Somehow the video have gotten almost 150k views while I wasn't looking, and there's a bunch of Frequently Asked Questions so let me tackle them here. *FAQ:* _Why was this mod made?_ I made this mod in around 20 minutes simply because I found it weird that Marauders have explicitly zero interactions with the Crucible. I would understand if it requires specific timing and/or increased cost, but having the weapon straight up not working against him just baffles me. _Being able to ignore the Marauder's shield seems unbalanced, can't you make it so that it requires him to be staggered?_ I can't. I'm pretty sure there's no way to tell the game to check for specific enemy states in order to execute specific interactions. _Can't you add an animation where the Marauder's axe and the Crucible clash?_ Unfortunately animation modding is still mostly out of reach for Doom Eternal, so no. _How about making the Marauder require 3 Crucible charges to kill with the weapon?_ As far as I can tell, we don't know which part of the game files handles Crucible costs apart from just 1 charge or 0 charge, so that's not possible either. _You ruined Marauders! They are supposed to be an enemy that you must duel!_ This is a community mod, not an official update, so you can simply choose to not download and install it. I only made this mod because the idea popped on my head and I actually never used it when playing since I actually like fighting Marauders and also that I actually never use the Crucible.
They definitely removed it because they were scared that players would finish dealing with marauders too quickly, and they wanted players to be more scared of them. What they should've done instead is add 30 more marauders to every level

I think there are two sides to this. Lore wise I think it’s because the shield the marauder uses is crucible like or wtv. And that they didn’t want people just using crucible anytime they see a marauder. A simple fix would be allowing it in their stagger state but not just anytime, and lore wise only when the shield is drawn or being used. Like using it on them when they are unaware or not prepared, like charging at the slayer and what not.
Crucible is raw wraith energy. The Marauder's weapon and shield draw power from Hell's corrupted energies, which is a mix of Sentinel, Wraith, and Argent. It's the same thing the Divinity Machine uses to bring them back to life as Marauders.
@@dell988 did not know that, pretty cool. But also does the fact that it is raw wraith energy make it more powerful or not as powerful as just wraith energy? And is that one dudes hammer sentinel? The guy that gives you that major battery or wtv?

