Repairmen Val McKee (Kevin Bacon) and Earl Bassett (Fred Ward) are tired of their dull lives in the small desert town of Perfection, Nev. But just as the two try to skip town, they happen upon a series of mysterious deaths and a concerned seismologist (Finn Carter) studying unnatural readings below the ground. With the help of an eccentric couple (Reba McEntire, Michael Gross), the group fights for survival against giant, worm-like monsters hungry for human flesh.

My name is Clariss and welcome to my channel! I'm an actress, makeup artist, and aspiring filmmaker. I wanted to create a variety channel that allows me to explore and showcase my art. I hope you enjoy the video, I know I've had fun making it. Have a blessed day!ll
You hit on exactly what I think makes the movie a cult classic: the characters feel real. You don't spend the whole movie yelling at the screen for the characters to make better decisions.
But there was alot of dumb ways to die.
@@loganshaw4527 Look, I mean, There's a Million ways to die in the West 🤣
@@singingwolf3929 how often does one die of thirst? Or eaten my a living fossil?
One of my favorite things about Tremors reactions is watching how people react to the Gun Wall.😂
First timer: "How the hell they gonna get out of . . ."
(camera pans back)
"Oh."
"What do you people got against being prepared!?"
Yeah buddy !!!
"Broke into the wrong rec room!"
One of the all-time great reveals.
heyo, so those perfectly aligned poles were actually set up in the very beginning when they were setting up the fence; the poles were with the rest of the construction equipment at the base of the boulder and they were running along the fence when they were trying to escape, setting up that they were in the same area! this movie's screenplay is actually tight as hell, honestly as tight as back to the future; everything is perfectly referenced and set up
They did make one mistake. When the doctor's wife gets in the car they make it very obvious that the keys are not in the car. So how is the car radio playing?
@@88wildcat it's actually not! It's a handheld radio that gets knocked over from the dashboard!
I also love that none of the characters make stupid decisions, including the monster.
I agree that the plans were all as well thought out as anyone might expect in that kind of situation. The snap decisions were reasonable too....except for Nester and his tire.
@@michaelparham1328 I give Nester a pass though because he was in death fear shock and therefore not really capable if a rational discission
@@davesunhammer4218 And one out of ten kills being caused by the character's stupidity is way better than the average for slasher movies.
18:40 That's the great thing about this movie that makes it one of the best monster films. The characters actually make logical and smart decision for the majority of the film. There are one or two exceptions, which can be handwaved by panicked reasoning (the guy getting on the tire), but they all usually go with the best choice with the information they have. It's so refreshing to see. Even when the Gummer's refuse to abandon the basement, it's completely understandable and in character for them to do that. Something moving underground like that is nothing that they'd ever been aware of or experienced, so it makes sense that they'd ignore the information because the information doesn't make sense to them. But once they see first hand what the creatures are and what they can do, they immediately take it in stride and adjust accordingly.
Also, Nester is the town drunk, pointed out more clearly in Tremors 3.
@@cinemappendix1389 That's believable that he could panic and just be thinking "Get off the ground!" without considering how _high._ And it works because it's an exception, they characters aren't _constantly_ doing dumb shit like that. One out of ten kills being caused by the character's stupidity is _way_ better than most slasher movies or creature features.
The Graboids were a mix of full size and miniature animatronics and miniature hand puppets. I've been a fan of special effects since I was little, so I was one of those kids who always wanted to know "How did they do that?"
This is one of my favourite movies! The practical effects still hold up to this day. I love how they never explain where the graboids came from.
Kevin Bacon and Fred Ward have great chemistry in this movie.
R.I.P. Fred Ward.
Actually, they explain their origins in movie 3. They've been around since dinossaurs, so they are "local boys".
The prequel that is 4 explained how they came from that period, hot springs thawed them then. They don't explain how they came about in this one like what woke them
@@hardcorenativextreme Pretty sure it's at least strongly implied if not stated outright that they have a _very_ long dormant period, kind of like a 17 year cicada. They bury their eggs deep and they take over a hundred years to hatch.
