    Reupload: stock footage replaced with Creative Commons footage, appropriate attribution given in description. Removed image of Bloodrayne toy/figure to avoid legal headache. Improved boob censoring (sorry.)
    There is significantly more silent gameplay footage in this video that the norm. I had to edit tracks out of the video in a large quantity, and since I don't have the original footage anymore, a lot of this video is me talking over music. This is the last time this is going to happen.
    From now on videos will stick to game-appropriate music.
    Thank you for your support and patience with these reuploads. Thank you. Goes without saying if you need Bloodrayne gameplay footage, feel free to take it from my review.

    The gameplay is so simple even game reviewers can do it. Bloody hilarious.
    Currently playing through og Tomb Raider and completed Bayonetta and Sin Episodes recently. Your vidoes made me realise how much more playful and independently confident these female characters are while still being sexy.

      Haha thank you! I think a few journalists made it through this one okay fingers crossed! Oh damn, I hope ya enjoyed them! At the time Tomb Raider was the closest I got to playing an Indiana Jones character, and that was just fantastic.
      I think independently confident is the best description I've seen in ages, I wish I'd thought of that. For me Lara was the Indy of the gaming universe and that was what I took away from that, confident and proactive.

    I finished the game for the first time recently. I was surprised at how good it was, clearly a lot of thought and care was put into it. I played ps2 version with emulator despite the 30fps lock because it seemed to me like lighting and textures mixed well together coherently unlike in re-release were I couldn't shake off the feeling of things being out of place.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews  3 месяца назад

      I've never actually played on a PS2 or an emulator for it but I bet that ran smooth. I've only seen good footage and it looks like PS emulators run like olympians compared to Xbox ones. (No offense to Xbox this is the PC emulators I'm talking about)
      But I am sorry to hear about the re-release stuff. It has been a long time since I played the original, so it's hard for me to compare from memory and like I said I did tweak some things with the UI. It's completely possible I just blindsided some graphical mismatches. I think they put more thought into this than most give it credit, it has a simple premise/genre, but it's got a lot going on.
      Sorry long reply! Thank you! For watching and commenting, I appreciate it I really do! Thanks!

    I've come to your channel from watching Pathfinder WOTR review. Such an underrated gem, hope you'll get more views.
    About Bloody Rayne... I've never finished the whole game. Maybe not my type. Always fell off after Argentina act. But I'll always remember Rayne as the ultimate game sex symbol, she'd dine on Lara Croft for sure. Bloodrayne has great combat, that slow motion mode and it's really addictive... Too bad something fells off in prologue and final act.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews  7 месяцев назад

      I can see where you're coming from completely and I've read similar thoughts. I think part of it may stem from Bloodrayne shifting it's gameplay focus every time you enter a new region. The prologue is search and rescue with mutants, then you have assassination, then open plan assault/assassination with extra set pieces. It's a strength if the player enjoys all three segments, but a weakness if they enjoy just one. Argentina is also so coherent and well designed. Despite how much I love Gaustadt and it's best of both worlds level design, objectively it's not as tightly crafted as Argentina. (Also thank you for your kind words holy smokes!)

    I’m currently playing through this game for the first time, and while it’s not terrible, I also feel like it’s extremely average, fun nonetheless. This franchise really needs a reboot though, a revamped bloodrayne game in 2023 would be fantastic!

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews  Год назад +1

      As much as I love this game, I can easily see this perspective. I really mean it when I said it's a package deal, take away even one piece (the gunplay, the setting or the vampire angle) and it falls flat. For 2002 I think it's great but it's sequel would be outshone by games like God of War and Bayonetta. They just didn't recognise the need to step up the formula. If anything I think Bloodrayne 2 diluted what they already had.
      You're absolutely right that if this ever came back, they'd need to revamp it for the modern era, bringing it's complexity up so it has more going for it. I'd love to see a Bloodrayne with Bayonetta's depth.

I guess they had no choice if they introduced the "Carpathian Dragons" and gave them the feature of taking blood from their Dhampir host... However, the second has very difficult controls and the feature of making your enemies stronger than you, even those that are not supernatural in nature. @@JDA2185 Thanks! That's prompted me to look into some of the developer changes between the two. Bloodrayne's original game design lead stepped down for BR2, and was instead replaced by a whole 3 people including a producer of the first game. Some of the team did stay but not (from what I can see) at the level that would let them make any huge gameplay choices. I'll definitely bring these up when I get around to it. I think when producers get involved one of two things happens: it's either great from the start, or it's all downhill from here rofl. So yeah shines a light on the game's shortcomings.

    Best way to play this gem is on PCSX2 with enhancements. It feels even better played with a controller. Especially if it's a licensed PlayStation pad.

      I have to confess my experience with emulators hasn't always been good but I love the concept of them because they help preserve games that otherwise get forgotten. It's always fantastic to see the effort fans go through to replay games!
      Thank you as well for watching my video! And for leaving a comment, I appreciate it!

      @@reallylatereviews Some of them can indeed be a bit of a headache to deal with but the dev/nightly builds of PCSX2 now have automatic game fixes, updates and a pretty slick looking front-end loader that can be configured to download game covers. It essentially works straight out of the box now. All that's needed is a BIOS and we all know how easy those are to get. I have more than 20 emulators installed atm, if you ever need a hand figuring your way around one, hit me up. Your channel rocks!

      @@Sword420 Yep, PCSX2 got a huge quality boost since the lockdown. Vulkan backend, new qt based gui etc.
      But the terminal cut is preferable, more than 30fps, and they implemented Xinput, so controller support is of no concern any more.

      @@Sword420 Thank you for your kind words holy shit! And that sounds pretty amazing honestly. It sounds like they've come a long way since I last used one! I've been recommended games before that at present I'd only be able to play on an emulator - but I worry about making a 'review' like that in case someone uses that to make a purchase. But I will definitely come back and ask if I ever change my mind or just need help. Thank you!
      Also I saw your comment further down, if you ever look at it go with GoG. It's almost always on sale there. On steam it seems to never be on sale

    Good video, just a bit too long.

      Thank you! I'm not gonna lie I felt the runtime creep up on this one myself. I've had feedback that cutting parts of previous videos for runtime concerns was a mistake, so right now I'm experimenting with longer videos.
      But I do want to keep my videos tight so I'm grateful for the feedback, and for you watching and commenting, I really do take everything on board so thank you!

      @@reallylatereviews Thanks for engaging with us commenters, and I think you deserve a lot more subs, even though then you wouldn't be able to engage with us this way :)
      Anyway, you can't please everybody... Longform content is fine, it's just hard to be funny/interesting in a steady manner for long, and in a slower moment viewers might lose interest and click away. This is just my opinion but it's better to have a 10% shorter video that's 10% more interesting. It's especially true if a viewer is not really interested in the game itself, and is only here for your commentary.

      @@DrKrapulax Maaaaaan thank you for your kind words honestly! To tell you the truth, I'm preferring it this way. I can answer people, recognise people coming back, it's lovely.
      I also agree with you 100% but the reality is over half of the 'views' on my videos, click off after the first minute. Even the shortest video I have has lost most of it's views way before the halfway mark.
      I want to listen to everybody who takes the time to leave a comment, and focus on their feedback rather than worrying about growing my channel. Because that's why I'm doing this, to entertain people and to have fun. I'm worried about the people still watching at the end and what they want, not the number of views on my video. But still I did feel the length on this one a little and I have a much longer video coming up (Pathfinder), so a shorter video after would be nice.
      Thank you for your honest feedback, I mean it!
