Really appreciate the effort you put into transferring these. It's great knowing there's someone out there that can share this stuff online. There's something about logos and trailers presented on film that I really like, but I can't put my finger on it
Thanks so much for this Jonathan. I've heard about this legendary trailer on the Film-Tech forums and I never thought I'd see it until today. IIRC, the trailer was sent out to non-THX theaters in mono and that sounds to be the version here. THX theaters did get a Dolby A version, which was once said to have the illusion of split-surrounds, supposedly incredible for a Dolby A track though I'd have to hear it for myself. But the mono version is a grand enough find.
Are you able to extract the stereo track from the print or no? It kind of makes sense now, the mono print was also supposed to have a green band, which isn't in seen here.
I saw this trailer in some sort of surround-equipped theater as a young teenager, and it left such a impression on me (especially the part toward the end where Wayne strums his guitar and the THX sound comes out of it, and he "points"it to different places - I distinctly remember it panning left to right and front to back) that I always wanted to see it again, and I was really disappointed that the Wayne's World 2 DVD didn't have the trailer, presumably due to rights licensing issues with THX. Fast forward and now and then over the last 10 years I kept an eye out for the 35mm teaser trailer on eBay, and after lots of false starts (plenty of full trailers, etc.) I finally laid my hands on a copy with the intention of doing what Jonathan has already done here - scanning the film and posting it online. With the mono sound issue here, I unspooled a bit of mine had a quick look, and it appears that ther are two parallel 'waveforms' in the optical area of the print, does that mean it's stereo? Or is it possibly dual-channel mono? Also, is there any way of determining if my copy is Dolby A encoded just by looking at it? The film doesn't seem to have any kind of leader or information with it. Does whether or not it's Dolby A affect the 'surroundiness' of it? I'm a digital surround guy so I don't know much about film projection but I thought that Dolby A was a noise reduction technology. If it is a stereo track, is it possible it carries some kind of matrix encoding equivalent to Dolby Pro-Logic?
A Double waveform should mean 'stereo', yes. Remember that theater stereo is essentially 4.0 surround (left, right, center and a mono rear, all mixed into a two channel audio track). Dolby A is 4.0, Dolby SR is 5.0. The .1 is derived from putting anything under a low frequency to the subwoofer.
scope versions of this trailer were uploaded by 35mm movie trailers scans and ft depot. one with the green band and paramount logo at the start as well the full deep note and the other without said green band and paramount logo.
I wonder if when this trailer first premiered in theaters, people thought it was going to be the normal THX logo, until they saw the two main characters from the movie.
Paramount should of had put this THX teaser on their DVD & Blu-ray releases of "Wayne's World 2", it would have work this way!

I can pull audio in any format but I have no idea where this print is now. Plus this very print is known to have shitty audio so it's pretty pointless

It's a good trailer, but the audio sucks.