Love this movie!!
I grew up watching this movie on the Navajo Nation.
The idea for the movie came from Brent Maddock and SS Wilson, both of them were in the Navy. They were taking notes on a large rock in a Nevada Nuclear Test Site and one of them said, "What if there was something under the ground tht would never let us off this rock?" Amd thus TREMORS was born.
It was originally titled "Land Shark," but it was used in an SNL Skit, then it was going to be titled "Dead Silence," "Stillness In The Ground," and "Beneath Perfection."
Beneath Perfection should have come back as the subtitle for Tremors 3
"Beneath Perfection" is the title used on the copy of the film's screenplay you can find online.
Seems like it's a universal thing to watch this on the rez!
Did you ever watch the movie DUNE? I think it was first!
@@BeagleBellow First WHAT??? The two works have absolutely NOTHING in common.
this is a great movie, it is an homage to B-movie 50's horror, movies, but the characters are really likable, the action is great and the soundtrack is awesome.
I love that they foreshadowed the ending with Kevin Bacon's character Val causing the last Graboid to stampede off the cliff at the beginning of the movie with him yelling "Stampede!" to the sleeping Earl causing him to fall out of the truck. He also fell out of the truck in a sleeping bag making him look like a Graboid as he fell out.
Also, the fact that Val and Earl only have one lighter between them is set up in that opening scene, and is paid off at the end when they are looking for it while running with the bomb.
It's such a tight script from start to finish.
@@LordVolkov - Absolutely! OK, so it's not quite as polished as, say, "Back To The Future" - but then it's not fair to expect it to be given that it effectively had half the budget and far less development time. Nevertheless, all the major plot points and story beats established at the beginning are paid off and resolved by the end. Oddly enough, I literally just discovered that two of the writers were responsible for "Short Circuit" as well, so with 20/20 hindsight the solidity of the storytelling makes sense.
This had what a lot of modern films seemed to have forgotten about, a sense of fun.
A straight banger. One of those "if it's on, we watch it" movies. Funny, heartfelt, and actually unsettling.
This is one of the most well-made, smartest creature features in its class. The sequels are all worth watching to some degree (at least I can vouch for up to the 4th movie). They get sillier as time goes on and this one is the best of them, but they're all fun.
I believe technically, we are all now some degree of Kevin Bacon...
He is Earth's greatest hero 😉
Eely, Anaconday, Snakey thingys. LAUGHED MY ASS OFF AT THAT DESCRIPTION!!!!!
Glad you enjoyed this movie. Tremors is such a well-done classic, and Rhonda deserves more mention among the awesome movie heroines from the 80s and 90s.
NTM Heather.
I agree. Rhonda is cute, smart, and thinks fast on her feet.
Proof you can have an effective horror movie that mostly takes place outdoors in bright sun.
I highly recommend watching the next 2. They're also great in their own ways. The other 4 can probably be left alone unless you're REALLY into the universe.
As a full-on Tremors cult member, I like 1-3, 4 is okay IMHO, but yeah, the rest are strictly for serious fans with no life such as myself. The reliance on (bad!) CGI in the later sequels really hurts the franchise.
Much like Terminator and Aliens it's best to stop at 2 8).
@@windandcloudshadow158 oh definitely not. 3 is the best of the sequels! Don't stop at 2.
@@dr.burtgummerfan439 Did Burt ever get the HK-91 back from Heather or at least buy another I've seen almost all of the spinoffs but can't remember
4 is better if though of as non-canonical, instead of a prequel, otherwise there are questions of continuity that canae be addressed in the previous films.
Now to watch the next couple, they go deeper and deeper into what the Graboids actually are. They are also campy and funny
I remember watching this - I think it was one of those BBC One late night movies when I was about 14 - and really enjoying it. Everything about it screams "B-movie", but it's executed so well it feels like everyone brought their best game to the picture. I think I read somewhere that Kevin Bacon was originally a little embarrassed by it, as he felt his career had stalled around this time... Nowadays he's supposed to actually be quite proud of it.
I'm glad Clariss got to see the greatest movie ever made.
