- David Attenborough faces off against a black widow spider, one of Australia's most deadly creatures!
Latrodectus is a broadly distributed genus of spiders with several species that are commonly known as the true widows. This group is composed of those often loosely called black widow spiders, brown widow spiders, and similar spiders
From David Attenborough's Micro Monsters: Over the course of three episodes, Sir David Attenborough takes viewers deep into the world of bugs. Pioneering macroscopic techniques allow Attenborough to explore in unparalleled detail the intricate, sophisticated behaviours of fascinating creatures and the complexity of the environments they build and inhabit, in a world normally hidden from the human eye. Each of the three episodes explore a different aspect of the little-known lives of insects, from the deceptive defensive mechanisms harboured by spiders and scorpions, to the creation of colonies and how social arrangements develop.

If it's gotten David Attenborough I watch it. Just a tip nature bites.
Same
agreed he's just built different
Haha that's literally why I clicked the video.
You could title these just david attenborough and I'd watch it all the time
HOW THE WIDOW SPIDER HUSBAND DIED
I'm a very simple man. I see David Attenborough, I watch.
The fact that even the smallest spiders can seemingly produce a kilometer's long string of silk is simply amazing to me.
More amazing than humans sending someone to the moon? Or splitting the Atom?
@@jasonantigua6825 it’s not a competition, mate.
@@manicsforever it is in my book sunshine!
@@jasonantigua6825 It's just amazing. Calm down dude.
@@DarkestGlitcher Sending people to the moon and splitting the Atom?
Soooo, where was the Black Widow spider?
They're the same genus and extremely similar
@@_Belteshazzar_ So not a Black Widow then...
@@gqwarrior6694 no, its not. But there's virtually no difference other than color
@@_Belteshazzar_ If you say so
@@gqwarrior6694 wdym. I literally said it isn't
Always great and informative lessons with Mr Attenborough! So interesting!!🕸️🕷️🕸️
Excelente video Sir David
This is supposed to be a nature channel where I would expect some educational intention exists. Using a title with “black widow” for a video featuring red backs is misleading and will undoubtedly lead to some viewers being confused.
Apart from the red stripe, red backs are a quarter of the size of a black widows and the little males are brown compared to the black male black widows. Black widows are more aggressive while red backs are passive. Redbacks like to live around people, black windows prefer more space... Plus they primarily live in different parts of the world.
I'm guessing the bit with the 'black widow' got lost in editing.
my favorite part is when you almost never or barely talk about whatever is in the title...
Absolutely amazing creatures
So interesting luv David Attenborough thank you
The ogre faced net casting spider.. I love it, they're oddly cute lol
Even before I played the video I thought: that picture is of a Redback, but I guess the caption refers to the fact that it is also called the Australian Black Widow and is closely related to the spider of the American continent.
I live on Vancouver Island B.C Canada 🇨🇦 and have a beach called Island View Beach. It has the highest population of Black Widow Spiders in the world. 🤗
Thanks. I will never go there.
@@0xszander0 Oh it's safe.🤗 If you don't bother them they won't bother you and also the venom is like a bee's. So if you are allergic to bee's yes if could be bad.🤗
@@newfee1967 their venom is nowhere near a bee's. The ld50 of bees is about 2.8 to 3.5 which is pretty toxic, the Southern black widow is 1.9 which is significantly more. Black widows also have a nuerotoxin and being bit will result in what is most likely the worst pain of your life. Nothing is actually wrong with your body since the venom yield is so low but it's extremely painful and will be felt for days. Its also almost unheard-of to be allergic to black widow venom or any spider for that matter. Yes, they are safe, but they don't compare to a bee in the slightest.
We have a lot of Black Widows where I live in San Diego County. They usually don't bother us.
The spiders in this video aren't black widows, that's just a dumb title because they think they’ll get more clicks
Nature on it again for more information about the different types of things and more stuff and different chapter and character and people who Care so listen and enjoy
He’s not bad this bloke. He really should do M&S ads.
