I remember this match. Our high school team went to Spokane to watch this and we were all shocked. His brother just a summer earlier went to Palmer, Ak to give a wrestling camp. Crazy!!!!
Great example of a freestyle wrestler in Kendall Cross using savvy back exposure techniques versus a pure traditional takedown wrestler in Terry Brands. Check me if I'm wrong but I don't believe Cross took one committed leg attack in this match... Everything from under and overhooks and scrambles. Amazing.
This is simply fantastic. These guys are both great. Different styles for sure, but they are both at the top of their games. I wish with all my heart Terry Brands could've won it in 2000.

For those wondering about NCAA matches, Kendall beat Terry in 1990 once and then in the second match that year, Terry had a tech fall over Kendall in a Iowa vs Ok St dual meet. Kendall was the defending NCAA champ that year having won it in 1989 Tom beat Kendall 19-9 and then 1-0
Can anyone tell me where Randy Couture placed at the 3 or 4 Olympic trials he competed in? I know he won world team trials a few times but im not sure about the Olympic years.
I went to a camp this past week and Kendall Cross was a clinician there, he is a very good teacher. I think he was probably the best coach there; Steve Martin was good too, but Martin isn't a very nice guy.
This match wasn't even that close with Cross turning him on his back twice. Brands couldn't get in on him and when he did score, Cross had such a big lead he just gave him the points. Cross is clearly the better wrestler.
Anyone who thinks Brands one this just doesn't know the rules of freestyle; simple as that. He threw him and turned him off a head lock +1 back points. It is pretty simple fellas.
i agree with everything except the part about brands being better. cross won and is a gold medalist. terry didn't win and is a bronze medalist. he has a different "don't stop style". you have your style and then you build technique around it or vice versa. you don't go as far as terry has gone by just being aggressive. PS anyone know the exact score of this match?

You freakin idiots, terry wrestles hard and uses great technique to execute the takedowns. It's hard enough to penetrate on the best wrestler in the world..a whole other ball game taking them down. Kendall beat Tom 1-0 in the NCAA semi finals bro. thats the reason Kendall won the NCAA championship.

The real gold medal match was Cross and Sissaouri. Sissaouri was ripped off against Brands in 1995 when Brands did not even get one technical point.