Apparently only the Crucible can slay the titan, so from that we infer that the raw wraith energy is more powerful, because it's the only thing (or so Samuel says.) capable of neutralizing a demon titan. Except we see Dead Titans all over, some felled by Sentinel Atlans that clearly boast Sentinel Batteries. Which holds Sentinel Energy, a weaker and filtered version of the Wraith's raw produce. So there's a lot of inconsistencies in that particular bit of the lore. Valen's Hammer is also implied to be pure Wraith energy, since after giving you his Hammer he walks into battle with a Blue one instead, the trademark color of Sentinel Energy. Doom's worldbuilding is something I'll always find awesome but it's clearly not all there, written neatly. Some things are just absent or rushed or contradicted later down the line. It was obviously meant to be a lot more than it is right now but the pandemic had to come along and screw the game's dev cycle.
In the original trailer, the Slayer's idea of squaring up to him was a chainsaw. I think that was before they assigned each weapon a "role" chainsaw is just reload, BFG was panic button/crowd control, and crucible is delete this guy. And then they made him immune to all three anyway.
@boulder-punchingasshole814 as I said, this was a real early trailer. I think the chainsaw on the Hud still had 6 charges, so it would have behaved similar to 2016's.
@cheeseboi588 considering that marauders are fallen sentinels, and that sentinels need to atlan mechs to fight titans, i think its pretty fair to say titan is stronger and the marauder not dying to the crucible is very strange
@@olofacosta3192 wrong. They aren't regular sentinels. marauders are as strong as the doom slayer. They were resurrected and granted power from the divinity machine, which is the same device that gave the doom slayer his powers. This is why marauders can block the slayers punches.
I have to correct commenters above. If you just shoot BFG away from him, he will face his shield towards BFG shot, so he will take reduced damage. Even though he opens his back to you, that is still a waste of BFG shot unless you instantly stun him. In order to really hurt him, you have to first stun him, only THEN shoot BFG.
Tbh, i just really wished ID gave us more options in killing the Marauder. Idk, maybe the Unmaykr could disable his shield for 3 to 5 seconds, allowing us to dish out damage.
They really should have. I don't find marauders hard to kill, but i find them super annoying. You basically have to drop everything you're doing just to kill them in this one very specific way. I've often had to wait for a good minute for their eyes to turn green, only to miss that change because a random zombie sneaked up and meleed me.
@@battedbook5811 You can spam some sticky bombs or rockets on the ground to deal splash damage, that works a lot when there's more than one. However, in TAG part 2 with the hammer they're pretty done honestly
I say it should have been a bit more in depth than simple immunity. Have it kill the marauder instantly if stunned, but if he's not, he blocks the first with his shield, losing the shield, and the second with his axe, losing the axe. Leaving him with just the shotgun, the dog, and a third swing would kill him. There. Marauders could be killed by the crucible, but if you aren't smart about it, it'll cost you all 3 charges.
it would be kinda cool if id made that killing a marauder with it would play a little animation with both of them fighting with their crucibles (can the marauder's axe be called a crucible?) Until the Slayer breaks his shield and just decapitates him
@@LuckClover1 I kinda do want the chainsaw to not have limited fuel. Which is in the last game but has a cooldown in the current only recharging the first bar. But for The Crucible it would be nice to have a similar thing applied like the Chainsaw.
I think it would be cooler if you could use the Crucible on him during his vulnerability period. Think about it, he tries to strike you with his axe, you pull out the Crucible and do the sickest parry and destroy this guy. Big missed opportunity for a cool animation right here
i think a cool mechanic would be a little sword fight and finish him like his axe blocks your sword 2 times but you catch him in the third swing i also think it would be cool if he had a chance like 50/50 he parries the 3 swings and pushes you back, just to keep marauder semi-challenging yet vulnerable to the crucible
imo it would be perfect if it only worked during a stagger or "green eyes" state, and not all the time. From a gameplay perspective it would still reward with the kill because you consider the marauder's attack and used a very expensive ammo type. From a lore perspective his shield should be able to block the crucible because they're made out of the same energy.
I remember in the earlier trailers that Doom Slayer was ready to throw down with the Marauder with the Chainsaw and I think that would have been the most metal thing to happen in Doom.
I think it wouldve been a cool feature if you could use the crucible but the marauder could parry/counter the attack to keep it balanced while making it a challenge. My headcanon was that the Doomslayer wanted a challenge
...honestly i wish the crucible had more flashier animations similarly to how glory kills have different animations to encourage players to experiment with it. I mean the berserk you get twice in the entire game but the entire demon roster has unique animations for it, even the dlc ones (the only exception being spirits because _of course_ )
I think this mod is perfectly fair! The crucible only gets 3 charges and most levels don't have extra charges to give you. Why aren't we allowed to use it on the most annoying enemy in the game?
My ideal way for crucible on the marauder would be one charge breaks the shield, the second kills him. He is really not supposed to be a boss you can just shove out of your way, so making it expensive for him makes sense design wise. But i know you cant really code the shield break, im just commenting an idea. Still, nice work.
It makes more sense for the marauders to use their shield against bullets. and would also be another way for the players to use more energy based weapons to get around that shield.

I wonder if the new mod support would actually allow us to do that specifically , If someone can confirm if the new mod support allows such AI detection I would love to hear it.
I think that the reasson for we can kill the Marauder with the crucible in Vanilla Game, despite that you can just do it when Is in the stagger state, Is bc if you want to overkill him from the rage xdxd

I think there should’ve been a healthy medium. You should be able to fight toe to toe against the marauder with the crucible, with timed hits and careful spacing. Or course that would require the crucible to be reworked to not have a one hit ammo system though
marauders have always felt to me like they put the fun on pause until dealt with. like they work decently well as "mini-bosses" but just halt the flow of any normal fight. this mod doesn't exactly fix that but it does feel better that they can't just somehow turn on their shield for one specific weapon while stunned
Maybe ID could of made a mechanic.where if you finished a marauder with the crucible instead of a glory kill. It would become a huge piñata. Or drop a bfg shot maybe a bit OP but your beating a marauder and then wasting a crucible.
I can see why they removed it, though maybe they should have added a parry animation when you try using the crucible on a marauder, which perhaps could stagger them for a brief moment

