The far off city may or may not be desolate but my suspicion in regards to Julia making it past the tree is that “good heat tape” kept out a potential poison from the compression/decompression chamber just after the holding area. I believe they use sub-grade tape and poison to show how everyone who goes outside dies. This is reminiscent of how the previous Mayor was poisoned and how Bernard was anticipating the time it took for the poison to fully take effect. Also I think the number 18 on the hard drive is synonymous to Silo number as they may be other Silos.

"Silo" is a masterpiece that challenges us to think deeply about the nature of truth and the conditioning that shapes our perceptions of the world. Through its exploration of a post-apocalyptic world where humans have taken refuge in an underground silo, the show serves as a powerful metaphor for the ways in which we are often conditioned to think and perceive in our own lives.
The show raises important questions about the role of knowledge and understanding in our lives, and the importance of sorting through what is truth and what is conditioning. It encourages us to seek out truth and understanding even when it may be uncomfortable or inconvenient, and challenges us to confront the biases that shape our perceptions of the world.
The acting in "Silo" is superb, Rebecca Ferguson delivering a standout performance and everyone truly captures the nuances of their characters. The chemistry between the them is authentic and engaging, creating a sense of investment in their individual journeys.
Overall, "Silo" is a must-watch series that delivers a powerful and thought-provoking message about the importance of sorting through truth and understanding in a world that often seems uncertain and chaotic. It's a reminder of the enduring human spirit in the face of adversity, and a call to action for us to challenge the conditioned thinking that shapes our perceptions of the world. So the answer is YES, watch it!!
    So excited for season two!

That aside it has a good storyline (minus the little nonsensical annoyances) that keeps you guessing. Hopefully there will be a 2nd season so it's revealed who/what built the silo and why they wanted to save the humans. Guessing it's all fake or some type of experiment so we'll what happens.

The show is also brilliant, thanks to the great actors (especially Rebecca Ferguson, she is just as I imagined Juliette to be) and the fact that the silo looks exactly as I pictured it. The show is entertaining and tense and the score works really well. I also love the fact that - in both the books and the series - it doesn't seem to matter whether someone is male or female. Everyone is equal, with women working in mechanics and computers etc., same as men, no traditional role divisions. Can't wait to see how season 1 ends. Which page did Simms keep from the book? Why did they never show the mines and where are they actually located? Seems like the drill is the lowest point in their silo so the mines would have to be somewhere between there and mechanical.
Why was the water not a problem for George? Is it actually very shallow and since it's extremely dark you just can't tell? What would be the purpose of going through the door down there? Does it lead to a neighboring silo?
How are they generating the steam to run the generator? And why has no one ever tried to get a better understanding of that for the last 140 years?
Also, why is the complete surveillance of the silo known by so many people but positions like the mayor and sherrif seem to have no clue about it? Seems like it would be an almost impossible secret to keep when so many people know about it. Not to mention, domestic violence would surely have exposed a camera or two hidden behind mirrors in every room.
I could easily ask a dozen more questions, like how did Juliette know that she would need to have the heat tape swapped out with Walker's help? She never was led to believe that was the specific cause for why people died when they went out to clean.
Another massive question, is why make such a big deal out of the "syndrome" what is it actually or what is the cause and why isn't there more revelation given about it?

If you combine "The Last Sentinel" and "Severance" you would end up with this show.
The large door under water (The one Julia almost drowned trying to locate) connects to other silos (My Theory).
The first two we saw go outside to clean each had some kind of gas/fumes flood their masks. But not Julia's.
Now we know that the "Authorized" tape allowed for the toxic outside air to seep into their space suits. And the black market tape actually worked.
Why would anyone design a HAZ-MAT suit to need tape for the wrist joints!?!?
What happened to the bodies of the two "dead" cleaners?
The distant "Skyline" of buildings may not be of human origin?
There are others alive on the surface in communities like in the show "The 100."

