DROWNED Bike Recovery! VIC HIGH COUNTRY MADNESS

  • An overnight motorcycle camping adventure to the Victorian High Country, where the plan was to tackle the steepest hill climbs that Vic high country has to offer (Billy Goats Bluff) but things don't go to plan and we have to recover a drowned bike which we had to ditch overnight.
This was the hardest yet best and most rewarding moto adventure I've been on, and it really tested the WR250R but it passed with flying colours, always reminding me that the bike will take me wherever my skill allows and that dual sports can really ride anything an enduro bike can.
Some of the tracks featured in the video include:
    - Huggets Track
    - Mt Angus Track
    - Avon Track
    - Mt Margaret Track
    Featuring: ‪@roclinmotomedia‬

Mate, I couldn't believe how steep it was in some sections. I reckon some of the loose, steep sections were quite a lot worse then Billy Goats!!

Thanks mate, I'll keep that in mind for next video, though I've listed below some of the tracks featured in the video.
      - Huggets Track (this was where the first river crossing was)
      - Mt Angus Track
      - Avon Track (a few more creek crossings with some really steep sections)
      - Mt Margaret Track

River crossings are definitely an artform. Like anything on two wheels - neutral body position, steady throttle (in the power band or you'll just bog), and vision up. The bike'll do the rest.
As for steep descents - neutral is definitely not better. Select a low gear, engine brake, and if the descent is so steep that it starts to overrun then simply drag the brakes. Believe it or not, the front brake is your best friend when going up AND down.
Like anything though, the lot of it takes one thing and one thing only - practice.
Gorgeous place! Would love to ride there!

That was some action at the first water crossing but by the size of the boulder you can see why. Downhill isn't my favourite on any bike(excluding a mtb) and those ones look very hard.

Yeah, it's definitely easier going uphill on the bigger bikes. I stiffen right up going down hill on my V-Strom, but find it a lot easier on my DRZ. Those downhills looked challenging though!
I'm no expert but I think sometimes it's better to paddle across those tougher rocky creeks to keep the bike upright, rather than risk dropping it.
That looked like an insane weekend of riding. I do love the Victorian High Country. I'm tempted to bring my DRZ down there.
Mark is such a machine. Always good to see him riding. I've never ridden motorbikes with him but we did the Epic mountain bike trail at Mount Buller together and he is a beast on the MTB too. 🤣

Dirt biking is ALL about standing up, looking ahead and MOMENTUM.
Park the twins in the shed for a year,,, get urselves a cheap enduro bike and learn the craft first.
