      Same, I have never had a personal runner that I haven't sold it after 3-7 years for less than I bought it. I had a van once that paid me out twice on insurance over 4 years that it paid for itself twice, the insurance and tax over the time and a few grand left over.

    Its bad news really if the prices aren't coming back down as its a unnatural pricing market. The 5k+ market is still 40% overpriced even your prices are a good 25% over. The whole industry is unsustainable with 15 million used cars sat around the uk it's really a buyers market.

    Lol, it seems to change from week to week. "No money in second hand motors, luxury cars and EVs will soon be exchanged for three crisp wrappers." "Dealers can't make any money, going out of business." Now they are pricey again? From a punters point of view I'd love to see the dramatic market rollercoaster translate to lower retail prices for "ordinary" cars, but curiously they went high and stayed high.🤔

    • @gravemind6536
      @gravemind6536 6 месяцев назад +1

      Because its supply and demand the market is being flooded with new cars that people don't want and can't afford so they're buying used cars. Small cheap economical cars are being killed off and the value of existing ones is therefore rising. People are paying for relability and cheap running costs more than they are the car itself. EVs are overpriced to begin with and their drop in value is them dropping to the price they should have been to start with Vauxhall Corsa and Pegueot E 308 both had £10k knocked off brand new list prices by dealerships to make them shift you can just look on auto trader. Luxury cars always lose lots of value as they start to become a massive liability with age.

    • @EnglishTMTB
      @EnglishTMTB 6 месяцев назад

      @@gravemind6536That plus parts availability and high repair costs mean more cars are getting written off that probably shouldn't be... I think dealers know that cars £5k+ retail are not selling so the demand is for trade values around £2500 or so even if that is technically over book. Buyers won't know whether the retail value is over or not, they are just happy to be able to afford the car. "Cheap" cars are overpriced but that's where the demand is. Give up your £200 per month PCP and buy a car for cash and own it.

    Hi Lee, I worked for Ford in S Wales building the Zeta (1.6, 1.8 & 2.0L) and Sigma (1.25, 1.4 & 1.6 later became 1.5) engines, the 1.8L Zeta was the first engine to be built. These facilities were installed when Ford build engines to last, the EcoBoost engines are built in Cologne and Romania🫣

      Why does it matter where they are built? It's how they are designed that is important.

      Hi phil, yes the zeta and sigma engines are decent units. Been doing a lot or research into Eco boost recently and as you rightly say they are all made in Europe over the two plants mentioned. What i find curios is why the same engines are being recalled in the US but yet the same engines in the UK and EU are not. Very odd position to take when they are all made in the same place and will have the same issues.

      Yep - buy on engine...
      If it's an engine capable of huge miles, then starting on "high" miles still leaves loads left in the bank - as long as it's been cared for.
      Volvo 5-pots do it for me - a good D5 will do silly miles, so buying at 100k+ is nothing 😁

      @@gerryryan2142 those TDI V6 engines are great if looked after properly, as you say... Some cars no amount of maintenance seems to help.
      There does seem to be a kind of perverse logic in going primarily for cars and/or engines that imply proper maintenance is more likely... But it's served me well 🤣
      Certain brands (Volvo's with Volvo engines, pre-Geely, usually seem/seemed to have better than average service history and preventative maintenance records, likewise with many Honda's and Toyota's on their first owners) or engines that only petrolheads would really want, likewise - I don't tend to trust SUVs on this metric, but there will always be exceptions I'm sure.
      Oh and for me, it's always manual boxes, for several reasons!

    Noticed you were sat in the c1 connection, the most bizarre combination of colours being Black and the Red. On this auction visit I did notice the old guy in the cap bought a fiesta, he kept walking upto the car then ignalling to the auctioneer, find it quite interesting how people bid without trying to give the game away. Did think you may have bought the blue 107 with it being the right colour and door model, but guess with tight margins. Possible could sell those cars with no warranty and mark them up by £400 perhaps. I do not think prices will ever go down to pre covid levels mainly because of inflation. Showing me age my dad bought a 1980 escort new shape at the time for £3500. A year later traded it in for a VW Jetta and got £3900 on the escort. Once inflation is in prices remain inflated. Thanks for the great insight into the auction.

      I sell all my cars with warranty, trying to sell stuff sold as seen is a big no no when selling to the public for lower margins. Yes it was a c1 connection, we put the door handles back to black and it sold the first day on sale. Thanks for watching phil
