Viltrumites can live for thousands of years. And remember viltrumite dna takes over a lot so the baby will live a lot longer than thraxans. One thing I liked about this episode is it showed Nolan and Debbie’s similar journeys. Both of them were going to un alive themselves. And mark actually realized how his father felt with seeing how they view life spans

In the comics after he hugs his dad Mark starts weeping uncontrollably and *BEGS* for Nolan to come back to Earth and to Debbie so they can “go back to the way things were”. It felt completely out of character and really did a disservice to Mark.
They also showed things that weren’t in the comics, like how exactly Nolan actually came into contact with the Thraxans, and how he felt such guilt and remorse for what he did the he nearly killed himself by falling into a black hole. Just like The Last Of Us this show is staying faithful when it had to and deviating when they need to.
This show is better than the comics because Robert Kirkman is essentially getting a do over for all of the things he either wishes he wrote differently or cut altogether.

23:18 I mean, the Teen Team's base that Eve was crashing the night and Killcanon broke into was on that bridge that's why their fight was on the bridge cause the fight originated there. It's not like Eve could just tell him that "Hey, let's not fight here and go fight at a more secluded area where there's no people around". They're in the middle of a city. No matter where they fight there's always gonna be people around who're gonna get caught in the cross fire.

@@flame_zzl And you're acting like you didn't read what I just said in my comment. My point was that they're in the middle of a highly populated city. There's people everywhere. How much time and effort and how far would she have to take him to find a secure and safe place to fight?
In that situation and the fact that Eve's frustrated and really itching for a fight, it's much quicker and easier to take him out right there at that moment rather than putting him in a bubble and fly him around to look for a far secluded place where there's no people then fight him.
And those bubbles don't last forever, you know. It drains a lot of her energy to maintain it.

  • @arlibrarian
    @arlibrarian 4 месяца назад +6

Something I want to point out: The show changed Nolan’s stated motive for becoming Monarch and taking a new wife. In the comics he says that he did so to try and make up for his failure on earth, betting on the extremely small chance that just maybe they’ll spare earth and him if he gives them a new planet and has a new kid (having a kid is actually important to the mission). He doesn’t actually know his bug son is “inferior” until after his birth. He does come to care for the Thraxans and his new wife just as he did on earth though. YMMV on whether Nolan starting over initially because he was hoping to save earth, his family and himself, or here because he needed a reason to live and it “felt right” despite how it does put the Thraxans in danger makes Nolan look better or worse. Either way, I find his character arc very interesting, it’s a lot more than just “Evil Superman.”

The kid thing is fanon- I get why bc of [redacted comic spoiler] but there is zero point in the comics where it is explicitly stated to be part of his mission. This and last ep even go out of their way to point out how surprised the other Viltrumites are that Nolan did have kids.

Viltrumites live for thousands of years. Even if half thraxan, and that lessoned his lifespan proportionally, he would live for thousands of years too. There is a character in this show that lived during the time of the Viltrum civil war and he was a white haired old man even then. That was around a thousand years prior. That's right before Nolan was born. And that character still looks the same in present day. They age slower the older they get. I'm not even sure there is any confirmation of a Viltrumite ever dying of old age. If Nolan is at oldest equivalent to a 50 year old human after 1000 years and the white haired character in question was like a 70 year old when Nolan was born and hasn't aged at all... I mean, if the aging keeps slowing I have to wonder if they are functionally immortal.

And, just like humans, some Viltrumites show their age differently. Nolan has gray hairs, but a certain other Vitrumite that is several hundred years older than Nolan has no gray hair. @hippoqueen6840 4 месяца назад

It comes from the perspective that he is an alien and he viewed humanity wrongly. (and also that this is a fantasy world that is a lot more dangerous. Nolans devastation of Chicago could be compared to an event like 9/11, but in our world 9/11 only happened once. In this world, there are literally Kaiju attacks every year or so.)
It's why they chose to introduce us to bug people that only live for a year. viltrumites live for over 10k years. That's a 100:1 ratio for the lifespan of a viltrumite to a human. And comparing the lifespans of humans to ants, it's also about a 100:1 ratio.
It would be morally wrong for a human to destroy an ant colony, but it isn't an unforgivable sin for a human to do that, and humans are capable of so much worse. So the writers introduce us to a race of people that are equivalent to ants. You and I may personally agree that Thraxan lives have value, but you can't deny that there are many humans who would unflinchingly kill Thraxans for fun or for benefit, if they really existed.
It's easy to think that Omni-Man thinks and feels like a human, because he looks identical to one, but this episode makes it clear that he is not. This episode also shows us that viltrumite depravity goes so much deeper than Nolan killing thousands of humans, they're willing to genocide entire planets at the slightest hint of opposition. So Nolan's actions were nowhere near the most evil when it comes to his species, he wrongly viewed humans the same way that humans viewed ants, and he's willing to atone for his mistakes.
Obviously human characters in the show won't be quick to forgive him, if at all (and they have every right to). But from the perspective of a viewer, he is capable of being redeemed.
Sorry for the long reply, I just had to get this out, I love writing and I love this show lol.

It's crazy how good writing can make you feel bad for the worst characters.
