    When the moors were kicked out of Spain they mostly went to Morocco. When the moors originally arrived in Spain they mixed with the native Spanish women as they did not bring female moors so by blood they were very mixed Iberian. Which was brought back to Morocco.

      @GeneaVlogger  4 года назад +65

      They will likely be similar but they won't be the same. Siblings inherit different portions of DNA from their parents, so even though your sister has Japanese readings you may not have inherited those same blocks of DNA. In genealogy we even use the term evil twin to reference the idea that if you had a sibling who inherited all the DNA from your parents that you did not inherit.

      I know this was an older question and it's already been answered I thought I'd add to that if anyone in the future needs more explanation. My brother and I have some similarities but also some big differences, my mum has 30% Swedish, my bro got like 22-24% of that from her, whereas I only inherited about 10-12% (I don't know how much of that is the same as his or different, obviously a mix but to what extent 🤷‍♀️).
      As a way to visualise what is happening, think of two bowls of fruit with all kinds of different fruit in them:
      Bowl A = 3 apples, 3 oranges, 2 plums, and 2 bananas;
      Bowl B = 1 orange, 2 peaches, 3 kiwi, 3 strawberries, and 1 grape.
      You both pick from the same available fruit 5 from bowl A and 5 from bowl B,
      You get = 2 apples, 1 orange , 2 plums, 2 peach, and 3 kiwi.
      Sister gets = 4 oranges, 2 bananas, 3 strawberries and a grape.
      You've both taken 5 from each bowl but your fruit mix is very different (and the variety of combinations are many), some you picked are the same pieces of fruit, while in some cases one has all the fruit of one kind and the other sibling has maybe only one or none of that fruit.
      Now imagine that the bowls are your parents and the fruit is their dna (each item of fruit is equal to 10% dna therefore 5 fruit from each gives you 100% of your dna), this is how two siblings can end up looking very different both physically and when it comes to genetic ancestry. This is also why sometimes it can be difficult to tell how far back a "full" ancestor might be, because if you inherited almost all of the dna of one type from your parent (like my bro with the swedish) as a standalone result it could appear that he had a fully Swedish grandparent (or perhaps two half Swedish great grandparents), when actually it's believed, from the work I've done on the tree, that his great grandparent who is fully swedish...on top of that, I have some Iberian peeping through (I think it was about 5%) that neither he or mum have; mine and my bro's results tell two different stories, so more info means you can hopefully get a fuller picture.
      It's why I personally found it important to test both my bro and myself, and also my mum & her brother (I'd have done their half-sister too but she said no), because in our case, the siblings helped fill-in some of the blanks we have by not having both parents (my dad died before testing became viable and it was important to try and narrow down which side what comes from, but also we wanted to know both our maternal & paternal haplogroups). So, it's not essential to test all siblings, but it can really help but only if you can afford to do it (although I would say if you're financially able and both parents are around & willing then it might be better to do theirs instead - but only if the geographic ancestry/matching is the goal rather than what your own specific make up is, that is).

    23andme were for ages showing me as being 0.1% Yakut, even had it on my timeline, same later with Broadly Central & Southern Asian, of course I consider and then generally dismiss such results, entertaining but probably no more informative than when sometimes unassigned pops up, have to say I was sceptical, it disappeared after a few years, I get Spanish & Portuguese/Southern European quite frequently in results at usually 1% or so, though AncestryDNA initially showed me at 5% and some of other ones have showed me at much higher levels, I assume it's either misidentifying similar looking DNA of West Eurasian origin from Iron Age or Bronze Age, more recently 23me was showing me as having 1.2% Greek and Balkans, odd how where there are DNA mapping it's noticeable how these are frequently on different chromosomes or different places on saje chromosome, so it's frequently not a case of it being one bit that is consistently showing from same region, so it's probably noise or similar, I had French & German and Scandinavian in my results and then those disappeared, more recently 0.2% Finnish on 23andme and 1% Norway on AncestryDNA, in fact only consistent results are ones showing North West of Scotland and North of England, especially West Riding, Lancashire to a lesser extent all to be expected Ireland pops up sometimes, mainly west coast and Dublin.
    Greater London us top on genetic communities in 23andme, but it is pretty much certain that this is because so many relatives of ancestors have moved to London that it reflects elements of the North of England and of Scotland, Ireland and Wales.

