    I enjoyed learning from these two informative videos. Is this type of plot just for feeding deer and other critters? Looks as if would be difficult to get a clear shot when hunting. I do like the concept. I’ve had brassicas and cereal grain in a three quarter acre plot for three years. This would be a good change.

      Thanks for watching! You'd be surprised how knocked down the corn gets by mid November. Lots of critters eat there and usually create lanes to shoot for you.

    That cob looks good enough for you to eat. How'd it taste? (I'd assume it's a flour type?)
    I wonder how much worse it'd be, in terms of weed competition, without the Roundup Ready trait and without the glyphosate application at 6.

    Great info! I'm looking at doing this method in the spring. Site prep, did you spray then disk, before spreading the seed and fertilizer?

    • @genesiscustomfoodplots
      @genesiscustomfoodplots  Год назад

      Thanks for watching Jason - we did not spray before disking. We simply worked the ground and planted. We did spray about 6 weeks after planting to control weeds. Good luck this spring!

    Do you leave this unharvested for the deer? If so, can the corn stalks just be disced back into the ground in the spring? Thanks

    • @genesiscustomfoodplots
      @genesiscustomfoodplots  Год назад

      Yes, we leave them standing. Need to check your state regs to determine if it's legal to take it down where you are at. Corn can be mowed or disked down in the spring depending on the snowfall over winter and now far they decompose. Thanks for watching!

    Is corn a hard plant to grow does it need a pacific soil or is it Hardy and it’ll basically grow anywhere

    • @genesiscustomfoodplots
      @genesiscustomfoodplots  Год назад

      Hi John - It's really not a question of if it will grow, but how well. Corn is really durable and will grow if it gets in the ground and gets water. While it does need good amounts of water, it doesn't like wet feet for very long so a loamy, well drained soil is best. That said, like any plant, the better job you do of prepping your soil and getting your pH adjusted along with proper amounts of fertilizer, the better results you'll get. If you don't do those things, your results will suffer. I guess like most things in life, the more you put in, the more you'll get out. Thanks for watching!

    Can you harvest the beans and if so how would you go about doing it?

    • @genesiscustomfoodplots
      @genesiscustomfoodplots  Год назад

      Hi Daniel - I think it would be tough to harvest the beans. We generally let these plots stand and let the deer and other critters harvest everything. Thanks for watching!

    What brand of seed did you use for corn and soybeans and did you mix the seed together to plant at the same time? Also does the extra nitrogen with the beans make you have to use as much fertilizer the next year or do you plant rotationally to not break down soil PH?
    Thanks!

    • @genesiscustomfoodplots
      @genesiscustomfoodplots  Год назад

      Thanks for the good questions. Beans were from Jung and corn from Pioneer. Corn is mixed with the fertilizer and spread and followed by broadcasting the beans. We generally rotate annually, but you could run the mix a couple years in a row. I wouldn’t change my fertilizer amounts. You’ll get some boost from the prior years beans, but I wouldn’t change the recipe.

      As for spraying the weeds do you spray before and after planting? And how long before and after?

    • @genesiscustomfoodplots
      @genesiscustomfoodplots  Год назад

      @@noelconway114 Because this is disked in, we generally we don't spray pre plant unless weed pressure is really bad. We spray approximately 6 weeks after planting to control weeds and after that the plants should canopy and keep the weeds down. Thanks for watching!
