    Reupload: stock footage replaced with Creative Commons footage, appropriate attribution given in description. Replaced video of man shaking head with picture of two melons. Improved quality of tesla cannon segment. Increased Khan presence. This video was delayed due to font licensing misunderstanding. Fucking nightmare. However BIG shoutout to Graham Meade aka Gemfonts. That guy is a legend.
    Thank you for your support, patience and understanding with these reuploads. Thank you. Goes without saying if you need Sin Emergence footage, feel free to take it from my review.

      @agbrenv I think it does not work well. We ended with only one episode and unfinished product. Sure price was too high, but if we end with full game price will be right and story will be closed. From consumer point of view episodic releases got higher risk of failing and not delivering full product. We have Telente adventure games and we have Valve HL episode 2.

    • @Kijinn
      @Kijinn 8 месяцев назад

      The primary thing that didn't work out was the game itself. It was very mediocre, at the time it was released. Mediocrity always puts you in an awkward place, where you'll have a hard time to get enough notice and interest.
      I believe that the success of *good* "early access" games on Steam showcases that an episodic format might work just as well. But you need to make sure that you have an above average product, before release.

    This is by far the most detailed and enjoyable review of SiN episode 1 Ive ever seen on YT. Based on this video RLR, your content and narrative style is like a hybrid of SsethTezch and GmanLives, and it is refreshing AF. I simply love your editing style and dry wit, you make the Saharan desert look like an oasis.
    A few more ideas that could have made this game even better; in terms of enemy variety, they could have put in criminals, gangsters, or mafia, perhaps henchmen of Radek, he seems like a Slavic mob boss of some sort. Fighting the same balaclava wearing yellow jumpsuited corporate security was tiresome and boring.
    Speaking of which, they could have added more different types of SiNtek security forces, such as robots or drones, and goons with riot shields like seen in MGS2.
    On the topic of mutants, why not add zombified humans that were the bottom-of-the-barrel failed genetic experiments? They could also have simply increased the number of mutant encounters, it was woefully inadequate how many times you get to fight them.
    On a closer, I gotta admit, Jessica Cannon was my Waifu of the Year for 2006. I think her design is absolutely perfect, and she captures that early 2000s female skimpiness fashion trend catered to adolescent wet dream material to a tee. A total guilty pleasure, Jessica shows off her ass and thong whale-tail, while Elexis has you fixated on her ample chesticles, a brutal double-team assault that works great in complimenting each other.
    TL;DR, excellent review and channel, it really hits me in the nostalgia feels! Keep up the excellent work mate, you are criminally underrated, but you will blow up with the right exposure 😎👍
    EDIT: if you get a chance, Id really like to see you cover Soldier of Fortune 2, hard to believe that game is over 20 years old now, Jesus Christ Denton!

      @reallylatereviews  2 месяца назад +1

      First of all please let me say thank you for such kind words, holy smokes. Thank you. I really appreciate it, and thank you for watching as well!
      I couldn't agree more with the enemy variety, I think it's bad enough with just the three guns but yeah, mostly jumpsuits. I mean they did as much as they could with level design to make encounters interesting but they just didn't have enough variety and I like your suggestions. Maybe they would have expanded into episode 2. More gangsters would have been a good fit. As for mutants yeah I can only imagine again, episode 2 haha! They come in late and again, lack variety. I know they were planning some more enemies for the rest of the series, including robots, but it gets harder to find those concept arts as a lot about this game was just lost due to lack of interest/websites shutting down.
      So don't get me wrong rofl, I love Jessica's design. I think my issue stems from how the character is played seriously, while Elexis and Radek are very tongue in cheek ya know? It probably would have been easier to convey Jessica's goofiness if Blade actually spoke. It's a minor thing, minor complaint haha :P
      Lastly, let me say thank you again but ya know I'm not too fussed about blowing up :D I just hope people enjoy my videos and that really makes me happy. I think I actually played the Soldier of Fortune 2 demo when it came out rofl! Long time ago but I'll look into it and add it to the list, thank you!

    SiN Episodes makes me sad we never got Episode 2.
    Episode 1 is definitely a bit wonky but It seems pretty easy for even a second episode to improve on it a decent bit, Episode 1 does feel like the "shareware" Episode of an older shooter. (Such as Doom.)
    I'd suggest trying the original SiN if you haven't, it's also pretty good for the most part. (the final levels do suffer from clearly being rushed.)

