This is a good start on the roof, I fear if he has to restore all the flooring in the center and other side, it may take him more than 6 months before the entire roof structure s finished. The progress Dan and his friends are making is really impressive.
@@RR98guylogically speaking so long as the structure is sound, he can simply concentrate on restoring the top floors of the other sections so he can readily work on the roof. That will allow material movement access from the side already done, and work access on the top floor across the remaining.
Doable, but that said, I'd be amazed if he's framed and sheeted in 6 months.
I can't believe you've just said orange pant man is coming back as I was just thinking that as you were cleaning the floors. He will be a great help to you too. Nick, Cameron and yourself are doing an amazing job on the roof, and just look at you coming down to the bottom of the chateau no bother. Wel, done 👏 👏 👏.

It's not a roof yet, it is the structure that holds the roof, but it is progress, and the ropes and harnesses are a welcome addition!?!

Can’t help thinking those bricks could be reused, they are part of the decoration and it may be hard to find suitable replacements, size colour etc
@@susanclunie340 I'm sure they will if they're salvageable, but there's a good chance that being at the top they got the worst of the heat from the fire and could be compromised.

There is a famous picture from U.S. history of workmen sitting on a steel beam of a skyscaper with their legs dangling over an abyss. This video gave me the French chateau version of those vibes.
During construction of the Empire State Building, if I'm not mistaken, and those guys had NO safety gear, at least none that we could see!

It looks like a jobsite now. It’s gratifying when you can see the work overtaking that bombed out relic look. That Mansard is a feather in your cap mate! Dry on that side soon means recovery for that side of the house!!

When I was a roofer we would use a nail through a square of aluminum to hold the tare paper down. This would help to keep the paper down in the wind.

Yeah, the top of the roof is coming. Things are falling into place. It takes a lot of patience on your part. It's amazing how far the rebuilding has come. Praying it will all come together. So proud of Dan and his friends.

What can I say but "WOW"! It is incredible how much the place has changed in such a short period of time. I can't wait to see how far you get by the end of 2024.
Hopefully by going onto the next wing (After the current roof structure has had its apexes and temporary felt rolls applied) during dry weather and putting the beams, floors and roof on before Winter 2024, Dan should avoid another Winter like that, it will take its toll!?!

I feel your roof pain and masonry woes. Just had a new roof and gutters put on my 124-yr.old house. Now waiting
on the bid and plans from the mason about rebuilding my two chimneys. New boiler next. (Already replaced the sewer line and some inside plumbing. Ka-ching!) Just Ugh!! Be safe up there!

When installing the workshop, make sure you secure the place to prevent theft. The downside of YT is that hundreds of thousands of people know you have thousands of Euros worth of new tooling basically out in the open as it appears now

What you've achieved so far with help from Nick and Cameron is absolutely amazing and I continue to be almost stunned by what you're doing.
The off-the-cuff remark you've said about this next part by being new, and the amount of work to properly finish what sounds like an intricate piece of woodwork, always keeps me almost rivetted to my seat!!

I'd say it might be a good idea to put some temporary battens along the roof to hold the felt down in strong winds. Loving the progress :)
And how strong do winds get in this part of France?
If you didn't have the answer already, I'm sure you consulted the wind map for France before commenting.
(Though I don't quite get why you commented anyway as the map has shown you than Dan lives in the part of France where winds are the weakest.)

@@aiglonducal314It doesn't take much. And it's high up off the ground where the wind flows faster. If it's going to be like that for an extended period, it needs stronger fixings.
That was one of the most transformative days in the restoration.

@@BrightThingHe helped with the huge dig out of the front room, when there was approximately 5-6 feet of rubble, dirt, growing things, decomposing matter and who knows what all to remove. Shovel by shovel, wheelbarrow by wheelbarrow. And then he returned to help again.
