An interesting thing about Pears soap, is they had the first ever celebrity endorsement, Lillie Langtry. She was the most famous beauty of her day and lead a fascinating and scandalous life. I'd love to see a biography of her on your channel.
Love the old ads you shared! For decades, my aunt used Vaseline all over her face when she went to bed at night…like a sleep mask. She passed away at 88 years old, and barely had any wrinkles…it was remarkable. 😮❤
I sometimes use Vaseline as a lip balm, and sometimes on my cuticles and cracked feet. Vaseline has a long history of use in the African American community, as an all-over moisturizer. Most us stopped using it that way though, because even though it protects skin and helps cuts heal, it attracts dirt and doesn’t let healthy skin breathe.
So I am a pasty white pale as heck, I live in Colorado (dry semi arid desert weather with lots of sun), and I have a genetic condition called ehlers-danlos syndrome. EDS affects all the collagen I make in my body, and it makes my skin super thin, sensitive, and prone to irritation at a lower threshold...so I am on the lotion, vaseline, cuticle oil, and lip balm ALL the time too! I have tried so many things, and a lot of oils or products tend to irritate my skin, but pound for pound good old vaseline is just awesome at being gentle and creating the best barrier to stop skin from chapping or drying more. It does wonders for cuticles, rough feet, and dry knuckles or elbows etc! It is super nice as an intensive for little spots that really need some help and protection.
The idea of Noxzema being used to "treat" eczema is a huge yikes. All the eucalyptus oil, menthol, and camphor seems like it would feel nice at first but actually be horribly irritating and exacerbate sensitive skin problems.
Depends on the person and what their eczema reacts to. Also, it might be diluted enough to cause any issues. I have atopic dermatitis and can handle those oils in most products without issues. But some products that may be less diluted will irritate. Eczema is different for everyone with it.
Before liquid hand soap became available, the elementary school I attended had bars of Ivory soap for us to wash our hands with. I always thought Ivory had a weird smell. My parents always bought Dial soap in the gold bars.
Love love love your historical research!! Use many of the products: Yardley soap, Vaseline, Nivea cream!!, ponds. Currently on a kick with castor oil. All over my face.
I love penhaligons. I just wish they weren’t so expensive! Their bluebell and Lilly of the valley scents are so nice. My old fave was called lavandula, which had a mostly lavender scent, but it was discontinued
My dermatologist had me use Vaseline when I had stitches to prevent scarring because it reduces or prevents scabbing and promotes healing faster. It keeps it moisturized.
I miss Shiseido's essence so much. We used to carry it at the Sephora I work in, and I felt so glamorous, just taking home a few samples to try it out.
Noxzema was my go to as a teen then young adult. I've used it off and on since. My brother in law used original Listerine his entire life and has never had a cavity.
I would love to know more about the history behind Violeta cologne, if possible. 🙏🙏🙏 I recall many parents in the Cuban and Haitian communities here in South Florida during the 1980s and 90s over using violeta as a anti-lice perfume. Which there is a lot of truth to it that I use it on my pets growing up and my fur babies NEVER had fleas, ticks, mosquitos nothing! I still use it on myself and my fur babies. The fur babies get annoyed at times, but it is absolutely the ONLY thing I found that prevents bugs being on them. My pups and kitties NEVER get bugs on them, and it is due to the violeta cologne. It is my go to. Please, make a history video, if possible. Thank you so much.
After trying multiple overpriced makeup removing balms that under-performed, and even finding that some of them molded quickly, I've gone back to my good and true Noxzema. I will never stray again. I like Pear's and Yardley's soaps too.
My grandmother used Ivory soap as a shampoo, she had the softest hair I ever felt. She also used the blush that came in the tin,but it wasn’t a powder. It was beautiful.
I used to wear hard contacts and there were a few times that I scratched my eyes with them. After one accident where I got hit with a softball and had one shatter in my eye, the ER doctor told me that for any eye injury, you should put a small amount in your eye to block air (causes pain) and friction. Your eye should heal in 24 hours. I also grew up putting Vaseline on burns and used it for diaper rash my son had. Again, an older doctor told me that it worked great. It really does! I use it on cuts too. It keeps the wound clean and it won't get infected.
Acqua Di Parma Colonia is my absolute favorite unisex summer frag. Vetiver. And I was always sunburnt as a kid so always smelled like Noxema! Pre-sunscreen days. I am glad you reminded me of these wonderful products!
I use Labello everyday to moisture my lips before i go to bed. My favorites are the scrub line. It just has the word scrub and maybe what apoears to be sugar on top but it runs out fast. Still the formula is lighter than the regular one so i prefer it. And they smell really good.
Based in the uk 🇬🇧 Adore everything that’s vintage ❤️ I use ponds cold cream along with witch hazel, also I have all the yardley scents. Can you cover oil of ulay now known as Olay for some reason
I use the rosé salve, my aunt who was a make up artist in Hollywood uses on her clients. She recommended it because it didn’t dry out your lips. You can use it as a blush and sheer eyeshadow.
Living here in Florida I have had to have a few skin cancer biopsies. In order to speed up the healing I make a salve of vasoline and tumeric. Works like a charm.
I love when you do these kind of videos. You did one on perfume and their bottles. I now collect small perfume bottles and place them on a mirror tray like yours. I still use Pears soap after watching, products still made video. Thanks Laura
I managed to get three of the limited edition little round pots- two eye shadows, one blush- ashes of roses (Rose d'Or was the actual shade) was my favourite...
I still use Vaseline for additional moisture over face cream at night, and cleanse skin with Ponds cold cream and wash cloth to exfoliate skin. Feels great.
Fascinating video! I'd like to add Caswell-Massey, US, 1752. They still produce their soaps and Number Six was the first American developed fragrance in 1772. It's still a popular men's scent.
I love everything Shisedo. Noxema for sunburn from going to the shore if my bathing suit moved... Mom used it. Ponds is great to remove makeup. Love Nivea. Vasaline forever... And the toner in Rose. Love your channel. Xxx
For about 5 years I worked with an estate agent. As it's mainly used to care for and sell the household if elderly people I would often come across really old clothes, hats and yes- beauty products. The most common was decades old tins of Nivea. My elderly Tias only used Ponds. Their skin was always so soft!
I use Thayers Rose Petal toner every day, morning upon arising and at night after makeup removal and a shower. The milk cleanser is very nice as well, but I use it after a thorough makeup removal with a different product. I am 71! My granddaughter is using it as well now, along with a cleanser. She is 11.
I used to use Pears soap but recent formulations available in New York drug store chains tend to smell like oil. Vaseline, I do use on my feet, and it works well on minor nicks and scrapes. Acqua di Parma smells very fresh and clean. I have used many bottles, and it is one of my favorite fragrances.
Your amazing Laura !! I love your voice, and you're so beautiful. I will love a video of your favorite picks and personal beauty tips. Thanks for sharing
I love Noxzema, Listerine, Vaseline, and Ivory. I actually leave Noxzema on overnight on pimples and it helps a great deal. Vaseline is my go-to overnight lip mask during the winter.
I use Vaseline on cuts, it stops the bleeding if you put on a really thick layer and stops the cut from sticking to bandages. But the cut needs oxygen to heal so I only do it during the day and at night I let the cuts ‘breath’ so they can heal
I use Vaseline to moisturize my lips mostly, but if I feel my hands are dry I will put some on. Also good for the rashes my thighs get in the summer from the chafing 😂
So many great vintage products. I use Ponds, Nivea skincare and body lotion. I buy Labello lip balm at the dollar store - so much better than Chapstick. I also love Lily of the Valley EDP by Yardley and their lavender soap. Vaseline is just a staple. Thanks for the well-researched video. ❤

