Great to see another installment of this great series, once again covering many little known electrics that even I didn't know exist, especially from the New Haven.
You should make a part 2 or Electric locomotive Extinct, OR do a video of Electric locomotives that survived that we don't even know they existed back then
I always found the shapes electrics came in funny, you have so many that are just a box on wheels, all the crocodilian variants of the steeplecab, a couple bulldog noses, and the **ABSOLUTE GIGACHAD** of the GG-1.
I find this to be an amusing summary of the electric locomotives of North America! Also, I didn't realize just how many electric locomotives were produced for lines that aren't even electrified anymore (N de M, BC Rail, Northeast Corridor freight, the Milwaukee Road). Thanks for making this!
It's cool seeing the GE E50C on here. Never saw them but they were operated near where I grew up in SE Ohio. Ran coal dug up by the Big Muskie (largest ever dragline excavator) down to a conveyor line that brought it the rest of the way to the now demolished AEP Muskingum River electric plant.
The PRR had a few similar units. E44’s but upgraded and reclassified to E50a I believe. One was even upgraded further, an E60a, but Conrail’s abandonment of electrification killed off any other conversions iirc
@russellgxy2905 The E50C was basically the same platform but upgraded internals. The unique part was that they were fully autonomous. The two ran as shuttles pulling coal trains from the mines to a nearby power plant. If I remember correctly, they used a series of optical sensors to pick up track side signals to tell it where they were at on the line and what to do.
I volunteer occasionally at the Western Railway Museum, and I was waiting that whole video just to see if you included the Sac Northern steeple cabs. Glad you did!
Actually WE (General Electric) built them, they were going to be exported to the USSR but it got cancelled because of Cold War. So we kept em for ourselves.

Restore railroad lines that are owned by electric railways. In my home state of Oregon we have what’s called the Oregon electric railway. And the Oregon electric railway is now owned by the Portland & Western Railway and it is also owned by the WES Commuter train between Beaverton and Wilsonville.
Let’s hope that One day, The Milwaukee Road can be revived, and all its catenary wires raised back up, and the two formerly electrified sections can finally be joined together, and maybe even be connected to the electrified lines of the East to create the first Transcontinental Electrified Line.