Would’ve been Cool if Using your crucible against them requires 3 Charge and you enter like a Parry/short Duel against him killing him in the process, doing this with only 2 could drop he’s shield down making him vulnerable and with one He would just outright block it but damaging him a bit in the process.
people crying about how u cant use the big guns against him dont get the appeal of a challenge. after having beat the game on nightmare extra life mode and beaten two marauders at the same time he still gets me in combination with other enemies. its a perfect enemy
Is there a mod that actually lets you swing marauders axe around? You can use it against him if you glory kill from the right but i want to use it on other demons

i don't understand. The marauder was supposed to be a really tough enemy, and if we were speaking about him honestly, we'd admit he wasn't difficult enough for most players. i get how this mod could be fun, but essentially silences an enemy that i was hoping for a 6 hour showdown from.
Ah, both versions are bummers, to be honest. The game looks like it's cheating for the marauder when the crucible doesn't work. But letting the crucible work just trivializes the most threatening enemy in the game (and narrative). Coolest option would be a specialized interaction. Maybe he blocks it with his shield, but then the crucible disables the shield temporarily. Then maybe a second crucible charge kills him. Or second attempt gets blocked by axe, and now axe is disabled and a third crucible charge kills him. Draining several charges on him somehow would be the way, I think.
Can you nerf it little? For it wouldn't looks like a cheating. Let crucible works in greenlight timing only (also on stuns, of course) & costs all 3 charges. Also let chainsaw works same: greenlight or stuns, costs all 3 fuels.
Started playing doom eternal this week , killed every marauder with 0 issues ( altho on hurt me plenty then on ultra violence, still have to try nightmare). I dont see any problem for insta killing him when he is staggered. Arch vile is the only guy i use crucible on and even then i forget i have it most of the time, same with bfg.
I know this is a hot take, but I really dislike the Marauder and I think the game would be more fun without it. I think the gimmick is painful and tedious. Same goes for the Blood Makyr. I know some people enjoy them, and more power to them. I’m not saying my opinion is “right.”That said, the charges for the super weapons are scarce enough that the people who enjoy fighting them the old-fashioned way are going to save them for something else anyway. Making any non-boss enemy completely impervious to every weapon in the game unless you play along with their gimmick is completely unreasonable. I love this game, and these enemies don’t ruin it for me, but they do suck all the fun out of it when I do have to contend with them.
I think its not good for the game mechanics because its very easy to beat marauder with that mod, its just my opinion, marauder dont have any sense, thats why you need to wait the right moment to take him down also marauder have the best enemy design in Doom Eternal, not good combat but he looks great
I think it's intentional. Not just because the marauders are supposed to be scary, but also because they use crucible technology very similar to the slayer's sword. It's quite possible that the crucible shield was specifically designed to be able to withstand attacks potentially equal to the power of the crucible weapons if not even more devastating attacks

If the crucible can kill a titan, it can CERTAINLY kill a marauder. Good job.
Side note: i think they should only be able to be crucible killed if theyre stunned, otherwise its too easy.
I think the Marauder is supposed to be built different. Just because a Titan is huge doesn't mean that smaller demons can't be stronger.

This is all I wanted from eternal. Giving me 3 super weapons and having none of them work on the Marauder was just being obtuse.
Bfg can one shot him. Just shoot him first normally stun then bfg
BFG one-shots them if you can get it past his shield

Not a bad suggestion. It would give more value to the unmaker. And would only effect end game and slayer key hunters anyway.
The plasmagun ghostbuster mode to stun then and then pile drive em.

A balance would have been allowing when stunned but not in green state or normal.

I haven't played doom eternal since it came out, since when did the marauder get staggered like a cartoon character who ran into a wall?
Ever since the release of The Ancient Gods Part 2 DLC
To show you've staggered it, Doom Games do some cartoony stuff
in order to reduce the cartoon you have to actually download a mod that removed the birds and the stars effect

Here’s how you fix it: use one charge to break the shield, disabling Crucible for a 15 to 30 seconds before you can go for the kill with Crucible.

