wore a wig for a year. Best decision of my life. Now I have it shaved except hair at the top that I wear in braids or ponytails. But this is cute and you are beautiful.
Great style, thanks! There's so much that we can do with our hair than we (I) have been. Thanks for your hair vids. & showing variety & possibilities of versatility x
I started finger coiling a few months ago, but I pull the soils apart once dry to make it look fuller. Thanks to your video, I will try again and leave the coils in. So many helpful tips in such a short video. Thank you!
The Eco Styler Gold with olive oil, Shea butter, flax seed and Black Castor oil is the biznezzzzz....you should try that one instead. I paid $6.99 at Target.
Still amazed at how you make 1st attempt styles look like you’re a master at them🤯😩They look lovely and this was relaxing to watch 🤗...thanks for sharing ✊🏾
I wanted to see what it looks like on long hair since I wanted to try I am not disappointed and you're literally one of the prettiest person I've ever seen
You have such beautiful and versatile natural hair. I’m still relaxed and want to try natural but because I’ve never handled or seen my hair I am just uncertain and fearful of going natural. But your hair is stunning
You had the best video on this explains to tighten the root and use the clips to hold the roots down also banding the hair to make it stretch even more. I want to do this for my upcoming vacation but I’m afraid the daily water activities might have my 4b/4c hair in a mess with take down. Thank for this video
This is beautiful! You really give me inspiration to try finger coils. My roots always come out puffy so maybe I should give it another try. Thank you!
I tried finger coiling my hair about a yr and a half into my natural journey...I did part of the back and some bangs. The rest got put up into a knot, I was so tired, but after more time with my natural hair you have inspired me to try again. Wash day is this week, I gotta buy some gel...wish me luck...🤩
It's crazy how connected we are in thought. I legit have been wearing my hair like this for the past six weeks. I call it quarantine chic. I braided mine though, so it would last longer. Originally I was prepping for twists, but why waste good braiding hair to just sit at home. Right?
Please make a video of the take down. I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that the results were amazing! 😍 However, I'm afraid of how difficult the take down will be and the possibility of my hair dreading.
sstjrwf my hair locs very easy. I had senaglease braids in one time for only 1 month. The braided twisted at the root, and of course my roots had locked. My hair was not natural, but thick...my hair locked and it took forever to comb out.
The fact that you made such an effortless part in the BACK of your head while recording is amazing. Lol But chile sis ain't got a drop of patience for this. Bless your ministry though. Finished product was to fire! 🧡👌🏽😁
Smh I'm not even finna do this to myself. I feel the attitude now and me having to roll up cause my hair tangled and I'm sweating. Nah ..... Its CUTE though 😂
I'd like to try this on my 7 yr old. She hates having her hair up. She's always taken it down even as a baby so I wanted to get something that would feel more free flowing to her.
WOWWWW! I'm so impressed with your technique, as well as your ability to keep your parts so straight and brick layered. I wish l would have seen your video before l did mine own coils less than 24 hrs before.
It's very easy. Don't be scared. I also thought the same way but since it was just coilling, the takedown is the opposite....reverse....I have been doing it for over a year now and my hair has growwwnnnn....it looks even better when the growth appears. Just beautiful....not going back. Try it.
If you've ever had spiral curls its the same separation/take down process. Add a bit oil to your fingers and separate small pieces from each one as you curl it in the same direction around your finger. Time consuming but simple
I use to do this on my starter locs so freakin cute and last a week but hunty my hair started to curl around the curls…noticed lots of knotting while washing them out. Tried keeping in for only 3 then wash same thing. Unfortunately I could only go 2 days with this style still with too much shedding and knots for my liking so had to put that to rest. Great beautiful style with little tension to the hair. Kudos to the ladies who can pull it off with minimum damage 💜
There is no style you can't wear. This so cute on you.
Quintessence Tucker I swear !!
Absolutely no style she can’t wear.... she is too cute!

She said that. You Just don't leave it in long for your hair to lock
This is exactly how I started my nephew's locs minus the gel. Just used oil and finger coils. I would appreciate a take down safe video too.
it takes a year for people's hair to fully loc. if you have 4c hair (it locs faster) maybe keep it for two weeks max. i think it's fine for a few weeks unless you begin seeing budding (parts of the finger coil bulging). i've heard from many locd naturals that finger coils actually loc slower than starter twists or starter braids because the hair isn't interwoven. so long you start with your hair moisturised, you're not shampooing your hair during the style especially if you're 4c and take it down before it gets super dry/matted, it shouldn't be a problem.

