Would you believe me if I said I have no idea what I’m doing?
That deck quality is about as good as your video quality
@@gerryk8644 Jesus Christ, Gerry have you ever read the comments on a video first before yappin’ off? 🤨
Cluster fu-k
I understand all the things that are wrong, but I'm not up to date on the flashing part. Just exactly what is it's purpose and how do you install it. I know about flashing on the roof but not sure about it at the deck level. Could you possibly make a short video on that.
I will happily make you a short brother! Make sure you Subscribe and I will have it produced for you by the end of the month! 🎉❤ And flashing on a deck goes UNDER the deck board and BEHIND the siding where the ledgerboard attaches to the structure. It’s to make sure the water flows away from the house.
Get what you pay for. Spent money on that trex decking and couldn’t buy 6x6 post
LoL
Two bottom plow for horses or mules

@@brandondorontich9226 HAHAH I WAS YOUR FIRST SUBSCRIBER ! I heard today one horse equals 2HP !
It's a hand plow
@@markrichardson8364 What’s the difference
The difference is that a tiller usually has rotating blades and used for turning the ground to release nutrients from deeper soil. A plow is a blade that cuts a groove into the soil, usually for planting.
As Dean Wormer would say, "Zero. Point. Zero."

Looks good from a far distance. When those screws holding the weight corrode away... Away she goes. Stainless for a few bucks more
Here in Kansas your footing don't have to be below frost if the deck/porch isnt connected to roof/overhang above
That’s really interesting because I would imagine Kansas with high winds a lot and primarily what to Base-To-Post connections are for, you know?
For all those saying you dont need to flash a ledger board, for the last two weeks ive been rebuilding the exterior basement wall of a basement because a wrap around deck wasnt flashed. By the time we finish around the entire house and put the deck back together the job is going to cost the customer well over 100k
So, straight sistered board leading out from the structure, supported evenly with those metal board holders, resting on those metal board holders attached to the concrete cylinder forms at the bottom? Just make everything even on all the corners and supports ever 2’ or 3’? Probably 2’. That seems sturdy.
Who you tryin’ to get sturdy on?!
Why on earth, would you NOT cut saddles into a 6x6 post?? So many non-deck builders out there!!
@@maxcoldest7196 Saddles. Good word! Thanks

Pillar* is the correct spelling and…yes…a whole house of flood cuts is a lot more…k & ?!
You see a lot of this on You Tube. People don't understand that nails and screws are fasteners. MASS carries load, fasteners are used to hold that mass in place, not to carry the load.
Oh look another random guy with words. A wiggling nail ain’t holding no MASS in place so wtf are talking about? I should listen to you over Timberlok or Simpson Strong Tie engineers? Get over yourself buddy.
@@TheSubtleBeast you apparently have a limited grasp of the English language. If you look at the construction you'll see the posts are not notched to carry the load bearing header. The main load bearing member is just nailed to the post, thus the builder is expecting the fasteners to carry the load. If the posts were notched to accept the header the nails would hold the header in place without being asked to carry the load. I suggest you re-read my original comment.
Looks good to me. I’ve seen worse coming from the videos of your friends doing you .
When I re-built my late parent's outdoor stairs, in some cases I used 5/8"x 6" LAG SCREWS in threes to attach the stile to the wall of the garage. I put more steel in fasteners than the "contractor" that built faulty stairs ever saw! I purchased FULL 2" loblolly pine (air dried at LEAST 7 years) to be termite-proof and basically weather-proof. The place that custom-cut the stiles told me they had have a guy with a can of WD-40 spray their 2" bandsaw blade for cooling to cut the loblolly. My Great-GrandPa was a REAL carpenter..."Do it right or do it over."
It would of been easier to just touchup the floor after drywall. Its gong to be covered but will let u think u fixed his job. Lol

Mold mitigation. The white paint is IAQ-6000. Yay! you learned a new thing 🥰
I don't think you're guy understood what you're wanting either. 🤷♂️
I don’t think you understand what’s going on either. I could help clarify if you really care.
@TheSubtleBeast please tell me what it is because I really don't understand. Is it moisture barrier?
The white paint on the framing members is called IAQ-6000 and is a mold killer.
I don't get this. I'm in the comments trying to figure out why you're cutting in subfloor and pre-drywall? It's all getting covered. Is that some sot of moisture barrier that goes under the carpet?
@@dennismeyers2008 www.fiberlock.com/product/iaq-6000/
You pay him cause he did do the work, and I bet next time you will pay more attention to what they are doing
I would subtract my time from his pay but you probably already paid.
Oh geez
I can honestly say that I've seen worse... believe it or not. I live in the Northeast and due to the extreme winter weather we experience here, which is mostly below freezing temperatures for at least 3 to 4 months. Code requires deck supports be on piers that are below the frost line, which is typically 3 to 4 feet. Think about that, because most homeowners can't understand why the holes are so deep and how much concrete it requires to fill them. It's one of the reasons that a properly built deck is going to cost 10 thousand dollars or more. Obviously, the size of the deck is a consideration as well, but taking the time to follow all the rules and regulations, like permitting and inspections with local code enforcement is part of what you're paying for... time is money and money is time. The biggest mistake homeowners make is hiring the guy who gives them the cheapest price. As a result, you get what you pay for, which very often is junk... sad to say.
I have always been grateful of the South’s frost line! 4’ holes is a lot of work. I’ve also seen a neat system lately called “Diamond Piers”. More expensive, but zero digging is required and it is installed with a fitting on a jackhammer. It’s cool, you should check it out!
ALWAYS use flashing!!! Ice and water behind ledger board. It will cost maybe $250-350 to buy and install and save you thousands in not having to do rot repair