They are absolutely on Earth or they wouldn't have the travel guide for Georgia state. It defeats the purpose of it existing in my opinion. If they were on a moon or different planet it would probably be a book about Earth as a whole instead.
Also, the bodies of Holston and his wife are there at the end of the episode as they pan around to show the state of things. What doesn't add up is that Bernard expected Juliette to be dead before she reached the tree as if there were some trigger or mechanism that activated as she approached it. We do in fact see each cleaner suddenly stumble as they begin to make their way to the hill/ridge where the tree is and not before. Seems to me the reason they show a beautiful environment is to entice people to clean with the thought that they can show everyone inside what it's like. But gambling that they would do that first and then explore and die to the radiation (I'm assuming) specifically in that location, seems rather fallible.
This show reminded me very much of The Promised Neverland, without the ominous "getting adopted" plot. Curious to see what is actually going on or if it's just very straightforward.

The Hazmat suit that they send the cleaners outside in may have originally be designed to withstand the outside, I think it was altered to need to be taped up so that poison air would seep into the suit, it was a deliberate death sentence, the small oxygen tank, the fake hologram of a living world outside, the request to clean the camera, all things designed to make sure people waste what little time they have and die observed by all in the Silo, that they don’t go walking off to an unseen fate, that would cause questions about how toxic the outside is?

I gave Silo 4 stars because the TV series is very close to the books (Wool. Shift, Dust. However, I anticipate as the series progress (and I truly hope it does) the storyline may diverged a little. I already see subtle divergences but not too great; still keeping with the spirit and plot of the story, not taking away but in my humble opinion adding.
For instance the inhabitants do not wear color coded overalls as depicted in the books, the storm trooper like police are not in the books. I loved the singing during the Remembrance Day celebration … 🎶 “ hear the sound that rings it’s calling us to our duty…🎶.” I thought this to be and outstanding means of communicating to the viewer Silo ideology and dare I say… creed of the silo inhabitants. I interpret the song and event as saying no matter the circumstance you cannot squash humanity and purpose. I loved episode 3 ” Machines” it took me back to my USAF, power pro. days.
I especially loved the look and layout of the Silo; It’s just how I imagined it would look.
I hope Silo will last for a few seasons. At least long enough to get across to the viewer its incredible climax and thought provoking social message; a message that I would like to share my opinion on but doing so might reveal the plot of the story.
I ask the viewers to have patience with Silo it’s not your action packed Avengers, zombie apocalypse, SHIELD Agent (which by the way ran for nine years😩 that’s nine years the American public will never get back😩) ……
If the TV show follows the book the next two episodes should be very similar in flow and action to episodes 1-3 and should serve as a bridge to season 2 or conversely seal the deal for a 1 season run….I hope not

I started watching the show and I really liked the first 2 episodes but i didnt want to wait a week for the next episode, so i started listening to the book. There are 3 all together and i finished the first 2 in less than 2 weeks. It seems like a predictable storyline but there ended up being so many twists that i couldn't stop listening!
The show veers from the book almost right away. And I feel like it will be a couple of seasons before all is explained with how slow the series is going. But I assure you the plot is not obvious. I'llfinish the 1st season to see how it turns out compared to the book

This isn't even all of the questions
Something that bothered me from the start is that no matter what, there would be some form of organized criminal activity in a civilization of this size and yet for some reason it seems that it doesnt exist. More than likely they could completely take over at least one of the levels if they wanted to. Especially since there are so few firearms available in the silo. It would seem to me that they would have some type of agreement with judicial that what they do is their business as along as the integrity of the silo is still upheld.

The plot is fine. But, the details of the story are poorly designed and unconvincing.
Silo dwellers seem to have impressive technologies. power generators, water purifiers, personal computers, telecommunication, cameras, etc. they even seem to have found a way to terraform the underground world.
that's all fine, but it does not dovetail well with the rest of the story.
    1) we are told early in the story that almost all information, books, hard drives and other stuff (relics) were destroyed during the rebellion 140 years ago. well, I'm not saying it's impossible, but going from zero to 21st century technologies, underground and without any knowledge from the past, only within 140 years is a bit unconvincing.
    2) How is it that the town square of such large and complex society is one cafeteria with 20 tables?!
    3) How do Silo dwellers have such abondance and variety of foods underground? where do they get their water? what fuels the generator? the story doesn't tell you anything, it just expects you to get along with it.
    4) They can filter air from the outside world in large enough volumes to ventilate a city underground but at the same time can't produce a biohazard suit with air filters to go explore the outside?
tbh, I'll only watch the new episodes because Rebecca Fergusen is playing. and even that can only get you so far.

