  • This is a member of the Col de Dame family of fig varieties, which is known to produce great tasting figs. True to this reputation, I got two great tasting CdDN figs off my tree today. In fact, they were probably two of the best tasting figs I've had all year. Of note, I did ripen these figs under the grow lights in my grow room, which provides some evidence that grow lights can be used as a good strategy to ripen top-quality figs late in the season on the east coast.

I watched this video last year and decided I wanted to try growing a fig tree. I bought an Olympian. ( I’m in zone 5A). Got 2 figs because I got it in July and it arrived rather dried up from the heat. Got 2 figs but had to bring it in for the same reason. Under a grow light and right around thanksgiving they ripened and were fantastic. Hopefully I’ll get a Breba crop early and then a main crop earlier than this year.

I've made the same mistake. With the hot peppers. And I didn't realize it till my eyebrows started burning. And my nose started burning and somewhere else started burning so I must have itched a few places. And had to take a shower immediately!!!

If I were you, I would get the biggest greenhouse I could afford or fit on my property, and then hang a few (or just one) 400W/600W lights in them, whether it is HPS, CMH, or LEDs. Then I would put an Anden dehumidifier in there to deal with the excess moisture in the air. That may seem like a lot but I'm spending thousands on fig plants as it is, and to me it wouldn't be too much to go the extra step so I can harvest every fig on my trees at a much higher quality than otherwise possible.

I tried the cooking oil shortly after I filmed the video. I also tried soaking in milk. It eventually went away
