1996 KW with a Detroit. Bought it in 2020. Detroit leaks oil regardless. I payed 45k and have put probably at least 25k in repairs over the last 4 years. I'm a one truck company owner/operator so I keep an eye on the truck. Arkansas asphalt subcontractor grossing over $500,000 total over last 4 years. I'm a 62 year old recovering drug addict loving my new responsible life nowadays. I mention this because if anyone has made bad choices in life and have trouble landing a good job Dumptruck owner/operator is an option. If you're new I suggest driving for someone for a year getting the feel for the business then take that leap of faith...Great video. Dumptrucks can be the sexiest vehicles on the road.
All trucks have blow by excessive blow by mixed with oil coming out is bad and thick oil No thin oil is a concern because it could have fuel in it and if it looks like chocolate milk not good either. The best thing he said is to get a trusted mechanic to inspect the entire truck and hook up his computer to check for old fault codes and actual mileage and engine hours on the truck.
Thank you Jay! I’ve been driving locally for 20 years in central Texas and am ready to buy my first dump truck. Your information is golden and will help out future entrepreneurs like myself. I’m a little nervous about buying used but it’s the only option I have right now. Thank you for everything!
JAY, thank you for posting this. I’ve seen this video already, but I didn’t really understand it until I experienced it. This is a comprehensive video and thank you for always adding value to the Dumptruck space.

Welcome! Thanks for watching!
Jay how do I connect with a broker here in Iowa?
Don’t do it 17000 a month gross
Driver 3500
Gas 2000
Payment 2000
Insurance 500 if signed on with a company and if not it’s 1600 a month
Maintenance 2000
Taxes 35% 6000
1k left and that’s without rain out days
What if you drive and don't have the truck note
Why are taxes 6k? This isn’t employee tax rates
Pay cash for your truck and boom, $2000 xtra in the bank acct