Agreed. Nobody deserves missing out on that.
I appreciate your understanding of how being able to act with subtlety is as important as acting with bravado. This movie could have been really dumb but it was directed so well and acted with such seriousness towards the characters that everybody was playing to the point where it didn't seem like they're playing characters it really seemed like a close-knit group of friends who lived in a town of 10 people. One of my favorite movies ever and one of the few movies from the 90's that really holds up over time.
You should definitely watch at least 2 & 3 they are great. The rest start off okay but get worse as you go on. Fun fact, the girl who plays Mindy is the same girl who played Lex in Jurassic Park
I thought she looked familiar!
One of my first and favorite horrors, Tremors instilled me with a love of creature features. Give me a cool monster trying to kill a good cast and I'm all smiles.
RIP to Fred Ward. He and Michael Gross (Burt) return for the very fun sequel.
Some more 90's creature features (it was a fantastic decade for monster movies) - The Relic (Tom Sizemore RIP), Arachnaphobia (Jeff Daniels), Anaconda (JLo & John Voight), Lake Placid (Bill Pullman), Deep Rising and The Faculty (both with Famke Janssen)
I own all the Tremor movies. They’re dumb but so much fun! I still can’t believe they made 7 of them!
And the tv series on top of that.
And the unreleased pilot for a second tv series that we hopefully get to see one day.
Im also a big RLM fan, and they hit the nail on the head when they describe this script (along with back to the future, I'd say) as being the perfect example of storytelling economy. Everything in the story has a point for being there. Its a classic. Maybe the GOAT b-movie.
You've made it to one of my favorite movies of all time. WELCOME TO PERFECTION, GIRL
28:42 Fun fact, one of original designs for the creatures included a hard exoskeleton that would slide back to reveal a soft interior. They decided to scrap that ‘cause they didn’t want the audience to call this movie “Attack of the Sand Dingies”.
I saw this in the theater when it came out. I loved it back then, and I still do today. It's in my top ten all time favorite movies from my childhood.
I know its weird but this is a hard weekend feel good movie. People being smart about a monster I love it. R.I.P Fred Ward.
That gun-wall reveal has to be one of the best sight gags in cinema history. Every person I've ever watched this movie with audibly reacts out loud in some way at that moment.
Great movie. I usually don't like horror movies but this is the exception. You should also see Stir of Echos 1999 a sci fi horror also with Kevin Bacon Also a great Fred Ward Rip movie is Remo Willams the adventure begins. I love the scene with the monster that attack the gun crazy couple it cracks me up :) . You got in into the wrong rec room :) .
Everyone watching for Kevin Bacon . . . and here I am watching for Fred Ward. R.I.P.
I discovered this movie on daytime tv as a kid and watched it so many times and followed the sequels. Back in 2017 during a horror movie marathon hosted by a professor, I won a box set in trivia from the question, What is the name of the creatures in the Tremors franchise and I was the only one who knew. My professor was so pleasantly surprised lol. Also the box set is the only reason I knew they continued past the fourth movie.
Kevin Bacon played the lead in this film, and yet the actor everyone fell in love with was Michael Gross as Burt Gummer. Which is why all the sequels have his character as the lead role.
So, one thing I love is that when Kevin Bacon scares his buddy, making him flop out of his truck bed, it's very similar to how he kills the grabboid in the end, scaring it off the edge of the cliff. The sleeping bag and grabboid are even similar colors.
Poor girl who played Mindy was attacked a few years later by a Tyrannosaur and Velociraptors as Lex in Jurassic Park
I completely agree with you about the advantages of 'practical' effects vs CGI. 'Visceral' is the perfect word for the quality of good puppetry, costumes, miniatures, etc. It's the same charm the old Godzilla movies had: you knew the monster was a stunt performer in a rubber suit, but they had a certain gravity to them that CGI monsters lack. And in 'Tremors,' in addition to the great effects, we had the unprecedented chemistry between Fred Ward and Kevin Bacon; they play perfect bro-buddies who've probably been friends all their lives.
