A lady just hired me to build her deck, 4 foot by 24 foot,wants the whole thing in ground contact pressure treated lumber???any words of wisdom on how to sway her away from it?like what should i say?or should i just do it? Please help....lol
I would suggest to you this: Don’t try to sway, only inform with facts and costs. Homeowners are emotionally driven in these decisions, and sometimes just need it simplified for them. “Pressure Treated” lumber isn’t for water resistance…it’s treated for wood eating pests and organisms. Wood comes from the earth and is naturally “water resistant“. Maybe also offer Composite decking and pitch your facts on why it’s more expensive i.e lifetime warranty, no maintenance etc…Hope that helps!

I have been attempting to communicate that the end price of good wood and stains vs trex vs redoing it after it dries and separates would be....I think I might win her over soon though,did the top rail that's always in the sun,perfect mitered 45,should do a good job of screwing itself up before I finish the frame,then I'll try again.....if not,she gets a deck I realy don't want my name on.....is what it is I spose. ..