    I've had .1% Native American at 23&Me since I was first tested around 2007. At that time, I had .1% Subsaharan African as well. Since then the African trace has disappeared. Now, my dad has .2% Native American, and the segment is on the same chromosome. He has an additional segment on another chromosome. None of the other companies I've tested with have detected that Native American trace. I did some math once, and calculated that a full-blooded native ancestor probably would have lived 500 years ago.
    Given my dad's double dose and the fact that we have ancestry in New England that goes back to the first colonists, I think this is legitimate. It also comes up in the origins tools at Gedmatch. It is quite possible that we had a Native American ancestor who lived in the early 1600s.
    My mother is from the south with ancestry back to early colonial Virginia and many surnames associated with descendants of Pocahontas. I haven't proven a line back to her, and my mother didn't have a DNA test, so I don't know about her origins from testing.
    I just wanted to share to address the question of trace ancestral origins.

    Americans who are not aware of what north Africa is would think North "Africa" means she should have the stereotypical African American features.
    Also, non Moroccan Arabs refuse to admit that Many Moroccans are not actually Arab or even mixed Arab x Berner because of religious fanatisms mentality.

(we’re not sure though could be the phillipines as well for all i know) and i know that my great grandfather (mums fathers father) was also pretty dark and was quite hairy.. we think that might be some indian or pakistani.. i say this because when i compare our features to people from certain parts of the world those line up the most.. only ones i know for sure is African, native american and european

    11:35 Regarding this, I've heard that it's possible to tell roughly how many generations back the admixture happened by how clustered different ancestries are on your chromosomes. Eg if you're a first-generation mix, say a Japanese parent and an African parent, each chromosome will have entirely ancestry from one ethnic background and none of the other, since you get one copy of each chromosome from each parent. If you're the child of two first-generation Japanese/African mixed parents, you'll have Japanese and African ancestry on the same chromosome (since you inherited both ancestries from the same parent) but it'll be in large chunks, since during meiosis there's only a few crossovers where the two homologous chromosomes exchange DNA. The more generations back you go, the smaller each individual chunk will be since there'll have been more and more crossover points.
    23andme lets you walk through your chromosomes segment by segment and see them color-coded by ancestry, and this theory seems to broadly hold true for my results. My father's ancestry comes from Belgium and my mother's from Britain, and for the most part each chromosome either has French & German *or* British & Irish ancestry but not both. (The exceptions are explained by those two countries being basically across the channel and therefore no doubt having older admixture as well - although even those exceptions are decently large chunks.)
    Meanwhile, my 2% Neanderthal ancestry would be consistent with having a pure Neanderthal ancestor 6-7 generations back, but obviously that can't be true since pure Neanderthals died out more like 1600 generations back. And when I look at which places in my genome have Neanderthal segments, instead of large chunks, I have tiny little snippets sorta evenly spread throughout my genome, on chromosomes from both parents. Which is consistent with many generations of people with a little bit of Neanderthal ancestry reproducing with other people with a little bit of Neanderthal ancestry.

    Sardinia is not typical of Italy and it's because many Vandals settled there. During the Vandal kingdom, they ruled north Africa. So that's most likely where that part of her DNA came from.

    Can a genealogist search for information about people just based of one photo?

    • @GeneaVlogger
      @GeneaVlogger  4 года назад +3

      It's certainly possible but extremely difficult. There would need to be enough clues in the photo to figure it out. At the very least there are photo detectives who can give you an estimate of what year the photo was taken and possible ties to certain cultures or ethnic groups (often based on clothing).

      If you have the physical portrait then look on the back or consider taking them out of the frame to look at the edge and sides. You can also consider finding a professional to help with this if the portraits are very fragile.

    I took a test. I have percentage. But based on that, how can I know when the mixed was done? 😥Example: My parents are both from Algeria. I have 8% of ashkénaze. I dont know where it comes from. Maybe through some sefarad Ancester I dont know about ? 🤷‍♀️ My mother has no % of ashkénaze. I suppose it comes from my dad side. But he is dead. How Can I calculate from which génération this ashkénaze ancester poped up? 😋

    • @GeneaVlogger
      @GeneaVlogger  4 года назад +4

      The best way is actual genealogy research! 8% equates to somewhere between a great grandparent and 2nd great grandparent (assuming it is all coming from one recent ancestor). If your dad had any siblings or you have cousins on your dads side you can also ask them to test to see if they also get Ashkenazi. Hard to prove anything using the ethnicity admixture, it's more of a tool to help in genealogy research.