They used a combination of miniature puppets, medium sized forced perspective and full sized puppet/animatronics. Remember, this was right at the cusp of the CGI revolution in cinema. Jurassic Park was still 3 years away. 😲
This is a great one and a lot of fun. The one thing I like about this is the uniqueness of the Graboids. They're one of the most original movie creatures, but I also like that, despite being called monsters, the Graboids are basically just wild animals moving into a populated area. They think, behave, and act just like animals. The Graboids even learn and adapt to their situation in the way smart animals will do. This is just all around a good, fun time. Great reaction 🙂
This will forever be my favorite monster movie. I exclude The Thing because that's more of a horror movie. This feels like a classic B-movie of the earlier decades, but the writing and acting is top-notch for what the story demands. Memorable characters and a memorable monster. The origin of "the floor is lava" lol.
You might be interested to know that during an interview, Kevin Bacon did say that he would consider reprising his role as Val McKee. He wanted to revisit this character to see how his life turned out 30 years later. There was a Tremors TV Movie which was made in 2018, which did just that.
Unfortunately Kevin Bacon announced through his instagram account on April 27 2018 that the show would not be moving forward as the network it was to air decided not to pick it up. At that time however a full pilot had been produced.
Notice how despite the heat no one is really sweating? That you don't see any of the heat waves in the distance?
That is because it was actually ice cold freezing there. They tried to pretend it was a hot desert. : )
One of the things i love about this film is the director said he wanted to make a horror film where the audience isn't screaming at the characters to stop doing dumb things. So the balance of People vs Monster in this film is quite unique for it's time because not only do the people have to keep outwitting the monsters, the monsters keep getting smarter in order to get their prey.
I hope you watch Tremors 2 sometime, it was a straight to video film but it's still a good film.
And also Burt is the best character in this series.
Great to see your reaction to this film, Clariss!😊
It's always fun to see people react to this film, in all its campy glory.😅
Val and Earl are such a dynamic duo!🥰
Not to mention the power couple of Burt and Heather! 😁
Mindy jumping around cluelessly on her pogo-stick still manages to make me laugh, somehow 🤣
Glad to see you enjoyed yourself; and yes, I think it works best if one is not thinking too logically with this film 😄🥰
Hope you're doing well!😊
In the beginning of the movie they were building a fence out of lumber and barbed wire. That's where the poles came from.
Tremors 2 is still my favorite
Classic movie Kevin bacon is so good in this
Thank you for making my day better, Love your reactions, Looking forward to more.🥰
growing up this was a family favorite movie. It's a really perfect blend of horror, comedy, and adventure. Even though they've done a ton of sequels, nothing else comes close to this first one. One of those lightning in a bottle movies.
Earliest, Kevin Bacon, that I can remember. Is in Animal House, he's the one bent over, saying," THANK YOU SIR MAY I HAVE ANOTHER"!!
This movie is a master class in how to take a 50s B-movie monster premise and elevate the material.
Definitley I'd recommend reacting to the sequel Tremors 2: Aftershocks after this. While it doesn't have Kevin Bacon, it does have Fred Ward returning as Earl Bassett, who's been hired to deal with a Graboid infestation at a Mexican oilfield. Plus, it has Michael Gross return as Burt Gummer, which makes Burt more of a main character. It helps to cement Burt Gummer as one of the legendary horror heroes and sets Burt up as the main character for the sequels after Tremors 2. It's a lot of fun and highly recommended.
It’s amazing ho deep the seven degrees of Kevin Bacon go. That just gives props to his talent and diversity of roles.
Love this movie ❤
All practical. I still remember the first time I saw this in the theater with my 3 boys! It didn't scare them. They loved it.
Great review..
As we say here in Texas; Y'all be safe..
I saw this on TV at 7 or 8 and loved it. It's great lite-horror.
Such a fun movie! Love to see more people find this movie lately
Definitely worth watching corridor crew analyze the effects in this movie.
This movie was definitely underrated when it came out. The acting, writing, and effects are so good.
A fun spoof of the 1950s monster movies.
