    Never been to Richmond park but your video explains a lot of the press reporting cyclist hitting over 30mph in a 20mph area. Didn't realise it was so undulating.

    • @therookiecyclist
      @therookiecyclist  8 месяцев назад

      What’s interesting is that they were talking specifically about Regent’s Park, when tested there most cyclists actually go under 20mph, most cars were going over. Average speed is under 20 for most cyclists unless going downhill. It’s a shame people deflect from the damage and danger that cars do by blaming cyclists, when in reality a cyclist, even at 30mph, is going to do far less damage than a car which the statistics prove regarding deaths and serious injury. Hopefully Richmond park will be car free one day, that would be fun 😃 👍

      @@therookiecyclist the report I saw was about a pensioner who died as a result of being hit by a cyclist. The cyclist was part of a chain gang riding at 29mph in a park. This has started a ball rolling to get cyclist to obey the speed limits, which I actually agree with, especially in busy areas. There's plenty of other roads more suitable for riding fast.
      As cyclists we all want safer roads and can easily point the finger at other road users breaking the law and driving dangerously just as those drivers point out cyclists breaking the law. We need to be seen obeying the laws.

    • @therookiecyclist
      @therookiecyclist  8 месяцев назад

      @@nikblyth8047 Correct it was Regent’s Park and the cyclist was found not guilty. The coroner had witness testimony from both cyclists and pedestrians to say that he could have done nothing to stop or get out of the way as the lady just stepped into the road. I do agree that in certain areas that are built up perhaps a speed limit would be good. I just find it baffling that cars still break these speed limits, cause many many more deaths and we’re discussing cyclists who cause 2 deaths a year often not through speeding but carelessness.
      I’m all for insurance, perhaps passing tests and abiding by the rules of the road but this really is distraction technique at best.

    • @nikblyth8047
      @nikblyth8047 8 месяцев назад

      @@therookiecyclist IMO the cyclist was lucky. He knew he was exceeding the speed limit but because it doesn't apply to cyclists he got away with it. If speed limits applied to cyclists he would have been prosecuted.
      You can kill someone using a vehicle, call it an accident to hide your incompetence (driving with undue care and attention) and pretty much get away with it. This has become 'acceptable' because of our car culture.
      Our traffic laws and attitudes are outdated and need to be changed. A lack of road policing doesn't help either.

    • @therookiecyclist
      @therookiecyclist  8 месяцев назад

      I’d agree with that final part for sure.
      The cyclist wasn’t riding recklessly though, the woman crossed out onto a road and didn’t look, that doesn’t take away from her tragic death but there needs to be responsibility from both pedestrians, cyclists and motorists. Appreciate your comments though Nick

    Bloody hell Ben amazing content looked like Zwift as there ever been any head crashes with other cyclists?.- mind you i had a monster crash back 3 years broke multiple ribs and unconscious,road rash big time on the right leg couldn't imagine the grief with hairy legs on that one so always shaved for the last 40 plus years.
    Channel is brilliant fair play keep the videos coming.

      A few people have said this and it’s so true hahaha, the real life zwift haha. Christ that sounds horrible, must have taken a while to get back on the bike after that?? Hmmm that definitely gives me food for thought 🤔
      Thanks for the support Jeff and I’m glad you enjoyed the video mate 🤘🤘🤘

    Reasons for shaving legs:
    - If you have particularly hairy legs, there can be up to 20w saved at speeds nearing 40kph
    - They tan better
    - They look better
    - Socks/Shorts stay in the right place and don't ride up/fall down
    - Flies don't get caught in the hair
    Once you start it's easy to keep on top of by just doing a few passes each day in the shower.

    I reckon Richmond Park is a real life zwift world, never seen so many cyclists in such a small area. Have to say to that the cycling infrastructure around your part of the world is outstanding by the looks of it. Down there next weekend for Ride London, not ideal with a head cold 😵‍💫

      Hey Paul, looks a lot closer in the vid but we were going uphill at the time, car was doing around 15 or so and the space and time was adequate. There was more danger staying put with a build up of people coming thick and fast behind me to be honest. Sorry you feel that way though 👍