Hi, I used Le mer for 3 years… I switched to Nivea from Germany and like it much better my skin also looks great! I’m also a licensed dermatologist so I feel I know my creams. Ty
Noxema’s fragrance is nostalgic for me -instantly takes me back to my teen years of using it on my face for teen acne cleansing and my body for sunburns
I use Vaseline for a slugging also but it is known for helping heal, cuts by providing a protective layer over the skin, and will help any kind of antibacterial ointment applied first the same way it helps trap skin care ingredients when you use it for slugging. But please please please tell me what eyeshadow you are wearing because I love it so much and I have a similar skin pallor to you.
Hello Laura, thanks to you, I’ve tried some of those old products and I keep buying Noxzema. Ponds is too rich, too greasy imo. I once bought Eudermine, mostly for the bottle. Nothing to complain about but it’s expensive.
How about 4711 the first Cologne. Unisex and fresh smell. it's a go to for me. Must have it in hand. My father uses it when he feels tired to invigorate his mood
I use to use Noxema as a night mask as an 80's teen. In addition, gargled with Listerine when I had a sore throat back in the day. I never knew Nivea was a German brand.
The original Listerine is my favorite and I use it twice a day. My family thinks I am crazy. They all use the blue or green mouth washes. I call them wimps lol
My mother used Vaseline on me as a lip balm, as well as for make up remover, esp cheaper ones with bright colors like magentas non powder blushes, as well as cool aid mustaches.

That's good to know! Walmart stopped carrying Yardley and I have been looking for it. ❤

Very interesting 🎉🎉😮
This was fascinating!
My dermatologist recommends using Vaseline and a bandage whenever he removes a mole or takes a skin biopsy.
Mine too!

I’m a makeup artist and I always thought Le mer was overrated. I think most people don’t really need anything special with their moisturizer.
If you're a real derm you should have know La Mer is overrated way before three years?
Vaseline is used worldwide by hospitals. Petrolatum (Vaseline) is used in many skincare products.

I love Noxzema, I have been using it to shave for over a decade now. It has become an essential staple in my self care routine.
My mom swears by Pond's, I only knew about it, because of her.
I love it!
Laura got me onto Pond's. I use it every night. It had disappeared from our shelves for two years, but finally came back recently.