Personal headcanon - the slayer has both respect for the marauders as former sentinerls, and wants to humiliate them the normal way
Wish I could have had this on console. Marauders were probably second only to falling off the map in ending ultra nightmare runs.
Kinda wish the mod would actually make the slayer clash his Crucible with the Marauder's axe only to overpower the demon and cut him up afterwards.
Even with this change, game journalists would not be able to fight him still...

I think there should’ve been a healthy medium. You should be able to fight toe to toe against the marauder with the crucible, with timed hits and careful spacing. Or course that would require the crucible to be reworked to not have a one hit ammo system though
marauders have always felt to me like they put the fun on pause until dealt with. like they work decently well as "mini-bosses" but just halt the flow of any normal fight. this mod doesn't exactly fix that but it does feel better that they can't just somehow turn on their shield for one specific weapon while stunned
They should have 2 animations, either he blocks the crucible when his shield is up, or when his eyes flash green, then it works normally
Maybe ID could of made a mechanic.where if you finished a marauder with the crucible instead of a glory kill. It would become a huge piñata. Or drop a bfg shot maybe a bit OP but your beating a marauder and then wasting a crucible.
I can see why they removed it, though maybe they should have added a parry animation when you try using the crucible on a marauder, which perhaps could stagger them for a brief moment
Imagine a sword fight with a Marauder
You can sort of delete them with a well timed BFG upon stagger. Useful in the dual marauder fights

Would’ve been Cool if Using your crucible against them requires 3 Charge and you enter like a Parry/short Duel against him killing him in the process, doing this with only 2 could drop he’s shield down making him vulnerable and with one He would just outright block it but damaging him a bit in the process.
people crying about how u cant use the big guns against him dont get the appeal of a challenge. after having beat the game on nightmare extra life mode and beaten two marauders at the same time he still gets me in combination with other enemies. its a perfect enemy

The marauder was supposed to be a really tough enemy, and if we were speaking about him honestly, we'd admit he wasn't difficult enough for most players.

That would work, but the axe is fairly weaker than the Crucible Blade

Ah, both versions are bummers, to be honest. The game looks like it's cheating for the marauder when the crucible doesn't work. But letting the crucible work just trivializes the most threatening enemy in the game (and narrative).
Coolest option would be a specialized interaction. Maybe he blocks it with his shield, but then the crucible disables the shield temporarily. Then maybe a second crucible charge kills him. Or second attempt gets blocked by axe, and now axe is disabled and a third crucible charge kills him.
Draining several charges on him somehow would be the way, I think.

Can you nerf it little? For it wouldn't looks like a cheating. Let crucible works in greenlight timing only (also on stuns, of course) & costs all 3 charges. Also let chainsaw works same: greenlight or stuns, costs all 3 fuels.

Started playing doom eternal this week , killed every marauder with 0 issues ( altho on hurt me plenty then on ultra violence, still have to try nightmare). I dont see any problem for insta killing him when he is staggered. Arch vile is the only guy i use crucible on and even then i forget i have it most of the time, same with bfg.

I know this is a hot take, but I really dislike the Marauder and I think the game would be more fun without it. I think the gimmick is painful and tedious. Same goes for the Blood Makyr.
I know some people enjoy them, and more power to them. I’m not saying my opinion is “right.”That said, the charges for the super weapons are scarce enough that the people who enjoy fighting them the old-fashioned way are going to save them for something else anyway.
Making any non-boss enemy completely impervious to every weapon in the game unless you play along with their gimmick is completely unreasonable. I love this game, and these enemies don’t ruin it for me, but they do suck all the fun out of it when I do have to contend with them.
I think its not good for the game mechanics because its very easy to beat marauder with that mod, its just my opinion, marauder dont have any sense, thats why you need to wait the right moment to take him down also marauder have the best enemy design in Doom Eternal, not good combat but he looks great

I think it's intentional. Not just because the marauders are supposed to be scary, but also because they use crucible technology very similar to the slayer's sword. It's quite possible that the crucible shield was specifically designed to be able to withstand attacks potentially equal to the power of the crucible weapons if not even more devastating attacks
