I've read everyone;s comments and you have a right to your opinion. I came to this channel because I was drawn to the purgatory and catholic content and it made me to closer to Christ, but it seems that everything has to be political these days. This was one of the only channel's where I wasn't bombarded with politics, etc., and I wish that the Uniquely Mary channel would have stuck with just religious content. With that being said from my religious perspective I don't think Christ would have given a speech like this nor would have taken cheap shots at females. In fact, Mary the Mother of Jesus is the queen of purgatory, and Mary Magdalene was Jesus's confidante. Me along with other women have expressed grave concerns over Harrison's speech and it's leaning in a direction where women's voices are not heard with this new anti-gender movement. I pray that this channel will go back to it's original content (Mary the mother of God and Purgatory). God Bless you all!

I got no anti-woman sentiment from his speech. In fact it was pro-woman because I felt it supported women who choose their vocation of motherhood. In this society, I certainly don’t feel very supported or valued if I want to put motherhood above career. I found it refreshing❤️

In Maria Simma's book, Get Us Out Of Here. She speaks on this topic: (PAGE 154)
"Have the Poor Souls said anything about the women's movement?"
"No, not in those terms except that no women should be around the altar. In the secular world it is quite all right that they compete with the men on an equal basis. Have their own careers is fine but ONLY as long as the family is not in any way ignored. If either the children or the spouse are in any way neglected, the other one will have to suffer a lot for it later. This is most definitely a serious and most divisive sin."
Being a SAHM/homemaker is a beautiful decision spouses can make with one another. But I don't believe we should be villainizing women who have chosen to have a career, if they are able to do so without neglecting their family. On the contrary, men who are sole providers for their families should not be neglecting their spouse or kids either.

Beautiful response from the Benedictine Sisters that maybe you should read. Also if Butker knew his Catholic faith as well as he thinks he does…he should have began saying that the Catholic Church has THREE VOCATIONS…single, religious and married life! It would have served him well to research his audience but rather, he made it about him and not the graduates! I feel so sorry for those young women! 🙁 Good for the Benedictine Sisters for making this statement! 💜
As a founding institution and sponsor of Benedictine College, the sisters of Mount St. Scholastica find it necessary to respond to the controversial remarks of Harrison Butker as commencement speaker:
Statement in Response to the 2024 Benedictine College Commencement Address
The sisters of Mount St. Scholastica do not believe that Harrison Butker’s comments in his 2024 Benedictine College commencement address represent the Catholic, Benedictine, liberal arts college that our founders envisioned and in which we have been so invested.
Instead of promoting unity in our church, our nation, and the world, his comments seem to have fostered division. One of our concerns was the assertion that being a homemaker is the highest calling for a woman. We sisters have dedicated our lives to God and God’s people, including the many women whom we have taught and influenced during the past 160 years. These women have made a tremendous difference in the world in their roles as wives and mothers and through their God-given gifts in leadership, scholarship, and their careers.
Our community has taught young women and men not just how to be “homemakers” in a limited sense, but rather how to make a Gospel-centered, compassionate home within themselves where they can welcome others as Christ, empowering them to be the best versions of themselves. We reject a narrow definition of what it means to be Catholic. We are faithful members of the Catholic Church who embrace and promote the values of the Gospel, St. Benedict, and Vatican II and the teachings of Pope Francis.
We want to be known as an inclusive, welcoming community, embracing Benedictine values that have endured for more than 1500 years and have spread through every continent and nation. We believe those values are the core of Benedictine College.
We thank all who are supportive of our Mount community and the values we hold. With St. Benedict, we pray, “Let us prefer nothing whatever to Christ, and may he lead us all together to life everlasting.”

A truly devout Catholic is not interested in what some liberal sisters have to say. They became Woke before the word Woke was popularized. After the college was established by combining Mount St. Scholastica and Benedictine they haven't been that instrumental. They tossed the habits for bad habits. They are feminist with ba lapel pin. It's very telling that they don't have novices joining. When the cloistered Carmelite Nuns and habit wearing orders like the IHM Sisters have to continue to expand with more space and new convents. They are growing continually. 🤔
Here's a comment from someone who was a student years ago at Mt. St. Scholastica.
Here's a comment from the Caritas in Veritate page that explains a lot.
Mount St Scholastica used to be the girls' college campus, and across the town of Atchison, KS, St Benedict's was the men's campus. In the early 70's they merged schools and became Benedictine College....eventually located entirely on the larger men's campus. The Mount is now just the convent and some community outreach, I believe. The sisters that taught me at the Mount were very Catholic and wore habits. That gradually changed. Fortunately, Benedictine College is authentically Catholic and following the Magisterium, unlike most Catholic colleges today. I'm disappointed that they felt they needed to distance themselves from a very good graduation speaker.