Thanks
Is there any this woman can not do?!!!😍😍 loved it as always!!❤️🙌🏾
Can you record a “Coil Takedown” because I want to do these, but I’m super lazy.! Not sure where would be a good time to take them down before they start to lock, and how would I take them down!
you just have to saturate your hair in water/conditioner and comb out each coil individually. Even if they start to loc you can still do this to detangle and take them down
hair doesn’t loc until 3-4 months in
@@xx_lapinkb4rbie someone in the comment section said hers locked in 3 weeks.
@@xx_lapinkb4rbie It can start tangling much earlier based on your texture and if your hair gets damp or wet.

I think these would be a nightmare to take out and detangle with my hair, even when my twist are to coiled at the root its a pain. but they're cute!
If you do one at a time and wet it then it might not because that gel turns into a slippery mess when wet.

@@ThePresentTimeNow Same girl my hair is super difficult. I have to braid my week every 10 days. Do you hair only stay neat for 3 days?
Everything you do comes out so perfect
The fact that you made such an effortless part in the BACK of your head while recording is amazing. Lol But chile sis ain't got a drop of patience for this. Bless your ministry though. Finished product was to fire! 🧡👌🏽😁
I wanna see how you took these down! Lord The tangles and mating my hair would have 😧
I want to see a video of her taking them down to!
TayCreateş Şlayy am waiting on that too
Same here...
i know its basically starter locs
That would definitely tell me if it's worth that 2 hrs of my life. 😊
Your hairstyles are bommmmb Everytime. I hope it turns out perfect when I try it on my thick 4c hair.
Smh I'm not even finna do this to myself. I feel the attitude now and me having to roll up cause my hair tangled and I'm sweating. Nah ..... Its CUTE though 😂
Nikki Nicole ‼️‼️
Detangle the separated piece before twisting.
Let me just say I’ve watched this video like a million times 🥺
Completely mesmerized 👏
Anything she does is awesome!
Your hair is absolutely gorgeous! So think and soft looking, it does look like a lot of work for hair that is so thick!😳❤️
Am i the only one who thinks she looks kinda like Nicki? Black queen 👑
She does! I see some features in her :D She's just that good! I will have to try and do this style and post on my channel too
People been saying that a few years back 😂
They do have similar features.
Her lil sister.
She looks better
Girl you are such an inspiration 💕!! I did box braid on myself after watching your video!!! By the way your hair is beautiful 😍
I wondered what not to like about this video. Girl your hair is very beautiful natural hair goals
I did finger curls once and didn’t know what to do with it. Yours look lovely. Will definitely try again.
I'd like to try this on my 7 yr old. She hates having her hair up. She's always taken it down even as a baby so I wanted to get something that would feel more free flowing to her.
I can NEVER get this to hold on my Type 4 hair. It always unravels! I can only get this done @ a salon!
Omg this is so beautiful, I’m going to do this for sure, I always wanted to try it but like you I wasn’t sure how it would turn out.
You look so beautiful!! Thanks for sharing, the styling possibilities are limitless.
WOWWWW! I'm so impressed with your technique, as well as your ability to keep your parts so straight and brick layered. I wish l would have seen your video before l did mine own coils less than 24 hrs before.
The takedown process is what scares me 😫
Mrs Mother Of Two tried that and it was a tangled disaster lol have to untwist and comb out one by one
Beautiful! They could even be starter dreads
They pretty much are tbh
Yeah she said that
We call them locs where I live, never dreds💕
As usual you make everything look effortless.
WOW the BEST way I’ve seen, super easy and fast!.. I’m definitely going to try that method! Thank You!🌹
I use to do this on my starter locs so freakin cute and last a week but hunty my hair started to curl around the curls…noticed lots of knotting while washing them out. Tried keeping in for only 3 then wash same thing. Unfortunately I could only go 2 days with this style still with too much shedding and knots for my liking so had to put that to rest. Great beautiful style with little tension to the hair. Kudos to the ladies who can pull it off with minimum damage 💜