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews  Год назад +4

      I wish we had that second episode too, I was so gutted when I just sort of realised "this ain't happenin." Shareware is probably the best description, I wish I'd thought of that! And you're right the foundation was all laid for that followup.
      I've dipped my toe into the original but I never made it very far, I just sort of set it aside and forgot. But I will maybe go give it a proper try.
      Thank you as well for taking the time to watch and leave a comment, glad to know I'm not the only one who wanted Episode 2. Thank you!

    If those are the same miniguns from the first game they should rip Blade's gun arm off, or at least turn all the bones in the arm and most of the ones in his body to tiny shards with the recoil from the first shot. Those things fire rounds bigger then aircraft auto cannons and most World War II ship mounted Anti-aircraft guns.
    Edit: Am I the only one wondering if at some point in the story we would have gotten the chance to ally with Alexis? Like her and Raddick each had their own evil plan and we had to decide which one we considered worse, and help the other?
    Edit 2: The best placement for such a choice would be IMO the penultimate chapter so that way the last chapter is the results of your choice with no going back or undoing what you've unleashed.

    • @reallylatereviews
      @reallylatereviews  5 месяцев назад

      Haha that sounds about right from what I've seen of the first game. The miniguns are pretty painful, but you can tank a good few hits in Emergence. Less insta.
      I would have liked that. Any sort of choice in games like this feels massive, and choosing the lesser of two evils puts pressure on the player. There's a lot of untapped story potential, in a world that would be fun to explore properly, but will just stay untapped.

      @@reallylatereviews of course! thanks for making a video that actually gives the game a real in depth look and not just an easy takedown of why the game is bad or something. i think this game actually has a lot going for it, the basic moment to moment combat still feels really good, better than half life 2 id even venture as far as the visceral feeling of the gunplay. its biggest pitfall is easily how poorly optimized it is for modern systems (i noticed a lot of fps drops that would never happen in something like half life 2 which has been kept playable thanks to valves diligence) and the lack of weapon/enemy variety, but those are all things that could be rectified in a sequel.

      @reallylatereviews That's cool finding. I wonder did other people who work on might have something in their portfolio? I remember promotional screenshoots, there were 3 with stuff that did not appear in episode 1: Jessica opening car truck full of different guns - there were two unused guns models short smg and small pistol, shooting with mercs in some urban area with Asian neons holograms, shooting while driving with white van full of mercs.

    Though I haven't played it, this game seems to be cut from a similar cloth as Soul Reaver 2 combat and enemy wise.
    The enemies may have very little variety compared to what you find in other games but they fight a lot better than many other, much flashier games' mobs can boast of.

      I'm sorry I'm slow to reply I've been struggling to catch up with comments! I gave Soul Reaver 2 a proper look after reading your comment and yeah you're right honestly! I wish I had picked up on that fact, the enemies do fight pretty well in Emergence. Soul Reaver very different but I can see the timing and aggressive/defensive behaviours in the enemies. Really cool to see in a game from that era.

    id thought id point this out about the assault rifle, you have to use the zoom key to look down the scope which also reduces the recoil.
    its unfortunate how SiN episodes wasnt fully completed,ep2 seemed pretty promising from what a friend of mine told me about it, even tho i didnt like it as much as the original it is still better then that god awful movie.this was a pretty good video, if you think the music is good in this game just wait till you hear the tracks from the first game, especially that end credit theme...literal perfection.

      Aw it's just so true. I can't think of an episodic game that ever finished it's series. The same as any game that now needs 20 updates to finish.

      never got to play many games (no consoles or strong enough pc growing up, and a lot of games are still too demanding now due to my kinda slow reaction reaction time) but something about these slightly older ones just has a vibe to it visually. not so early that the 3d is awkward but not so new that all the lighting effects and the like make it harder to see stuff lol. stuff stands out in these kimda games.

      I really couldn't agree more. They pop out at you, and are always clear and atmospheric at the same time. I think as much as I love the visual fidelity of some newer games, unless they look absolutely phenomenal you end up with that sort of washy-plastic look where you can see the engine is capable of more, but it isn't happening. Then there are games like this where the simplicity keeps everything on the same level and you don't get that problem. I dunno if this is what you mean but I wanted to say that I do get what you're saying haha, in the sense that there's something about this era where the games just clicked visually.
