I’ve got the genuine tool kit that came from Schaeffler. I’d say the kit you have there has got everything that’s in the expensive o.e. kit. I’ve seen a few different looking self adjusting clutches. My policy now is to just use the tool for every clutch I do, it can’t do any harm even if it’s not an SAC. Top info as usual Dave 👍

yeah Russell, Schaeffler do suggest to use the tool on all clutches.

Dave I find all your videos interesting because you seem to cover niche areas of interest which have little coverage elsewhere. I have fitted a couple of LUK self adjusting clutches (yellow spring) over last 3/4 years. I did as much research as possible first although there is not a lot of info out there. If I bought the tool I might as well have just paid to have the job done for me. I nipped up the pressure plate bolts just 1/4 turn at a time in a criss cross pattern and constantly checked by eye as far as I reasonably could for any misalignment. It took 15 minutes or so but each car now as several thousand miles on with no issues at all. Keep the videos coming, they have some hidden gems of help and advice.

They just keep dreaming shit up to complicate the world. 😂 Nice explanation Dave. Honestly I've never heard of this in my limited experience. Although I have seen guys removing the preloading disc/ring on replacement fittings. (Now I know what it was). Poppy's driving is getting better 👍

yeah ian, not a new concept by any means and has advantages for the user not so much for the installer. One thing is the self adjust takes up the wear on the clutch plate friction material so the user cannot feel the wear so no warning of failure. I had one come in with clutch appears fine one day and the next day no clutch. My alfa has an SAC and it is '06 model year.

Nice walk through Dave, would you believe I actually don’t have a pre load tool & have never used one. You have just given me the kick in the bottom to purchase one 😉👍👍

Hi dave. Good job on what looks to be awkward clutch change. I recently changed clutch kit on xj cheeokee jeep . No where in Ireland or uk had or could get kit for this type jeep. Main dealer said 1month waiting time and 1000 euro. Evently got one from bulgaria
