I just completed this job and a drain pump. This video walked me right through it. Washer is on its second load now since repair. happy DIY guy. I found the parts for less on another site, but kudos to Repair Clinic for the videos.
Awesome video. I was about to buy another $550 washing machine then saw this vid. $20 part and boom. I’m back to normal.
Excellent information. Thanks
Have a bless day's
Thank you for this video. You saved me $. My machine would not spin. Problem was the nut fell off the splutch.
We're happy to help!
My washer was struggling to get through a cycle and would hang when it shout spin so at the advice of another repair clinic video I replace the the actuator and it worked like a dream! Now I'm working on the next issue which is the loud noise (sounds like a jet engine taking off) so at the advice of this video I can't wait to replace the splutch.... these videos are tremendous! thank you!
Gary Cut If it is loud and you have this style washer than the drive shaft and bearing is likely worn out and requires replacement. www.repairclinic.com?TSLID=1773
***** well... I replaced the splutch assembly and belt on my machine and the noise when the washer is doing a spin went from a 10 (rocket blast off) to an 8 (airplane take off)... I suppose I would say at best it is slightly less noisy. Any other suggestion for quieting this washer? I do love the videos from repair clinic as I have now replaced the water pump, splutch, belt and red thing that may be called the actuator? Another thing I have noticed is something dirty is coming out of somewhere the the machine is running. I see greasy stuff on the plastic protective cover protecting the belt but I guess by replacing the splutch the greasy stuff coming out will stop?
Gary Cut Noise like that is probably coming from the transmission assembly. Enter your model number into our website to get pricing and availability. www.repairclinic.com?TLSID=1773
@@garycut6952 Hello, sir. If there is oil coming out and covering the plastic protective, it's highly probable that the transmission had gone bad and may not be worth fixing it (a new washer could be more convenient).
Thanks, guys. Just saved me 250 bucks. Easy repair.
You're welcome!

I would suggest trying out the repair help section of our website. If you enter your model number there, you'll have access to model and part specific troubleshooting help. If you don't find an answer there, I would recommend looking online for reputable repair blogs and forums. Chances are that your problem has been covered on one of those sites.
Thanks again for this info .
note: i just did one. don’t use any impact guns or grease. you don’t have to take the actuator off, you can slip the new parts over it if you want
Ohhh man prepare to have a lot of water coming out once the machine is tilt also taken that bolt out not easy ..a whirlpool tech 25 years 👍🏻
Alright, i have watched several of these videos, and while they are helpful, i keep noticing the absence of a list of visual clues that indicate if the part in question is really worn out or not. This is important information when your washer is exhibing problems that could be linked to several different failures.
+JerryJr65 Typically when a washer is making noise some disassembly is needed to see what is worn.
I agree. I am replacing the splutch on mine, and the new part looks identical to the old part. I cannot find any visual clues to tell me if I am on the right path until I right the machine and see if it makes the noises again.
@@bgpautomotive I agree with this. I haven't seen any wearing in the teeth or anything.
@@aerlial360 I actually had to have a technician come out. My washer needed a new computer, perhaps because I did not ground myself while changing the transmission or actuator.
Just a side note. The belt should be somewhat difficult to get on. If it's as easy to slip on as it is in this video, then the belt is stretched and should be replaced.
I have this washer, it is less than 2 years old.. The spin cycle does not work. I bought a new splutch before taking the old one apart. I just took the old one it and it looks fine. Not worn or damaged in any way. How do I troubleshoot the shift actuator -vs- the transmission? Should the smaller inner shaft drive anything when I turn it? When I turn that smaller inside shaft it spins freely.
If you can get to the splutch assembly it's fine to lean the washer against the wall.
Are you holding onto the drive pulley?
You just have to remove the nut holding the pulley in place.
What it the nut still spins while you hold the pulley? There is no resistance on the nut while holding the pulley. Can't get the nut to loosen.
Same here...🤦♀️
Is there a specific torque the nut needs to be when putting it back on?
Do you need to put grease on the sprockets?
The rod is spinning with the nut so obviously the pulley is severely wallered out so how do I get the nut off with no way to hold the rod still
Oh I like the video
We own a KENMORE 3.8 Top Load High Efficiency Washer (Series 500). The entire cycle runs properly except for a loud metallic grinding noise when the wash plate is agitating. Is this a splutch problem or does another part need adjusting/replacement? Thank you!

***** I replaced the W10721967 Drive Cam Assembly (why is it called a "splutch"?). The original Drive Belt is still functional but I'd like to buy a spare. Could you please provide me with the part number? The Washer is a Model 25102 (02625102000P). Thanks!
wtw8040dw2 won't spin out, it moves a little than it stops... hopefully replacing the actuator and the splutch kit will help. if you have any other suggestions PLEASE let me know!! I'll keep y'all posted
What about my washer, it has a DD motor with a rotor and stator?
