Ross thanks for the heads up about pruning Smith. The first couple years fruits were amazing… then I pruned. Hardly any fruit and if so quality was terrible. Now I know I won’t make this mistake on my CLBC when it’s time. Thanks!
I went to just fruits and exotics nursery in Florida about a hour and a half I just checked out the website just fruit and exotics they are sold out but you can start a account with them online and add the trees you want to your wishlist
@@TheRooflesstoofless thanks to Ross the fig boss he done a great video on websites you can buy fig trees and cuttings I learned a lot about figs from him
Great variety video ross! I heard smith isn’t that cold hardy, how does it do in the ground in langhorne? Have you a lot of figs from the in ground tree Smith tree ?
6:58 The perfect shot to pause and admire this gorgeous fig 😍I heard you recommend this awhile ago and I was lucky enough to pick one up today! Can't wait until I'm doing side-by-side tests with this, Black Madeira, I-258, Victoria... 🤤
I believe the assessment of sunlight is correct. My 1st year in ground cutting grew 4 feet last year and even though winter came before it ripened any fruit it did set about 30-40. It gets around 12 hours of blistering Louisiana sun. I guarantee I will get fruit off it this year. My Smith is planted right next to it and grew at the same rate and was planted at the same time. I just walked my orchard and it and my BMKK are both starting to break dormancy. I also just grafted CLBC and BM to a Celeste cutting left over from last year that has also just started leafing out. If it takes I think I’m gonna plant it in a local park with no label just to start more controversy. Yeah I’m a sh*t starter. Haha
@@TheRealHonestInquiry Grafting… if the Scion and rootstock are close I use the Z graft, if the Scion is smaller I use the cleft. That’s pretty much it for figs, they are easy compared to say Citrus. It’s all in the timing and a decent technique. Practice this spring on your largest tree. Snip a tip and graft it right back where it came from, then do another. That’s how I started years ago on my massive satsuma tree
Hey I want a rain check on your pickle recipe for later. Picked up Shishito seeds. No more projects. Im end this year by making eggplant fries and pickling Shishitos. That is it. I am limit@@RossRaddi
I've just got my hands on a cutting of this variety not sure how fell it will do in the united kingdom 😆 also i bought afew others Campaniere , Joualle Ambre FDM , Dauphine , Maltese Beauty
This video was filmed in October of 2023.

Currently deciding between getting a cutting of CLBC or just getting a 3ga potted on from justfruitsandexotics. Thanks for the overview!

Wow that's diabolical! 😈 Can I ask your favorite grafting style for figs, oh sower of carica-nfusion?

I would like to see you doing brix tests on your figs.
You got me wanting to try Shishito's. Thinking about growing them.
How do you prepare or eat your Shishito's?
You can sauteed or grill them. My favorite way to eat them is pickled.

Can I buy a couple cuttings?
Sure. On my website in November.
I put off getting this variety for far too long. I really don’t mind smaller figs.
Don't get me wrong. It's not small, but smaller than Black Madeira on average.
Umm yeah, we're going to need to know about those 'better than CDD' varieties, lol. Upcoming video?
Yes Ross, do tell!!!
Rossi boy, i know de la Roca is one of them… what are the others hmm?
