- A playthrough of Hudson Soft's 1995 puzzle-action game for the Super NES, Super Bomberman 3.
Played through the "normal" story mode. The video shows the European PAL release; the game was never released in North America.
As a kid, I remember reading about Super Bomberman 3 in some magazine's import section and thinking how disappointing it was that North America was the only major region that wouldn't be receiving it. Way, way, way later, thanks to emulation I finally got to play it (and later yet managed to get a real copy to play), and I think I was pretty right to be disappointed. It's an awesome game, and was the best Super Bomberman released yet.
While SB2 was a fairly iterative improvement on the original, SB3 was a far riskier bet. Numerous things were changed this time: the super shiny, modern graphics of the first two have all been replaced with simpler, cleaner artwork styled similarly to that found in the three Bomberman games for the TurboGrafx-16 (and this makes a lot of sense, looking at how SB3 and SB4 borrow pretty heavily from Bomberman '93 and '94). The soundtrack is much harsher and more aggressive (but insanely great nonetheless), and relies more on remixes of older tracks with some really quality sample-work rather than establishing brand new ones. The stages are square shaped again, but now you have the ability to ride Bomberman's adorable squad of neon-coloured animal friends, each with their own special ability, and the battle mode has been given a big upgrade: any player that gets knocked out now can wreak utter havoc on the field for those still in play by chucking bombs unexpectedly into the middle of the action. It certainly makes things more frantic, and adds another fun layer of strategy. It also allowed the person that sucked and always got killed by their own first bomb to continue playing without getting bored, which I'm sure was appreciated by little brothers and sisters the world over.
Super Bomberman 3, like 2 before it, improves in just about every way over the previous game. It's amazing how much of a knack Hudson had for releasing the same simple game over and over with slight alterations and improvements, yet somehow always kept the gameplay as fresh and fun as it was the first time around.

The Louies, the graphics, the soundtrack, this was the peak of Bomberman awesomeness that got lost through the years after Super 5
The peak was Saturn Bomberman, then Bomberman pretty much fell off a mountain after till Super Bomberman R many, many years later. And even that isn't anywhere near the SNES series, or Saturn Bomberman for that matter.
@@Bloodreign1 Bomberman Online was fantastic though, I don't know how many people tried it. I didn't get to actually play the online part of it but the offline experience was just as engaging as the 16-bit classics.
I tried to like this game, but doesn't work for me. Even the cute graphics aren't saving it. Don't care much for the gameplay I guess. Each his own. But IMO a bit overrated title

Takes me back to when I was a teenager. I finally got a perfect run this year (after many attempts) and it became my favourite Bomberman game.
One of the best soundtracks. Way ahead of its time!
The super colorful anime aesthetic, ability-granting neon animal friends, and battle mode additions introduced in Super Bomberman 3 really kicked things up a notch - how was America the only territory to not see a release of this classic?!

I have played it when was a kid. I'm Brazilian. And the Super Bomberman 3 is the best of five bombermans to SNES. PC Engine and Megadrive have Super bomberman 3 and some diferent levels! Is great too

@@aprendendoyoutube3942 The Mega Drive and PC engine games aren't SB3 versions, they are diferent games, it's called Bomberman 94 (93 in Mega), also the PC engine ver. is the original, the Mega ver. is only a port, but the history is basically the same, but the bosses and stages are diferent
Absolutely loved this game, when I was a kid back in the primary school days.
The timer "B" bombs from World 2-4 were the best, followed by golden flame.
Just looking at P bomb pumping was classic.
The most dangerous ones were the blow through everything spike bombs.
I still remembered a few codes 4501, was the ice world with timer bombs. There was 2792 for another and can't remember the rest for straight to the final boss.
2305 or something for final boss. my cousin and i accidentally discovered it while never making it thru planet 1. imagine the thrill!!
AWWWW YEEAAAAAH! This was my favorite one out of the super bomberman snes series. Loved the addition of animals . Thanks for the playthrough!

Realmente una de las mejores intros en videojuego alguno.
En realidad quitando algunos juegos de bomberman (que serían los que no podrían aguantar muchos bits en su procesador) bomberman tiene muy buenas intros animadas para entrar. (Literalmente si vez una línea de tiempo, verás como bomberman pasa de anime de 90' hasta diseño artístico más moderno occidental)

Aww man, this one brought back the two player Story Mode that was missing in Super Bomberman 2! Now I'm really bummed out about not getting to play this one on the SNES!
That's because in Super Bomberman 2, The Five Dastardly Bombers have captured White Bomber but he broke free & defeated them.

I remember being hyped for this game ever since I played Super Bomberman 2 back in the day, then being angry when I found out that Hudson wasn't releasing it here in North America because, according to Nintendo Power, they were "not convinced that a third Super Bomberman title (would) sell well in the United States."
I'm actually quite jealous of Europe in this regard, since at least they still got the third game.
Another factor of why it didn't get released was because Hudson Soft's first USA division closed before the release of the game, with its division being acquired by Acclaim. They didn't distribute any Hudson title despite that.

@@FritzMadness If I were stuck with just modern consoles, I'd probably not play video games anymore. Thank goodness I collect retro games, enough to last me a lifetime, and enough games to play that it becomes tough to decide what to play, and tough to access games from how I store them due to so little space to fit 1,325 games in, over 90% of them physical copies.

Watching this video, I still remember very well that time when I played Super Bomberman 3 for the first time, I loved that game.
Even though I didn't have the SNES (Super Nintendo) console, I was able to play it on a SNES emulator and still complete it 100%, both 1 player and 2 player.
When I completed the game 100% in single player, I was curious what the ending would be like but in 2 player mode, I completed the game for the second time and the ending is different and real too.
All of the above I say from my own experience. 👍

The Snes counterpart of mega bomberman ( megadrive ) / bomberman 94 ( pc engine ).
only difference is the desert levels that replace the haunted house in the other versions, otherwise the landscape are the same.
Completely different games, all they share alike is a graphical style for Bomberman and friends. I'd also swap Mega Bomberman and Bomberman 94 around, since the former is just a watered down port of the latter.

The in-between stages music is definitely Kraftwerk-inspired, probably even a direct rip of a song, maybe "Telephone Call." Cool

The last Bomberman game I bought months ago, got it for pretty cheap for a cart only from a US seller on Ebay. Shame we didn't get 3-5 here in the US, though I think Europe got #3 at least, but mine's the Japanese version, so it's all good.

Go with the Japanese version, since there's really no text to be able to understand, the price will be a little better for it, and simpler to run on an SNES either with a Game Genie (region bypass for any non chipped games on the console, like the Super FX), or clip tabs in the SNES cart slot, and voila, the game will fit in the slot like a US game.
I just figured out now that the vilain bombers on Bomberman R, are actually inspired by this ones, at least the design.

Great game.
As cute and fun as this is, I remember this game took so freakin' long to complete just a planet, eventhough each has only 4 stages (some of them have extension). It's because you need to blow all the pieces to collect the items. And when you are done with it, the stages get harder, the bosses get harder. Me and my bro could never ever win the game. The same can be said for Bomberman 4.