    • @reidemmons3563
      @reidemmons3563 Год назад +3

Literally missing so many points that are explained in the show.
      1) The REBELLION was 140 years ago. That was the last time of the uprising but not the start of their entire civilization in the silo. They destroyed stuff from before the silo, but that doesn’t mean they didn’t already have technology in place from The Founders. They have the giant drill and schematics for the entire thing on the hard drive, so the limits of technology were already set and created when the silo was created.
      2) there are several cafeterias on different floors they just aren’t nice. The one they highlight is the one for the higher up levels where there is a display. It’s a show about classism, having other people cook food for you is a luxury.
      3) literally ground water and purifying used water. The generator is powered by steam that “comes from way underground and no one seems to know where it comes from”. If that is the only thing keeping you alive, it’s not that far-fetched that people wouldn’t want to fuck with it, just in case.
      4) they CAN produce a proper biohazard suit to go inside, but they don’t want people to survive. They purposefully use the shitty tape so that they will die “right on cue” as Bernard says, after they clean. It’s a control tactic. People know, when they go out to clean, they die. That’s why no one says they want to go out and far less people commit crimes. They fear the mines and going out to clean.

The decam gas was the poison I mean no need to decam going outside. The crappy tape let just enough gas in to give them enough time to see the AI image of green and try to clean the camera then walk as far as the tree before the gas got them . Juliette had the strong gorilla glue tape that kept the gas in the decontamination chamber out
I’m am curious why we didn’t see all the judicial goons at the start . If they have a sheriff and deputies what was the physical squad all about?

But then when Juilet asked to be left with the old lady they would have jazzed about the tape issue which we don't know how she realized.
Later the old lady moved out after 25 years to go out to talk to a friend about tape supply.
Later her friend visits her in jail with food but it had a note telling her the supply is ready meaning they switched the tape.

It’s like a computer game from the late 90s… there’s constant talk of this big city of 10,000 people, but all we get to see is a tiny linear slice of it, most of the time following wooden, one-dimensional characters and a few convenient NPCs to help move the plot along. Said plot is clunky and slow at the best times. The dialogue is simplistic and delivered in an over-deliberate style more at home in an amateur dramatic production at your local theatre. Watch out for people angry, outraged or in hysterics for one sentence only, people “being interrupted” by stopping talking voluntarily a split second before the other person speaks, fights that break out of nowhere for no reason and are over in 10 seconds, and the silliest one has to be every time someone is in a rush, they “accidentally” smash into easily-avoidable NPCs along the stairwell or corridor. Watch these last ones carefully - you can see them aiming or in some cases reaching out with their arms to make contact, which makes no sense whatsoever; I presume it’s supposed to give the illusion of a crowd when it’s not really a crowd. In fact, it’s NEVER busy! The stairwell is the only way up and down, and everyone we meet seems to live and work on different levels, yet there is no hint of rush hour? All this means the show is impossible to believe or get into, as you are constantly jarred back to reality by unanswered questions, bizarre behaviour, and stupidly unrealistic decisions and events. Very strange that such a high-profile show has such low standards.

You can see the plot for this from a mile away, it was pretty boring tbh. I just finished the 1st season, and in my opinion it moved pretty slow for a show that had such an obvious and inevitable twist. The last episode should of happened by the 4th episode, this show could have been a lot better if it wasn't so protagonist oriented; rather focus on other character stories by making it a collection of stories coming together rather than a very slow and boring focus on this one "special" character. I would give this a 2 but I'll give AppleTV some slack cause at least they're trying to bring refreshing stories rather than the same regurgitated mainstream poppy bs Netflix likes to do.
Also, I keep seeing reviews mentioning its good ONLY because they've read the book; I've never read the books but the show does not do it any justice at all. Convincing new viewers to continue watching the show because you think it follows the story closely enough does not make it worth watching. This show does not do a good job of bringing new viewers to the series.

The superior tape on Juliette's suit saved her from the nanobots in the atmosphere. She makes it to the next silo, but to enter she will have to survive the Fire Purge (as everyone going out saw happen behind them in the airlock of sorts to destroy the nanobots so they can't enter the Silo the next time the inner door is opened).
