Scream 3 is underrated. It's the first true comedy in the horror/comedy franchise. The movie leans fully into the comedic aspects because a trilogy in this universe is kind of ridiculous, and like always is self aware. But under all of the comedy is the darkest motivation for any killer in the franchise: Roman wanting to destroy his entire bloodline because he's a child of rape and knew it. So he kills his mom and a stand in for his father because Milton participated in and covered up Maureen's rape. Then he tries to finish it with Sidney. That's dark.

Blake is MVP! Scream 3 is so underrated. It has the best meta commentary in the entire franchise, and the fact that it was produced by Harvey Weinstein? Wes was calling him out over twenty years ago right under his nose. Iconic. Also, this is the best acted of the movies. Neve is so on point, and Jennifer is everything.

I love the whole scene between Roman and Sidney. You can really feel that sibling vibe between the arguing back and forth and the fighting. One of the things that I love about Sidney is she doesn't care who you are she's not afraid to talk shit back to them and can be savage lol (except for Randy he did that and got killed for shit talking on Billy with Ms. Loomis). She is mostly the one who doesn't beg for her life and actually fights back with balls (well, Gale and Dewey did a little bit in the 3rd). The ending, though between Roman and Sidney, when they held each other's hand that right there is my all-time favorite moment between a hero/vilian, it felt so bittersweet between them both. Like you can see, she feels for him cause he was rejected by their mother, but at the same time, it's about survival and doing what she has to do to survive. For him it's he always wanted a family but got rejected by his birth mother, and then the jealousy took over. Also, it didn't help with it being his 30th birthday and became a trigger that made him snap and went after Sidney.
    - So, the original plan was Roman was just going to be the puppet master staying behind the curtain kind of thing and set it up to where Billy and his accomplice which ended up being Stu to ONLY go after Maureen Prescott. But after they killed her, Billy and Stu got a taste for it and decided to continue on for themselves with Sidney and their peers. Scream 2 was a domino effect. It was just about revenge for Ms. Loomis and just hired Mickey as her lackey. Then Scream 3, it coming into his 30th birthday a reminder of being abandoned by his own mom and directing a movie about Sidneys life, it was Iike a mental trigger for him. He ended up going after her due to the jealousy of their mom only wanting Sidney and wanting nothing to do with him. Maureen even tried to convince him that his mom, "Rina Reynolds," was dead, so it struck a nerve, and that's exactly what he did.
( Roman : And once I supplied the motivation... all the kid needed was a few pointers. Have a partner to sell out in case he got caught (Stu), find someone to frame (Cotton), it was like he was making a movie.
Sidney : You... this is all because of you.
    Roman : I'm a director, Sid, I direct.
    Sidney : Ah.
Roman : I had no idea that they were gonna make a film of their own (Billy and Stu creating the image of Ghostface on their own to continue on with their killing). I mean, intoducing Sidney, the victim, Sidney the survivor, SIDNEY THE STAR! )

“How the fuck are we supposed to learn our lines when there’s a new script every 15 minutes?!” was a meta dig at the movie itself. This movie had 3 scripts, and everyone had to deliver lines from each script. The script from Scream 2 was leaked during filming, so the intention behind having 3 scripts was that if another leak happened, nobody would know which one was real (hence the line about having 3 scripts to keep the ending off the internet). Unfortunately, this also meant that none of the people who died in the movie knew whether or not they died until the movie was released, because each possibility was filmed, and they didn’t get to see which scenes made it in until it was out. Not to mention getting lines confused and having to do scenes over and over again. The cast was understandably frustrated about it, so that line was added in reference to the Scream 3 filming process.

Couldn’t agree more, Scream 3 gets so much hate when it’s really one of the best ones. The story, the fight between Sidney and Roman, the kills, the comedy, and the Randy cameo even from the grave. It was such a bittersweet cameo but I enjoyed it. Scream 2 is the weakest one for me since it’s mainly about Billy’s mom wanting revenge which is predictable. Mickey was such a weak Ghostface, he was just simply crazy and just did a lot of Ms. Loomis’s work. Plus we lose Randy in 2 so an immediate low score just for that.

I love Scream 3 in opposition to a lot of the fandom. Probably my second favorite Scream. WIth a few quibbles, the final act is perhaps the best of the franchise, from the time Sydney arrives at the mansion. The final showdown IS the best of the franchise. Sydney, in perfect health, went blow for blow but still got her ass beat like never before by a truly menaning Ghostface in Roman, and still managed to end him like the final girl she truly is. Also love the "metaness" of it as Scream 3 was undergoing on-the-spot rewrites just like Stab 3, and the Milton storyline (that surprisingly made the final cut) parallels and calls out the infamous Harvey Weinstein, a Hollywood kingmaker and an exec producer of the first four Screams, and his antics which weren't known by the general public when the film was released. Glad you guys liked it! Finally some kindred spirits!