I know this tends to be seen as a campy B-movie-style monster movie, but it's a genuinely pretty solid movie. The characters are likable and smart enough for the situation, it does a great job making the monsters a bigger and bigger threat in a logical progression by having them learn, the monsters look good, the fact that they're underground makes it easy to use the models sparingly, the practical effects work, there's actual setup and payoff, and it's just a lot of fun throughout
They also give you audio and visual clues about the ground vibrations scattered all throughout the first half
4:25 - I figure it's worth pointing out that the main reason for the sunscreen in "movie" terms was arguably to temporarily prevent the audience from noticing that Rhonda (Finn Carter) was in actuality really cute... ;)
These movies are a more of an "action/comedy with monsters" type than horror, etc. They're intentionally campy, and it's part of what makes them fun.
No CGI in the first Tremors movie. Very little if any in the second one. They used some sparingly in 3 and 4, and got more into it with 5-7. They did it all practical whenever they could, though. Some was large hydraulic and maquette puppet stuff, close up of the tongues was actually a hand puppet on a guy's arm. A few things done with miniatures. You can actually find a lot of stuff on the "Making Of" for the various Tremors movies.
A couple of fun facts about this movie: they were supposed to film the car being pulled under completely but the day before they shot that scene the rig broke which is why the switched to just the headlights going out in the night sky.
Second fun fact the scene of going though the dirt was made by having a camera pointed straight up looking through a tube then they just poured dirt down the tube.
The scene work youre referencing, check out Steve McQueen in the magnificent 7, even when he has no lines he's stealing scenes by doing natural things like adjusting his belt, or checking his gun, things like that.
In real life, Kevin Bacon did pole vaulting in high school or college. I head cannon that Rhonda had a track and field scholarship. A deleted scene says Marvins parents spend most of their time gambling in Vegas. He acts up because he gets ignored if he doesn't.
As an old 72Englush, this film is one of my guilty pleasures. Beauttifully written, acted, paying homage to countless B features from my Saturday Matinees as a kid. Pure popcorn hockum. If you still feel blue after this comedic glee, you are a miseable sob.
If I remember correctly, the actress that plays the little girl Mindy is the same one that played the park owner's granddaughter in Jurassic Park.
The under ground monsters are called Graboids. They were named that by Walter Chang, He named them then they ate him!
Val: "Can you fly, sucker?! CAN YOU FLY?!"
Assblaster: "Well no, but really yes."
This terrified me as a kid now i just laugh🤣
This movie is a CLASS in set up/pay off. It's a perfect movie for what it sets out to do :D
Kevin Bacon was a pole vaulter in college. Tremors 2 & 3 are really good too and has some backstory of the Graboids.
Fun fact, this is the only movie that Kevin Bacon has said that he actually would like to go back and do another of and is the only movie of his works that he has said he has actually watched.
Haven't seen this movie in a while and I still enjoy it. I love 90's movies
Fred Ward was one of my fave actors, sad that he passed last year
YES! My day is made.
In college in the 80's I dated a girl from the area where this was filmed in Alabama Hills, California high desert region. Every guy I met from there chewed tobacco...Every one.
There are seven movies of Tremors and they also made Tremors The Series in 2003 that was on Sci-Fi. And Michael Gross who played Burt Gummer is the only actor that’ve been on 7 films and the television show.
Tremors 1990
Tremors 2 Aftershocks 1996
Tremors 3 Back to Perfection 2001
Tremors The Series 2003-2003
Tremors 4 The Legend Begins 2004
Tremors 5 Bloodlines 2015
Tremors 6 A Cold Day in Hell 2018
Tremors 7 Shrieker Island 2020
There are 6 sequels and a TV series that aired on the SyFy channel for ONE season in 2003 (13 eps).
Fun fact Mindy plays Lex in Jurrassic park, walter is from Big trouble in little china and Prince of darkness some more carpenter movies, Heather is the COuntry singer Reba Mcintyre just got to the part where you realised, the 2nd movie is just as good, the 3rd its ok, there is a 4th and its a prequel
The greatest B-movie ever made. I watched it every year with my pops before he passed.
