I think the bourbon really makes a difference in this drink. Not only because it's the only spirit but if you pick a sweeter one you end up with diabetes in a mug. The bourbon has to have the bite to meet up with the simple syrup.
Great video, but no matter how you make the Mint Julip, it is one NASTY drink. Instead, I just buy a bottle of Four Roses bourbon and drink it like it was intended. STRAIGHT!!

Just add 1 cup of Warm water to 1 cup of sugar. Stir until dissolved and you have simple syrup!