The Jay & Silent Bob cameo was fun too. What's funny was that,
    their respected films made a pack at the time of Scream 3 to cameo in each other's film;
so in the Silent Bob movies, Wes Craven appeared as himself appearing to direct
the then fictional 4th Scream film in the Silent Bob universes, then the 2 characters appeared here,
then only 11 years after in 2011, the 'actual' 4th Scream film would be officially post-production.
Parker Posey did great as Jennifer Jolie, and in the original Scream 3 script, Angelina was actually
a 2nd secret killer but they pulled out of that idea. Though I heavily wish to cement the belief
that she still was a 'secret' killer in the final released product of film because Angelina's
black boots can be seen when Ghostface pulls Sidney through the window of the Woodsboro Set,
and she also appeared at the back of the police car appearing to play innocent,
and it would be likely to believe she secretly took part in the Hollywood killings
because she wouldn't have "accidentally" left her hairbrush in the bathroom,
if she didn't want Sidney to follow her into the set, luring her into a trap.
I fully see that Roman secretly knew Angelina, his partner, was caught in the act,
either he knew just somehow, or was told (off camera or was implied to have been told)
by Angelina that Sidney caught her in the act, so Roman betrayed Angelina at the last minute
and killed her, to throw off suspicion from her, also knowing she may be a liability to Roman
if either were to get caught and she'd legally testify against Roman, selling him out
just as Billy tried to do with Stu Macher, so he killed Angelina, his own secret partner
in order to fully secure the moment he and Sidney will meet alone & battle it out in the finale.
Also one final note to add to this was that Wes Craven despite having no Kevin Williamson
to write the film with him, he managed to also slip in a Weinstein character by introducing John Milton
who literally summarized the dark corners of the Hollywood Elite Industry that is filled with criminals,
all the Scream 3 being co-produced by Harvey Weinstein himself. Wes Craven was the only person
to directly call out or reference Weinstein himself, because he wasn't afraid of being silenced by Harvey.
In fact, Weinstein was afraid of him, because he had him practically cornered with that call-out.

Scream 3 is severely underrated. I think it’s a fantastic wrap up to the trilogy. And it feels like a proper ending. Now scream 4 for some reason has a lot more vocal fans but personally I think it’s the weakest. It goes from being a subversive send up of horror films to a true parody. And it’s only saving grace is a wild over the top sequence. But it’s just the worst in terms of the franchise. Although even a bad scream is better than most Horror flicks.

Scream 3 is hilarious, especially Parker Posey's performance. When this came out the majority of viewers (including myself) didn't like it as much as the first two. As a whole we may not have been in that much of a comedic mood and wanted to see full on horror; contrary to what the writers and producers thought regarding the events of the day. Viewers also may have wanted to see two villains and were disappointed with only one this time. I think now that the franchise has had so much longevity, viewers don't mind having a comedy in the mix. I think a lot of us after rewatch really do like it more and more. It's actually not my least fave anymore- You will find out why in the movies to come(but they are all still great). Thanks for a great reaction guys. Your insights are awesome.

Its amazing this movie is as good as it is given its production. They had a short time limit on the production. Then they had to do a major rewrite close to the start of filming, due to the columbine massacre. The original idea was having a group of students be the killer and stu being the leader. Obviously they couldnt have a group of highschoolers be the killer. The studio also censored the violence of the movie and wanted all the kills to happen off screen. Wes refused and they settled on the kills being mild. They also originally had a second killer in the rewrite and changed it to just one late into filming, which is why some scenes seem impossible for one person to do. Most obvious example is the studio chase with sidney. They did an amazing job

I'm on team "Scream 3 is the weakest one" but as a die hard fan, it always makes me happy to see people enjoying it more than we did back in the day. I think it's a generational thing. People really hated this movie until a few years ago, but for some reason most of the recent reactions and new fans actually like it a lot. Now Scream 4 is less divisive, mostly everyone loves it and thinks it's one of the best. I can't wait for your reactions!

My theory is that it simply didn’t work as the closing chapter of a trilogy that started off with two sensational entries. And thus it received massive backlash when it came out.
But now, new fans just see 3 as the third entry in a six film franchise, and there’s no pressure to be an amazing final installment of a series.
It’s also the silliest of the franchise, and a nice break from the more serious tone of the other films.

