Nice, Jeff! That is definitely an older camper build. We used 2x4s trimmed to the exterior walls for water shedding instead of different sized slats on top of 2x2s. Everything on the exterior is 2x2s as you mentioned. The rounded sections at the cab-over top are made from a pattern so, if you need to replace them, save the existing one and cut it out of a 2x8. Additionally, the curve at the lower portion of the cab-over is from a pattern as well, ditto on replacement if necessary. Also, the seal on the aluminum extrusions for the exterior roof, sides and cab-over section were sealed with a putty like material which degrades over time. Probably long gone by now. Same for the windows. Best to remove all that, replace with a butyl sealant and reinstall the aluminum extruded trim pieces. You want to stop water intrusion from the outside, not the inside. You'll get familiar with clutch head screws and clutch head bits quite quickly - I can't count the number of index finger tears I got while screwing them in and the clutch bit slipped out. Also, when you get toward completion, mop the entire roof with some Cool Seal. Looking forward to more updates! :)
Pretty cool seeing how it’s built. Already got a ton of butyl tape I’m going to put over the seams. Just going to caulk it first for some added protection. Going to be a lot of work but it’ll be exactly what I want when I’m done 👍🏻 thanks for watching Mike. Always look forward to your comment
@@jeffdeshong You're going to love when it's done. My family took many trips in a camper (heck, we built them), and I took a few trips on my own. It's great that when everyone else is freezing in a tent, you can be cozy and warm in your camper. :D