Beautiful commencement speech- although I would ask to please pray for my family members, as they had varying degrees of agreement with this man. My cousins hated it, my parents had mixed reactions, and most didn’t pay it any mind at all.
Some interesting points my parents brought up- that Butker was right in most of what he said but wrong to say what he said in that context, that a commencement speech should be focused on the students’ careers and futures, and that what he said about women should be extended to men as well: that there is a significant divide between happiness from a career and happiness from family, and that neither is mutually exclusive. Also, if the university didn’t want to portray their values as Butker’s “personal” ideology, they should not have gotten him in the first place, but rather, someone who actually graduated from their university and brought a speech that more closely aligned with the institutions values- not just accepting whatever he said because he was a famous football player.
What are your thoughts on this? I think they brought up some interesting points but also could’ve been more open to hearing the whole speech as opposed to drawing conclusions from summaries by biased media sources, whether it be the atheist left or the money-worshipping evangelical right.

@@patricialauriello3805 actually credit cards have not been beneficial for anyone but society sure has convinced people it's great. If you think all of the changes such as having lots of debt, fatherless homes, rampant immorality, most mothers out of the home while others care for the children, the idolization of sports at every level, people staring at screens for hours a day, couples shaking up, killing millons of preborn babies, sex outside of marriage, has improved our world so be it. So many LIES people have bought into.
The world will never be paradise, that ended in the Garden. I know for sure though that in my 64 years I've watched a major rapid decline of morality, and immense amount of lost souls. I'll be the first to say I was a part of it at times in my life, so I take some blame.
After enough pain I found the answer and it's my relationship with Jesus our Savior, God his Father, our friend the Holy Spirit, Mother Mary, St. Joseph and many other Saints. I pray hours a day for this world. I know the only answer for my children, grandchildren, and all others is walking the walk and not just talking the talk.
I'm done spending anymore time on this screen. More important things to do.
Good loves us ALL immensely and longs for a committed relationship with us. That's all I hope and pray for, for every single human being.
Not the God that suits them, or the one they feel most comfortable with, or the one they've created in their minds. Used to be, decades back, when most knew and agreed on what was right from wrong, moral from immoral. Even those who weren't churched or professed Christians. Not anymore! People want it their way and if we disagree their being offended is suppose to change the Truth.
The pendulum has swung so FAR OUT I'm not so sure it'll come back down. But I still know that God is always waiting for us to turn to Him. Instead of kicking Him out of our world. He doesn't ever force Himself on us. I'll give you a break now.

Whether the outraged are Catholics or not, I think they need to take a step back and wonder if God is outraged at our own sins and the sins of our country. As Catholics ourselves, it is our duty to stand up and support Harrison even if it means we are ridiculed as well. I've been watching your video's for quite some time now and was so inspired by your stories of purgatory, but it has deeply saddened me that you support Harrison Butker speech. This mindset that women are second class citizens sickens me to my very core. His speech is straight out of the Handsmaid's tale playbook, and you support misogyny. It's this way of thinking that is destroying society to it's very core! I know that the bible treats women like cattle, but it was written over 2,000 years ago and we now live in the year 2024. I believe in God, and Jesus as my lord and savior and this isn't what Jesus wanted. Men are now twisting the bible to make it fit their own narrative and that women are not equals. Although I thoroughly agree with the absolute importance of the family and the criticality of the roles that mother and father play, he seemed to spend a lot of his words in his speech making accusations and telling people to stay in their own lanes. Jesus specifically addresses those who make accusations in the New Testament when he tells Mary Magdalene “Is there no one left to accuse you? Well neither do I”. Let us be less like Pharisees and more like Jesus. Let us be more humble like Mother Mary, who is the most perfectly created being, and who was also born as a woman, not a man.

@@Jordan22220 Speaking for myself, I watched the entire speech. He is definitely a good speaker, and some aspects of it resonated with me, but condemnation does not necessarily lead to conversion of hearts. Even the apostle Paul who was quite strict in his practices exerted a lot of effort adapting himself to the Gentiles he was converting to help bring about their conversion. Harrison’s speech was essentially throwing out Novus Ordo. I fully support those Catholics who wish to attend Traditional Latin Mass, and I appreciate his personal decision to attend that format and describe his love for it. However, when he gave instructions to the students to move to places where parishes host Latin Mass, he went out of his own lane. I did, however, appreciate his call for us to return to fasting, prayer, and the sacraments. I will always support that. Personally, I would just choose to express that message without condemning priests and bishops.