Michael Grossman, from Family Ties, plays Burt.
You better believe that Dwight has this movie on regular rotation. Any dude that's as obsessed with Battlestar Galactica as he is, and dresses as a Sith Lord for Halloween, almost certainly digs Tremors as well. But, he just might not be aware it's intended to be funny.
CGI was expensive in 1990. So Tremors being a moderately budgeted film is 100% practical.
CGI didn't exist in 1990. The first film to use CGI was Jurassic Park and that was a year or two later.
@@88wildcat - I'd argue that the first Hollywood movie to use CGI *well* and effectively for more than a single scene may have been Jurassic Park.
@@88wildcat It existed. Just very expensive. Watch The Abyss (1989) and Terminator 2: Judgement Day (1991).
R.I.P. To Fred Ward. Very underrated actor.
Great choice for a movie reaction Clariss tremors is such a good time I used to watch it all the time I was little and I would even watch it now as an adult
There is a documentary of this movie, at the time of release, it did not do too well at the box office because it did not fit into just 1 genre, plus there were NO CGI effects whatsoever, however, just because it wasn't an overnight success, it eventually gained a cult like following with fans, and 4 more movies.
(Edit) Apologies - 6 follow up movies.
Yes, there were exactly 14 residents of Perfection;
1. Val
2. Earl
3. Burt
4. Heather
5. Walter Chang
6. The doctor
7. The doctor's wife
8. Nancy (Mindy's Mom)
9. Mindy
10. Nestor
11. Melvin
12. Miguel
13. Fred
14. Edgar
There are seven movies in the series, and all the rest went straight to video. I'd say that the first four are the best and then the quality kind of went downhill for the last three. Coincidentally, that's also when they stopped using practical effects (mostly) and went to all CGI.
There was a one-season TV show on the Sci-Fi channel that had all sorts of other creatures turning up. It was even more silly than the movies and they aired the episodes out of order.
in 2018 Kevin Bacon filmed a pilot for a new Tremors TV show, however they not only passed on the show, the pilot has never been aired. There's a teaser for it on RUclips and it looks like it was finished, but there's not much information on the net about it. Some say it was completed and some say it was never finished.
People don't need a lesson they're here to see your reaction
Fred Ward RIP🙏
This movie is childhood memories for me I remember seeing this on sci fi channel as a kid I miss the 90s so much.
I think the most unrealistic part of this movie is that it's the early 90s, yet the unsupervised road workers had all their protective equipment on.

Sunshine Parker 1927-1999
Victor Wong 1927-2001
Tony Genaro 1941-2014

Could you react to tremors 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and 7 movies, the actress who played Heather her name is Reba McEntire she is a country singer, in 1991 she lost 8 of her band members in a plane crash
Damn I was 3 years old when the movie came out it's crazy
I wasn't even born, but I grew up watching it.
I love Tremors, it's one of my favourite films overall. The monsters are dangerous without being unstoppable, and there isn't just one cheap trick to defeating them. The people are pretty clever once they figure out the rules, and aside from Melvin they're likeable. The sequels are great too, definitely worth watching too, and even the TV series is fun, even if it's a bit wackier than the films.
Love this movie. Whenever im bored, i'll watch it. Its a classic, never gets old. Also.....can you react to the movie, 'A League Of Their Own'? Starring Geena Davis and Tom Hanks, from 1992, i think. Its a great movie about women's baseball, but can be a tear jerker at times. It also has Madonna and Rosie O'Donell.
Fun fact mindy is the same girl in Jurassic park 3 years later
Great reaction now to answer some of your questions. One they used animatronics for the big one like the scene Walter gets eaten they used puppets for the scene where the graboid destroyed the roof in the basement with burt and heather. The blood is a combination of motor oil fryer grease motorcycle grease and food coloring to get that look and color. Finally heather the actress that played her had monster fun in 90's because she was the granddaughter in Jurassic Park I don't remember her name right now but she was in the monster movies
Kevin Bacons friend in this movie , passed away in real life .
I CAN'T BELIEVE SHE LOST HER PANTS!