That is not a blackwidow it's a redback there's a billion of them in my backyard in Queensland
Over on the Creepy-Crawly Tube, there's a video entitled: "Brave Spider Meets the Davidattenborough Monster."
LEGEND DA.....
To everone not in Australia they're actually chill. Just don't go sticking your hands in dark holes and check underneath chairs left outside.
In North America.
Whoever uploads these videos needs to watch more nature programs
😮
This is the moment David Attenborough becomes Vecna
Nature is an exceptional force - something so “simple “ yet it’d be hard if not impossible to replicate some of these engineering and biological feats (rebuild retina on a daily basis!)
I'm pretty sure that the beetle was put there and not actually stumbled across the spiders web
Props to camera man that means momma ant raise no wussy
It's not a black widow spider it's a red back spider, change the title please 😋
Yeah its kinda ridiculous they got that bit wrong.
Aren't black widows endemic to Europe and/or North America; while red back spiders are endemic to Australia?
Thank you lol
@@xXxJSCOTTxXxand Belgium and Japan and new Zealand
If you want to be technical red back, spider belongs to the black widow species, so therefore it is a form of a black widow
if only i can give my life to you for you to live forever, I WILL
So.... Where was the black widow?
The Red Back is NOT a Black Widow. Just saying.
red back spiders and black widow spiders are two different species of spider!
im waiting for him to recite the lyrics of wetasspussy by cardi b.
that would be the best lullaby.
like, ever!!!
Peter Parker approves of this video.
See for yourself the masters of the universe
There is no 'Black Widow' in this video.
No blackwidow though here
The video title is wrong. 🤦🏻♂️
Everything Sir David does is magic but where's the Black Widow? It's literally never mentioned & there's zero footage of them
Good video, bad title.
No wonder I’m an arachnophobic 😱
This is hard to watch 😱☠️
Really? We fear it? I've been bitten by one of these. Feels like when you have food poisoning then you are fine.
I fear food poisoning...
@@Synathidy food poisoning can also kill you I e had it a few times I thought I was dead
❤️🇿🇦😻
Black Widow??????
Damm nature you scary!
Don't tell me there is a god
✝️
Spiders are fascinating creatures but Eww!
Yes, very impressive and completely offputting.
The RUclips title is wrong they are two different spiders, the black widow and the red back spider are in fact cousin species of spider but they’re not the same thing. Do some more research on Arachnology.
You didn't MEET or even "face off" against a spider you talked about one. Clickbait.
No black widow spider. Title lies.
Credibility is lost when video doesn't even contain the thing listed in the title.
Redbacks are "cousins" of Black Widows, but they are not Black Widows and inhabit a continent that Widows don't.
The Australian red back spider is more deadly than the American black widow spider. Now wait and watch the Americans REACT to this comment 😂😂😂
Whoever came up with the title has no idea what a black widow is. That's a red back spider which is a close relative but a different species
waman, am i rite
its not a black widow. L.hasselti are a different species entirely from the 3-4 ones in the US. we also have L.erythromelas which for all intents and purposes is also a redback with a thicker red stripe.
Sir David’s voice is like heroin to me. Since 1987 I’ve been a fan!
uahh !!😬only with Sir David Attenborough`s voice i can watch it and feel save !
As an Aussie, I can tell you they are not as bad as David is making them out to be. They don't even get a mention in a first aid course. A bite can make you a bit sick. Now, a funnel web on the other hand........
Yeah but Aussies are a different breed. As a Brit if I see a normal average every day house spider bigger than an inch wide I consider selling the house.....
@@markorollo. You don't want to move here then because our houses have plenty of spiders in them before they are even finished being built 😂
No seriously. They really do.
David is a boss
So the caption writer never bothered to watch the video first
Dude is a gem
david is like 96 years old but his voice is perfect