I love this one - I like the nostalgia you get with hearing the dialogue from the first one, the way Sidney is still wearing Derek's letters, and then meeting Martha and seeing Randy again. Throwing out another fun fact though: David Arquette actually admitted that he's responsible for Gale's bangs in this movie, lol. Apparently he convinced Courtney Cox and her hair stylist to go for a Bettie Page look and it didn't work out the way they wanted. Also, sorry if this one is a repeat but when Sidney stabs Roman in the back? Neve Campbell missed her mark and actually stabbed Scott Foley so that scream is 100% real. (She did that to Skeet Ulrich with the umbrella in the first one - she managed to hit him right in a spot where he's got a plate or something from surgery so that groan was also real.) A lot of people kind of look down on this one because it's not as bloody/gory as the others so I'm so glad that you guys liked this!

So many people think the voice changer was so unbelievable.. I personally love it. Roman was a music video and movie DIRECTOR IN HOLLYWOOD. He could have easily gotten it from somewhere in the industry OR could have paid some tech genius to make him a personalized voice changer. Then, with collecting the voices to be able to use. Cotton has his own tv show, Gale is a reporter, Dewey worked onset with him, He probably looked into the stuff that Maureen (Rina Reynolds) was in to get hers, and then got Sidneys voice from the first time he called her when he used her mothers voice.
It was one of the smartest plays on here. It really made you think.. are you really talking to that person, or is it ghostface masking behind their voices. Like when Roman called Sarah Darling, it was like hiding in plain sight. We didn't know if it actually was him or someone else. He used Sidneys voice to lure Dewey and Gale to the mansion. So he could turn around to use them as bait to lure Sidney to him away from the cops. I knew right away it wasn't actually Sid. The caller, when talking to Dewey the caller mentioned being protected by the LAPD at the end of it. The caller had a like a little chuckle when talking about the cops. Then the caller cut Dewey off and hung up on him. Sidney would never do that to Dewey.

This was my first scream movie so it has a special place in my heart and I always defend this movie it’s a great time. Not as good as the first 2 but it’s still pretty good lots of fun. I love the new setting in Hollywood how it’s used, the trio still bring good performance’s especially Neve she was serving with her acting, I love the 3rd act the mansion massacre to the final fight which is the best fight between a ghostface killer and Sidney, great chase scenes, a good opening that gave us stakes when they killed off Cotton, the message regarding how horrible Hollywood can be, ghostface is great, i like Roman as the first solo ghostface, I like the new voice changer , I love Parker Posey, and exploring Sidney’s trauma more caused by 2 movies prior is very interesting. The kills are fine just regular stabs, the weakest of the scream casts, it’s not as horror as the first 2 which is fine for me it’s really entertaining. Scream 4 definitely brings things back around with the tone and the horror.

  • @screamr2d2

I always loved this movie. When I first watched it it actually made me kinda sad when she killed her brother. My big brother is my hero, we share the same mother but we have different dads. So I guess being only ten when the movie came out, I was pretty messed up when the siblings couldn't just "work it out"
My naive self thought if Sidney could've been like " you're my brother, I accept you, yada yada" then he would have chilled out and everything would have ended up ok. Stupid in hindsight, but as I said, I was ten years old.
I think the biggest clue was the casting of Scott Foley. He and Neve Campbell totally pass as siblings, they look a lot alike.

Scream 3! A threequel! Most people dislike this one the most idk why but I think it's full of nothing but highlights (like fake Gail's hair).
The stunts and set pieces, the Randy return, the abominable bangs on Courtney's head, Kronk, the best opener to a Scream movie maybe? with 0%Cotton lol, the deranged fashion, the dynamic duo of Gail and other Gail, THEE Cary Fischer, the general goofy vibe and the icon that is Roman. It's all looking camp right in the eye! (iykyk)
Neve Campbell does the work as always! The sharpest script in terms of whit in my opinion, and maybe even exploring the themes. The social commentary on studio politics/issues that certain producers probably didn't notice 👀 and the voice changer adds so much to it, it's a really underrated Scream.
"the sibling fights go crazy" lmao was such a great line, look forward to more from you all and thanks for watching this series

This movie is not as bad as people try to make it. Some of the comedy people annoyed me overall, Roman was a damn good shostface. He did all that by himself!
I also didnt understand people being mad at the voice changer. I think it was ahead of its time but its nothing wrong with a movie dipicting what their idea of what technology may look like in the future. Its kind of like the reality tv, ctv footage style approach they took is halloween ressurrection. Both were great ideas, just ahead of their time.

Dudes, adding context for stuff you are too young to catch: the shot with the 2 dudes where Blake asks, Are "we missing context?"--well yeah you were. Those guys were Kevin Smith and Silent Bob. They were really hot about the time this movie having made a number of hip, alternative movies including a series called "Clerks" about millennials working in a video store. You guys might like those. You also didn't seem to recognize the director Milton was the same guy who played Bishop in Aliens. And the bodyguard Stone starred in as "The Tick," a campy Antman kind of thing. But became really well known for a comedic role in "Seinfeld."