Buen video
Cabrio WTW5700XW0 recently has become very loud. The whole machine really shakes during spin cycle Wife says spinning way faster than before. Maybe just her impression? Also says sometimes the closes are still very wet after the spin cycle ends. Ending prematurely? Could this also be a clutch/transmission issue? Thank you. You guys have the best appliance repair videos out there.
+Rob Williams (scorpio61) Balance issues are likely cause by a bad suspension rod. www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Suspension-Rod/W10780051/4248270?TLSID=1773 If the washer is way off balance the control may prevent it from ever entering the highest spin speed leaving the clothes wet.
+RepairClinic.com thanks. is there any way to verify that they are bad? any diagnostic codes it might generate or test I can run?
How do I get the small motor pulley off?
Thanks
Is any grease needed on the splutch?
sorry... probably should have included the model number wtw495oxwo... this seems to be the obvious replacement part - thanks!
Gary Cut It looks like the spin bearing and shaft is all part of the transmission assembly. www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Transmission-Assembly/W10324649/1877233?TLSID=1773
Do you have to lay the washer on its front? I don't have a lot of room in the area where the washer is and was planning on leaning it back against the wall.
One question - how do I get the drive pulley nut off if the rod spins with the nut?
I'm having that same problem today. How did you solve it?
Question: I'm trying to get the nut off of the drive pulley but the whole thing spins. How can I lock up the assembly to remove the nut? Thanks
@@repairclinic I should have mentioned the pulley is already loose. My whole problem started, I think, with the nut backing off a little bit. Now the pulley wobbles. I'm not sure if the pulley has a keyway to hold the shaft and broke or if it just slips on. Either way that nut is frozen where it is.
I have a washer
like this
but when
I put at wash
is sound like
Frick in noise
in the cam kit
or I don't not
if is the transmission
help me please
The transmission is just a couple of gears so I don’t think that is the problem. I suspect you may have worn gears on the splutch. You should probably replace the spluch assembly first and see if that fixes the problem. There are not a lot of other moving parts on this machine that would make noise in the wash cycle.
I have a Maytag barvoes 2016,I checked clutch gears look ok, assembled,in spring cycle it makes a grinding noise ,real loud, what is causing problem, doesn't make this noise only in spin cycle,I removed agitator, found coins under it,got all dimes out,put back together, still makes grinding noise,I need more information, please ,thank you Ron
ronmilligan54@yahoo.com
My washer Roper only fills and agitates somewhat...and drains. Purchased the splutch kit and purchased the same shift actuator brand new same model for this washer. Then calibrated it. I am having the same issue. When I calibrate it and test to drain spin. It will drain but it will not spin. It attempts to spin. But the spin was like that last time, and I am still hearing grinding. What can be the problem here?????????
Check the wiring at the harness
thanks... I checked cost on the transmission assembly and its a little too steep for a washer I don't like... Was wondering if the drum mounting hub might help with noise? I'm willing to tinker in the $30 range lol... What exactly does the Drum Mounting Hub
Item # 1877235 fix? my drum definitely spins. Is there a way to reduce vibration? The machine does vibrate when spinning... thanks!
Gary Cut We still suspect a transmission issue and not something else.
A question, is the plastic pully a serpentine pully that holds belt on with drive pully? or not
+Charlie Brown We believe the answer to your question is no. The belts on these washers are stretchy and the belt guard helps prevent it from coming off.
If you enter your model number into our website it will display all of the parts we have available that our compatible with your washer.
I have a Kenmore HE Top Loading washer model #110.21302010 2-3 yo that is not agitating or spinning. I have so far replaced the lid switch hoping that might fix it, but no joy. Upon further inspection, the splutch and belt checked out good. The motor turns the drum 1/4 turn during the sensing part of a cycle but does not spin or agitate, washer fills and drains fine. I'm also signed up for your blog waiting for approval. Any ideas? Thanks for your time.
If the motor is running, but not engaging the tub to spin or the agitator, the splutch is bad. If the motor isn’t running, the motor is either bad or not getting power to it. You should also check the motor capacitor to make sure it is good. There is no easy way to figure out what exactly the problem is . We recommend that you consult the tech sheet in the unit and follow the troubleshooting guide and get the diagnostic codes to help figure out the problem.
my washing machine makes noise when wash cicle sounds like agitator is rubbing something .
well... I think I'm coming to the end on this washer (wtw495oxwo) but... I've replaced the actuating unit, water pump, splutch assembly and belt after the spin cycle became fritzy.
Following the replacement of the actuating unit everything was great for about 3 weeks. Now I simply can not get the load to spin out. The spin makes a noise and I do believe the internal drum moves a little then stops and unlocks the latch and sits there. I usually move the load around then restart and the same happens again. I've recalabrated the machine thinking something must be off and this has not helped. I'm wondering if there is something related to the drum that may have gone. There is a fair amount of play with the drum but it moves easily and does appear to be moving to some degree.
Any suggestions?
