@@DoesItDoom I have a question. I have a les Paul tribute, it has the 490r and 490t. They are not great, what would you recommend swapping them out with for doom/stoner stuff, but also higher gain metal?
I’ve played drums for 38 years and for the last 2 years I been using these videos to learn how to play guitar. Thanks for all the lessons. It’s allowed me to speak guitar to my band mates 🤘🏻
I’ve been playing this wrong lol. I usually drop down the power chord a string instead of going higher on the low string. Sounds basically the same but this way sounds better. Thanks for this 🤘🏻
Sure thing. Garrett typically roots his power chords on the 6th string, favoring going higher on the fretboard as opposed to jumping down to root them on the 5th string. Iommi style.
Great lesson Steve!!! Windhand is a band that I’ve just gotten into in the last year or so, I really dig what they do!!! Thanks for the great content as always brother!!!🤘🤘🤘
Glad you liked it! We’ve got a killer TAB for Mt. Abraxas ready to go, just need to make it into a lesson! Available here on Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/41129552
I know it's probably losing some intended spirit but I find that this song sounds heavier and better without the effects. Very cathartic tune if you've got the blues, I love jamming on it from time to time.
The track is a relatively simple doom track. Nothing wrong with simple, if it sounds good, and this sounds good. I’m really digging that SG and wondering where to pick one up?
It’s a ‘05 / ‘06 Gibson SG VOS that was an exclusive run made for Guitar Center. One of the easiest ways to identify them is that they came with stock chrome Grover tuners while the rest of the guitar is aged nickel hardware. I picked it up used sometime around 2012 or so I think. Generally they are more cherry but mine sat in a sunny corner of my house for many years and faded to this more natural looking finish. Someone on IG messed me on the lesson gear post the other day saying he just got one.
@@DoesItDoom Ok, yeah man. I’ve actually have a two knob Epiphone SG in Cherry that I may actually try “sun aging”. That’s such a pretty look, and definitely not one you see hardly ever. Almost all SG’s come in red and black. I was searching Sweetwater and found a natural wood colored Gibson SG, but it’s definitely not in my budget right now! Thanks for the info!!
@@DoesItDoom Shameless plug on your thread: New Eyehategod album out in March. First track is available on RUclips over on the Century Media channel. Track’s a little polished for my tastes, but it’s good to see a new EHG offering is going to be available!!
Maannnn i really need to get a Rat, it's got such a dope tone XD Windhand is one of my fav doom bands to chill to, so this was fun to see. Also makes me feel like i should stop only writing songs in the open key of the guitar >.> lol All my songs are in drop C XD
Writing in the open key is always most tempting. I'd say 85% of the lessons I've covered on the channel are written in the key of the open 6th string, with 10% probably in the key of the open 5th string, and the remaining 5% just random.
@@DoesItDoom Yeah, it's a really bad habit of mine hahaha. I'd say pretty much every song i've ever written just about was in the key of the 6th string hehe. I just love that open chug man, it's so good XD

My favorite Windhand song. Love the wah
For sure!
Tones are fantastic! I remember seeing those ad's and stuff everywhere for those ibanez wah's back in the day.
Such a rad wah (other then being fucken enormous).

I always see Windhand when they swing by! Such a rad band.
I'd love to see some Melvins on this channel. Lots of filthy riffs from Buzzo.
Yeah, need to do some Melvins. On my list for 2021 for sure.

Killer video man, I appreciate your devotion to the handful of interconnected genres you are breaking down on your channel! Subscribed!

I checked multiple times because I couldn't believe it, but man... You actually got a better tone than the real deal here!
Thanks man. I didn’t compare directly, but i was going for the real deal tone that was in my head. 🤘🏻🤘🏻
Love this song! Another great lesson man, sure to jam along to this pretty soon. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
Great tune. Glad you dig the lesson!
Wicked! Thanks, Steve.
Thanks, Larry!!!
epic as always!
Thanks so much!

I'd love it if you did an Elder track but it would probably take you several times longer than your average doom song

Maybe the best melancholic doom song out there, Cough's Haunter in the Dark is a close favorite.
what settings are you using on the echo/delay pedal please Steve?
Will post a shot today. Most knobs close to noon with the mix closer to 2 o’clock iirc.