Gary Cut We maintain the position that the transmission is bad.
i have model @ wtw5700xwo and when trying to take the nut off the pulley the agitator is spinning. i am holding the pulley while trying to loosen. my bolt is stuck at the end and i can't get it off. any suggestions
Since the pulley is directly attached to the agitator the agitator will move with the pulley the only way to get the nut loose is to hold the pulley with a rag or hit the wrench with a hammer. The hammer blows will usually be enough to loosen the nut to remove it.
What year did Whirlpool switch to this design?
2010
the nut holding the drive pulley on my whirlpool top loader will not come off. i hold the pulley and the nut with the shaft just turns. how can i get it to come off?
colleen brigham
You can try striking the wrench sharply with a hammer to brake it loose after that it should come off easily. The other thing you could do is have someone open the lid and hold the tub while you turn the nut. Thanks for the question. Hope this helps.
How do u diagnose a defective splutch assembly
If the machine is not changing between agitate and spin, the problem is most likely in the splutch or shift actuator. Remove the splutch assembly to see if there is any damage to it.
Thanks
Ricardo smith You're welcome.
@@repairclinic - Seems like same issue with my machine. It washes (center part spins) but drum doesn't rotate for drying.
I need help....bad. I reokaced the accuater. The splutch looks fine. But i just noticed that the gear/drive that the splutch sits on does not move freely. Somebody please help. Im in the middle of this shit as i speak
What if the drive pulley doesn’t turn?
Bad motor
ok I replaced the door latch switch and the splotch assembly and it does not move period doess.t even fill now...what next?
+mrmike1ish We would suspect a problem with the control board if the washer does not advance through any cycles.
or the crap transmission as it can barely spin?
+mrmike1ish get a speed Queen no questions asked expensive but will last you
Absolute garbage of machines, So are the Cabrios. This is the future...Junk! And i am a technician that daily explains to people it is what it is.
I concur.
+Russell Larsen So what brand or model would you suggest?
Speed Queen. There basic and pricey but built on the same line as there commercial machines. Motors and Transmissions have 15 year warranty.
I suggest traveling backwards through time to the late 1980's and buying a Whirlpool design 2000 washer.
Nance Steadi direct drive models just that.
HI MY MACHINE IS MAKING A LOUD BANGING NOISE WHEN RINSING WHAT COULD BE THE PROBLEM
Aaron Brebnor If it is really noisy during the spin cycle like metal on metal than the transmission might be defective.
Suspension rods
How many times you gotta tell em to hold the pully at the same time?
Holding the pulley does nothing.
My washing machine spin cycle works when it wants to. It sometimes spins for a little while then it will stop but continue to make the noise. Depending on which position I have the setting on, the washing machine will spin for a short period of time. What could be the issue? Is this the control board?
Having the same issue.I am doing a diagnostic test to see if it shows anything. Never buying thees again
I got the same POS. Had it 2 yrs and it quit spinning the water out. At first, sometimes it would and sometimes it would not. Then it got to be all the time. New $25 shift actuator and recalibration and now it works fine (for probably a couple of years, maybe). You can get these for $299 and up but unless you can and don't mind working on them, don't buy these new Whirlpool's. If you can still find one of the Speed Queens with the mechanical timer, that is the one to buy. It's going to cost 2-3 times as much but is a MUCH better washing machine.
Junk Yard It got fixed by replacing the actuator. Yes the speed queen is the next washing machine
ok so this is happening to my machine. When i goto remove the nut the whole bolt moves with the nut. This is while holding the pulley. Its like there is nothing holding the bolt past the pulley. Please help me!!! I dont know what to do.
+Jaime Matulka We hold the pulley while removing the bolt.
+RepairClinic.com i was. i even had someone else hold it. Its like the bolt and nut and welded and when i turn the nut the bolt moves with it and the pulley stays in place. Like its stripped somewhere. I cant even hold the bolt to get the nut off because there is no where to grab. Its messed up and i dont know what to do but cut the bolt off. If i did that is the bolt replacable?

Same problem here it feels like the bolt is loose somewhere
Try to loosen it with an electric or air impact wrench and hope for the best. Lefty loosey.
how to remove agitator for model no. wksr2100t9ww washer
+Mike Thornton On GE washer model wksr2100t9ww the agitator pulls straight up off the plastic drive bell with a hard tug.
My Whirlpool Cabrio washer (model #wtw5640xw3) won't agitate. We have gone through all of the diagnostic modes and don't receive any error. Can you tell me what part to replace? The belt looks fine.
+Sarah Robertson If the washer motor is running, but it does not agitate we would suspect a problem with the splutch. www.repairclinic.com/PartDetail/Clutch/W10721967/3319979?TLSID=1773
+RepairClinic.com Thanks! It is the cabrio washer that isn't the direct driver, but has a transmission. Is that the right part for this type of washer?
I can't seem to remove the nut from the pulley.. It's like the bolt is fused on..What can I do to loosen the nut? Thanks :)
Try putting some penetrating oil on it and letting it soak in for several minutes. Have a helper hold the pulley while you then try to loosen the bolt.
This unit sucks ,the old direct drive model is the best.

This is the same washer. I replace the Splutch assembly and grear case and now this is what it is doing. Any advice?
